One of the unique features of Popo Agie Campground is the availability of yurt rentals, offering a comfortable and alternative camping experience. One reviewer who stayed in Yurt #2 in July for two nights shared a positive experience, noting ample room for three adults with a double bunk and a fold-down day bed. The inclusion of a table within the yurt provided a practical space for food storage and preparation. Outside, guests in the yurts can enjoy the convenience of a large (8 to 10 person) picnic table for outdoor dining and a deck for relaxing and taking in the surroundings. This yurt option caters to those seeking a more comfortable and semi-permanent shelter while still enjoying the camping atmosphere.
The campground's location along the Popo Agie River offers a significant natural attraction. A notable feature is a cable bridge that stretches across the river, providing direct access to scenic hiking trails that wind through the mountainside, meadows, and alongside the river. This easy access to a variety of hiking experiences, right from the campground, is a major draw for outdoor enthusiasts looking for "camping near me" with built-in opportunities for exploration and enjoying nature walks.
Evenings at Popo Agie Campground seem to be a special experience, with reviewers highlighting the joy of sitting around a campfire and gazing up at the night sky filled with stars. The clear Wyoming skies offer exceptional stargazing opportunities, allowing campers to connect with the vastness of the universe. The calming and relaxing sound of the river's roar is also mentioned as a soothing backdrop, particularly conducive to a good night's sleep. This immersive natural environment enhances the overall appeal for those seeking a peaceful and rejuvenating "camping near me" experience.
While the overall experience at Popo Agie Campground is highly positive, one reviewer noted that the roads within the campground are rather narrow, which could pose a challenge for maneuvering trailers longer than 27 feet. Backing into spaces and turning around might also be difficult for larger vehicles. This is important information for RV owners searching for "camping near me"; those with larger trailers should be aware of these potential limitations and possibly inquire about site suitability when making reservations. Despite this logistical consideration, the reviewer still considered it an overall great place and expressed an intention to return.
The combination of unique yurt accommodations and traditional campsites suggests that Popo Agie Campground caters to a variety of camping preferences. Whether you prefer the comfort and convenience of a yurt or the more traditional experience of tent or RV camping (within the size limitations), this campground offers options to suit different needs. The easy access to hiking trails via the cable bridge further enhances its appeal for active outdoor enthusiasts.
The proximity to Lander is another significant advantage, providing campers with convenient access to local amenities, supplies, and attractions. Lander itself is a charming town with a rich history and serves as a gateway to numerous outdoor adventures in the Wind River region. It would be advisable to contact the campground directly to inquire about the availability of these additional facilities to ensure they meet your specific needs when planning your "camping near me" trip.
The mention of enjoying eats and drinks around the campfire suggests that campfires are permitted (subject to local regulations), enhancing the traditional camping experience. The availability of a picnic table at the yurt further indicates that campsites, whether traditional or yurt-based, are equipped with basic conveniences for outdoor living. The focus on the natural beauty and recreational opportunities, coupled with the positive feedback from visitors, positions Popo Agie Campground as a highly desirable option for local users seeking an exceptional "camping near me" experience in the Lander area.

The easy access to scenic hiking trails via a cable bridge over the Popo Agie River, coupled with the opportunity for exceptional stargazing and the calming sounds of the river, creates a memorable natural retreat. Popo Agie Campground Reviews
We stayed in Yurt #2 in July for two nights. We had plenty of room for three adults with the double bunk and fold down day bed. The table served as our food storage and prepping area. We had an 8 to 10 person picnic table outside we used for our main eating area and sat out on the deck as well. There is a cable bridge that stretches across the river that leads you over to some scenic hiking trails that wind through the mountainside, meadows and along the river. We enjoyed sitting around the campfire gazing up at the night time sky filled with stars while enjoying our eats & drinks. The roar of the river was calming & relaxing at bedtime and put you to sleep.
Jan 31, 2024 · GramAbsolutely gorgeous campground. Amazing views. Close to Lander. The roads within the campground are rather narrow, and it would be difficult to maneuver a trailer longer than 27ft. Backing into spaces and turning around is an added difficulty. Overall great place. Will return.
Jul 05, 2023 · Garrett ZimmerStayed in Yurt #4. It was a little pricey at $140 a night. However the place was amazing. Plenty of room for our group of 11. Big deck overlooking the popo agie river. There was a fire ban (charcoal and wood) you cannot cook in the yurt. So remember to bring a propane grill. My only complaint would be that the smell of the nearby bathrooms was a nuance.Overall it was an awesome place to take the family. I would definitely return.
Aug 06, 2021 · KatI can’t say enough great things about this amazing hidden gem!! Site 23 was situated a little ways from our parking spot.To the left across a small bridge. It was right next to the creek, which made a pleasant noise. Augie was our camp host and was incredibly friendly and generous with his time. There’s free firewood, only asking for donations. Look forward to staying here in the future.
Aug 04, 2022 · Rachel MWe loved the two mile Nature Hike! Lots of wild flowers and a breath taking rushing river. The yurts in the camping area also look like a lot of fun!
