North Star Resort of Leech Lake Introduce
For local residents seeking "camping near me" in a more secluded setting on the expansive Leech Lake in Minnesota, North Star Resort, located at 584 Northstar Dr NE, Federal Dam, MN 56641, USA, presents an interesting option. Situated on the far northeastern side of Leech Lake, near the Federal Dam site, this resort appears to offer a quieter experience away from more central areas of the lake. However, information gathered from customer reviews provides a nuanced perspective on its current environment, services, and features.
One reviewer, referencing a satellite view on Google Maps, suggests the presence of a "boat harbor with many boat slips" that was reportedly installed some time after a review posted ten years prior. This could indicate potential for boating and access to Leech Lake directly from the resort. Leech Lake is renowned for its excellent fishing opportunities, making a resort with boat access a significant draw for anglers searching for "camping near me" with convenient lake access.
However, a more recent review offers a contrasting perspective, providing historical context and a current assessment of the resort. This reviewer, whose great grandparents owned North Star from approximately 1955 to 1967, notes that the resort has evolved over time. While acknowledging that "the Lake does not change and it is great for fishing," they indicate that "North Star has become more of an RV camp and homestead for the current owner's family." This suggests a shift in focus from a traditional resort with extensive amenities to a more RV-centric campground with a strong family presence.
Contrary to the satellite view observation, this recent reviewer explicitly states, "There is no Harbor for boats." This discrepancy highlights the importance of seeking up-to-date information directly from the resort. If the more recent review is accurate, local users specifically looking for a resort with a boat harbor as part of their "camping near me" experience may need to consider other options on Leech Lake.
The recent review further elaborates on the environment and accessibility of the resort. While the secluded location near the Federal Dam might appeal to those seeking a quieter setting, the reviewer points out limitations regarding beach access. They mention that "if you want to walk the beach, you can't go far" due to a "barrier up so no one can get very far" that was reportedly put in place by the owner's family. This could be a significant consideration for local users who value leisurely walks along the shoreline as part of their "camping near me" experience.
In terms of walking and exploring the surroundings, the reviewer notes that "the only place to walk is the 2.5 mile narrow road." While this provides an option for a stroll, it may not offer the same natural immersion as dedicated hiking trails or extensive beach access. For local users prioritizing hiking or extensive shoreline exploration when choosing their "camping near me" location, North Star Resort might not fully meet these expectations based on this recent feedback.
Despite these limitations, the recent review reiterates the positive aspect of fishing, stating, "If you are just into fishing, it's great." This aligns with Leech Lake's reputation as a prime fishing destination. For local anglers seeking "camping near me" with a focus on fishing opportunities, North Star Resort's location on Leech Lake could still be a significant advantage, even if other amenities are more limited.
Based on the available reviews, here's a summary of the potential environment, services, and features of North Star Resort of Leech Lake for local users considering it for "camping near me":
- Secluded Location: Situated on the far northeastern side of Leech Lake, near the Federal Dam, offering a potentially quieter environment.
- Focus on RV Camping: The resort appears to have transitioned towards primarily accommodating RVs, possibly with fewer options for traditional tent camping. Local users with RVs might find this appealing.
- Excellent Fishing Opportunities: Leech Lake is known for its great fishing, and the resort's location provides direct access to the lake.
- Limited Beach Access: A barrier reportedly restricts extensive beach walking for guests.
- Limited Walking/Hiking Options: The primary walking area seems to be a 2.5-mile narrow road, with limited off-road trails or extensive natural areas for exploration directly from the resort.
- Uncertain Boat Harbor Status: While satellite imagery suggested a new harbor, a recent review explicitly states there is no harbor for boats. Local users requiring boat harbor facilities should verify this directly with the resort.
- Strong Family Presence: The resort is described as also being a homestead for the current owner's family, which could influence the overall atmosphere and available services.
Given the conflicting information regarding the boat harbor and the evolving nature of the resort as described in the reviews, it is crucial for local users considering North Star Resort of Leech Lake for their "camping near me" needs to contact the resort directly at (218) 654-3330 or +1 218-654-3330 for the most up-to-date information. Key questions to ask might include:
- Camping Options: What types of campsites are available (RV, tent)? What are the hookup options and site amenities?
- Boat Access: Is there a boat harbor or ramp available for guests? What are the associated fees or regulations?
- Beach Access: What is the extent of beach access for guests? Are there any restrictions?
- Walking/Hiking Trails: Are there any dedicated walking or hiking trails on or near the property?
- Amenities: What other amenities are available for guests (restrooms, showers, laundry, recreational facilities, etc.)?
- Pricing and Reservations: What are the camping fees? What is the reservation process and cancellation policy?
The provided information does not include any specific promotional offers. However, the potential for a secluded location on the renowned Leech Lake, coupled with a focus on fishing and RV camping, could be appealing to certain segments of the local user base seeking "camping near me." The quieter setting away from more crowded areas might be a significant draw for those prioritizing peace and tranquility.
In conclusion, North Star Resort of Leech Lake in Federal Dam, Minnesota, presents a mixed picture for local users searching for "camping near me." While its secluded location on Leech Lake and potential for excellent fishing are attractive, concerns regarding limited beach access, walking options, and the uncertain status of a boat harbor warrant direct inquiry with the resort. The apparent shift towards an RV-centric campground with a strong family presence should also be considered by potential visitors. For those primarily interested in fishing and a quieter RV camping experience on Leech Lake, North Star Resort might be a suitable option, provided that current amenities and access align with their needs.

North Star Resort of Leech Lake Reviews
It appears on the satellite view Google map that a boat harbor with many boat slips has been installed since the review posted 10 years ago. This resort is definitely in a secluded area of Leech Lake on the far NE side, near the Federal Damsite.
Dec 29, 2023 · Robert ChudekMy Great Grandparents, Ame and Skeet Miller owned Noth Star from about 1955 to 1967. Grandpa's brother Warren lived there for some time as well. There is no Harbor for boats. If you a just imto fishing, its great. If you want to walk the beach, you can't go far. The owner's family put a barrier up so no one gan get very far. Jun 12, 2013 · Stacy SimpsonI was fortunate to grow up going to this resort, camping for a weekend, family reunions that took over the entire grounds. Swimming, fishing, roasting marshmallows at the campfire and so much more. Wonderful place, fantastic owners/managers!!
