This campground distinguishes itself by offering a no-frills, convenient, and trust-based camping experience, primarily catering to RV travelers and those seeking a simple and quiet place to stay. Based on the available customer reviews, Old Cranks prioritizes ease of access and essential hookups over extensive amenities, operating on an honor system for payment.
The environment at Old Cranks RV Park & Campground is described as "quiet," suggesting a peaceful setting where campers can expect a relaxed atmosphere. While the reviews do not elaborate extensively on the natural surroundings, the mention of a "convenient place to camp" implies accessibility and a functional layout. The focus appears to be on providing a practical stopover rather than an immersive nature retreat with scenic views or extensive recreational areas. For local users seeking a straightforward and uncomplicated camping option within the "camping near me" category, the quiet environment of Old Cranks could be appealing.
The services offered at Old Cranks RV Park & Campground are intentionally basic, focusing on the essentials needed for a comfortable and convenient stay, particularly for RVs. The campground provides "easy, pull in sites" which suggests hassle-free parking for RVs of various sizes. Crucially, each site is equipped with water and sewer hookups, catering to the fundamental needs of RV travelers. Additionally, the availability of 50/30 amp electrical hookups is mentioned, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of RV power requirements. Notably absent are amenities such as a check-in/check-out process, visitor fees, a pool, a playground, or organized parties. This minimalist approach emphasizes functionality and ease of use.
The defining feature of Old Cranks RV Park & Campground is its operation based on "trust and the honor system" for payment. This unique approach eliminates the need for a formal check-in or check-out procedure. Campers simply pull into a site and presumably make their payment based on posted rates, trusting that visitors will adhere to the system. This feature underscores the campground's emphasis on simplicity and convenience. The absence of visitor fees is also noteworthy, potentially making it a more economical option for those traveling with occasional guests.
The lack of amenities such as a pool or playground might be a consideration for families with children or those seeking recreational facilities within the campground itself. However, for RVers needing a reliable place with essential hookups or individuals looking for a quiet and uncomplicated overnight stop, the absence of these frills might be seen as a benefit, contributing to the peaceful atmosphere and potentially lower overall costs. The focus is clearly on providing the necessary infrastructure for a comfortable stay without the added expenses or potential noise associated with more amenity-rich campgrounds.
Promotional information for Old Cranks RV Park & Campground is not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. Given its operational model based on the honor system and the absence of extensive amenities, it is less likely to offer traditional promotions or discounts. The primary draw seems to be its convenience, essential services, and quiet atmosphere, all offered with a high degree of trust and simplicity. Local users interested in staying at Old Cranks should likely contact the provided phone number ((276) 728-6798 or +1 276-728-6798) to inquire about current rates and any specific policies related to the honor system payment.
The reviews consistently highlight the quiet nature and the availability of essential RV hookups (water, sewer, and electricity) as key advantages. For those within the "camping near me" search who prioritize these aspects and appreciate a straightforward, no-nonsense camping experience, Old Cranks RV Park & Campground appears to be a suitable option. The honor system for payment further simplifies the process, offering a level of trust and convenience that is not commonly found in traditional campgrounds or RV parks.

Old Cranks RV Park & Campground Reviews
No check in, no check out, no visitor fee, no pool no playground, no parties. Just a convenient place to camp where trust and the honor system is how you pay! Easy, pull in sites with water and sewer.
Mar 30, 2025 · Cindy TrueQuiet. No amenities other than 50/30amp hookup sewer and water. Great place if you don’t need much!
Apr 04, 2025 · Jordan TrueEasy access, level sites large pull thru sites. We stayed with 40 ft motorhome pulling 16 ft trailer. Nice campground $33 a night. Will definitely stay again.
Jan 30, 2023 · Johanna HoltonWe decided to visit Galax on a whim and to check out the New River Trail. I was drawn to this place because of the museum next door. Figured it would provide a nice diversion. The website seemed a bit finicky on mobile, so I called the listed number and left a message. They returned our call shortly thereafter and described their policies. So we were able to make a reservation for a same day visit on short notice. Rates were very accommodating. Bathhouse was clean but the shower drainage wasn’t level and there was some water into the main floor. The site is in Galax’s “industrial corridor” but overall it was quiet. It could use some shade trees next to the campsites, but the guide was very accommodating where to park for shade. Everyone I met associated with the park and museum were very friendly and helpful. Overall a hidden gem that’s tucked into a spot where you wouldn’t expect to find mobile lodging. Highly recommended. Would hope to visit again.
Aug 30, 2021 · Jared StackGreat location, great price. Had everything we needed. Bathroom and hot shower. Lot was great and right next to a large park which we walked over to. Bathhouse was large and roomy, but a little on the dirty side. Might have been because we were here very early in the season. Slept here 1 night while driving through. Perfect for our needs!
