Oak Embers Campground Introduce
For local users in Rhode Island searching for "camping near me," Oak Embers Campground, located at 219 Escoheag Hill Rd, West Greenwich, RI 02817, USA, presents itself as a potential option. Based on the available reviews, the campground offers a mix of positive aspects alongside some noteworthy concerns that prospective campers should be aware of. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on the feedback from real customers.
One reviewer highlighted several positive features, including a "nice big pool" and "lots of scheduled activities for the whole family," suggesting that Oak Embers Campground strives to be a family-friendly destination with recreational opportunities. The same reviewer also noted that "facilities and staff were great otherwise," indicating that, in some aspects, the campground provides a satisfactory experience.
However, this reviewer also raised a significant safety concern regarding some of the tent sites, mentioning the presence of "large, dead standing trees (widow makers)." They expressed reluctance to camp under such a potential hazard but felt they had no other options available at the time. This is a critical point for tent campers to consider.
Another reviewer, who stayed as a seasonal camper, provided a more comprehensive but ultimately negative assessment. They noted that "most staff were extremely friendly," which aligns with the other review's positive comment about the staff. However, this reviewer found the owners to be "not very friendly at all" and reported that "there was always a problem."
Furthermore, the seasonal camper raised serious concerns about the maintenance and hygiene of the campground. They mentioned that the campground "goes through staff often," which they believe contributes to times when the "bathrooms are filthy." Even more concerning is their personal observation of "sewage being let out into road and into the sewer drain." Based on these issues, this reviewer explicitly stated, "I do not recommend this place," despite acknowledging that "the scenery is truly amazing."
Environment and Location:
One of the reviewers described the scenery as "truly amazing," suggesting that Oak Embers Campground is situated in a visually appealing natural environment. West Greenwich, Rhode Island, is known for its rural landscapes and wooded areas, so campers might expect a setting that offers natural beauty. However, the specific details of the environment, such as the types of trees, proximity to water bodies, or hiking trails, are not elaborated upon in the provided reviews, aside from the mention of potentially hazardous dead trees in some tent sites.
Services and Amenities:
The reviews provide some insight into the services and amenities offered at Oak Embers Campground. The mention of a "nice big pool" indicates a significant recreational amenity, particularly appealing during warmer months. The reference to "lots of scheduled activities for the whole family" suggests that the campground aims to provide entertainment and engagement for campers of all ages. This could include organized games, crafts, or other events.
The fact that there are "tent sites" implies that the campground accommodates tent campers, and the concern about dead standing trees specifically relates to these areas. The seasonal camper's comments about "bathrooms" suggest the presence of restroom facilities, although their cleanliness appears to be inconsistent. The mention of "sewage being let out" raises serious questions about the campground's waste management practices.
While the first reviewer mentioned "facilities and staff were great otherwise," this positive sentiment is counterbalanced by the second reviewer's negative experiences with the owners and the maintenance of the facilities. This discrepancy highlights the importance of considering all available feedback.
Features and Highlights:
- Swimming Pool: A "nice big pool" is available for campers.
- Scheduled Activities: The campground offers "lots of scheduled activities for the whole family."
- Friendly Staff (mostly): Many staff members are reported to be "extremely friendly."
- Amazing Scenery: The natural surroundings are described as "truly amazing."
However, potential campers should also be aware of the following concerns raised in the reviews:
- Hazardous Tent Sites: Some tent sites have "large, dead standing trees (widow makers)."
- Unfriendly Owners (reportedly): The owners were described as "not very friendly at all."
- Inconsistent Bathroom Cleanliness: Bathrooms can be "filthy" at times, possibly due to staff turnover.
- Sewage Disposal Concerns: There was a report of "sewage being let out into road and into the sewer drain."
Promotional Information:
Oak Embers Campground appears to offer some attractive features for those seeking "camping near me" in West Greenwich, RI, such as a swimming pool and organized family activities, set within what one reviewer described as "amazing scenery." The friendly demeanor of many staff members is also a potential draw.
However, prospective local users must also consider the significant concerns raised by another camper, including potential safety hazards at some tent sites, issues with the friendliness of the owners, inconsistent cleanliness of the bathrooms, and a serious report regarding sewage disposal practices. These are factors that could significantly impact the camping experience and should not be overlooked.
Given the conflicting feedback, it would be prudent for local users considering Oak Embers Campground to weigh the potential positives (recreational amenities, scenery, some friendly staff) against the reported negatives (safety hazards, owner interactions, hygiene concerns). It might be beneficial to seek more recent reviews or contact the campground directly at (401) 397-4042 or +1 401-397-4042 to inquire about the current conditions and address any concerns raised in the existing reviews.
In summary, Oak Embers Campground offers a location with potentially beautiful scenery and some family-friendly amenities. However, the reviews also highlight important issues related to safety, owner interactions, and the maintenance and hygiene of the facilities that prospective campers should carefully consider before making a decision about their "camping near me" experience.

Oak Embers Campground Reviews
Many of the tent sites have large, dead standing trees (widow makers). I normally would not make camp under such a threat but there were no other options available. The facilities and staff were great otherwise. Nice big pool and lots of scheduled activities for the whole family.
Aug 15, 2022 · Joshua WagnerStayed here as a seasonal camper- most staff were extremely friendly! But the owners were not very friendly at all. There was always a problem. Besides that, the campground goes through staff often, so there are times when the bathrooms are filthy and I have personally seen sewage being let out into road and into the sewer drain. I do not recommend this place, although the scenery is truly amazing.

Nov 24, 2019 · Peter DeBellisIt was a great place to be but idk if there's any employees that actually care it's kind of sad. Pool was kind of gross no one takes care or it the guests did, you're not supposed to park without a pass or risk being towed but they have no workers to give you said pass. Also they lock the bathrooms and forget to open them back up but the other permanent guests there were great and it's in the woods which is also good
