Parchers Resort

5001 S Lake Rd, Bishop, CA 93514, USA

4.0
We stayed in a paradise cabin. The cabin is small, but has everything we needed. Cooking utensils were provided, the shower had pretty good pressure, linens were high quality and the room enough space for two with ample room for clothesBed was small for two people, one of the lights broke during our stay, the door lock was fiddly and it would have been nice to have a toaster or microwave for food.Otherwise we enjoyed our stay, it was very cozy and the location is convenient for hiking, if the host could provide a few imrovements it would be great for a future stay.Otherwise if you are looking for a base for hiking in bishop canyon, I’d recommend staying in a rental or hotel in bishop given the 30min or less driving time up to either or the two lakes, unless you want the off the grid mountain cabin experience specifically. - Jaro Fletes-Berkowitz

Parchers Resort Introduce

For those seeking a memorable "Camping Near Me" experience that blends rustic charm with essential comforts, Parchers Resort in Bishop, California, stands out as an exceptional choice. Located at 5001 S Lake Rd, Bishop, CA 93514, this resort offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the stunning Eastern Sierra landscape from the comfort of a well-appointed cabin. This detailed introduction will explore the environment, services, features, and promotional aspects of Parchers Resort, providing a comprehensive overview for potential guests.

Environmental Ambiance and Natural Surroundings

Parchers Resort is nestled in the heart of the majestic Bishop Creek Canyon, a truly spectacular natural environment. Situated at an elevation of 9,260 feet in the Inyo National Forest, the resort offers breathtaking mountain vistas and a refreshing alpine atmosphere. Reviews consistently highlight the immediate proximity to the South Fork of Bishop Creek, with some cabins described as being "right on the river." This provides guests with the soothing sounds of flowing water, perfect for a tranquil night's sleep. The area is characterized by evergreen and deciduous forests, creating a vibrant landscape throughout the seasons, especially noted for its stunning fall colors.

The natural environment around Parchers Resort is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. It serves as a gateway to the John Muir Wilderness, with direct access to renowned trailheads like Bishop Pass Trailhead at South Lake. This means guests are surrounded by countless hiking opportunities, from leisurely riverside strolls to challenging climbs leading to pristine alpine lakes and panoramic views. The presence of multiple lakes nearby, including South Lake (just a five-minute drive), Lake Sabrina, and North Lake, emphasizes the abundance of water-based activities.

However, it is important to acknowledge the mountain environment's characteristics. Being at 9,260 feet, the elevation can affect some visitors, and it is advised to consult a physician if sensitive to high altitudes. The weather can be unpredictable, with summer highs averaging in the 70s and lows in the high 40s, and spring/fall experiencing temperatures in the 50s-60s during the day and low 30s at night. Early season and late season snow, as well as summer thunderstorms, are common. Guests should pack accordingly for varying conditions. Furthermore, as with any high Sierra location, wildlife is present, including chipmunks, field mice, marmots, birds, and bears. Guests are advised to be bear aware and take precautions for food storage.

Services and Amenities for a Comfortable Stay

Parchers Resort provides a range of services and amenities designed to enhance the cabin camping experience. The cabins themselves, such as the "paradise cabin" mentioned in reviews, are generally well-equipped. Guests can expect "cooking utensils" to be provided, allowing for self-catering. The showers are noted for having "pretty good pressure," and "linens were high quality," ensuring a comfortable and clean stay. Cabins typically include a private bathroom with a shower and a heater, which is more than enough to keep the room comfortable, even during cooler days.

While some cabins may be "small," they are designed to be cozy and efficient, often with enough space for clothes and basic living. It's important to note that not all cabins have full kitchens; some may offer a kitchenette with a two-top range, sink, and small fridge, while others are "rustic" and may not include a kitchen at all. There are also cabins with one or two bedrooms to accommodate different group sizes. Specific customer feedback highlighted a desire for "a toaster or microwave," which suggests these are not standard in all units, so guests should verify specific cabin amenities when booking. All cabins are provided with sheets, towels, blankets, pillows, organic bar soap, and toilet paper, though shampoo and daily maid service are not included.

Beyond the individual cabins, Parchers Resort offers crucial on-site services that elevate the "Camping Near Me" experience. There is a "store" or "general store" available, which is invaluable for picking up forgotten essentials, snacks, or fishing tackle. The presence of a "restaurant" or "cafe" means guests have the option for prepared meals, offering a convenient alternative to cooking. For fishing enthusiasts, the resort provides "boat rental" services, especially at South Lake, making it easy to access prime fishing spots. They also offer public showers for a fee, which is a welcome amenity for backpackers or those coming off long hikes.

Parchers Resort is notably self-sufficient, operating a hydroelectric generator to produce its own electricity, an environmentally friendly and efficient approach. They are also pet-friendly (dogs only, with a nightly fee and leash requirement), catering to guests who wish to bring their furry companions. Additionally, Parchers Resort offers services beneficial for backpackers, including resupply storage and pickup for thru-hikers on trails like the John Muir Trail (JMT) and Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), complete with a convenient store for package pickup.

Features that Enhance the Mountain Experience

Parchers Resort's most prominent features revolve around its prime location for outdoor recreation. Its convenience "for hiking" is repeatedly emphasized. Guests can enjoy "a beautiful hike along a river that was so accessible, and beautiful," practically right outside their cabin door. The resort serves as a vital base for accessing the extensive trail network of Bishop Canyon, including popular day hikes to Treasure Lakes, Green Lake, Tyee Lakes, and Long Lake, as well as access to the John Muir Trail via Bishop Pass. This makes it an ideal spot for avid hikers and backpackers seeking to explore the Sierra Nevada.

Another key feature is the exceptional "fishing" opportunities. The Bishop Creek Canyon is renowned for its trout fishing, with five lakes and twenty miles of streams, providing ample angling options. South Lake, a short drive away, is a favorite for rainbow, brook, and brown trout, with boat rentals available through Parchers. The mention of "South Lake was just a five minute drive from the resort and the boat rental with Parchers is a must!" underscores this significant draw. Weir Pond, just below South Lake, is also a popular spot for fly fishers. This makes Parchers Resort a dream destination for anglers.

The "off the grid mountain cabin experience" is a significant feature for many guests. While not entirely off-grid due to nearby amenities, the remote feeling and immersion in nature are highly valued. The ability to "open the windows at night to sleep with the sounds of the river flowing" encapsulates this peaceful and authentic mountain experience. The resort's co-op style cabins, described as "housekeeping cabins," offer a blend of self-sufficiency with provided amenities, allowing guests to tailor their stay.

For those searching under "Camping Near Me" specifically for cabins, Parchers Resort presents a comfortable alternative to tent camping, providing a secure and cozy base with heating and a private bathroom, even if the beds are noted as potentially small for two in some cabins. This combination of comfort and access to rugged wilderness truly sets it apart.

Promotional Information and Planning Your Visit

Parchers Resort actively promotes itself as an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts, particularly those interested in hiking and fishing in the Eastern Sierra. The address, 5001 S Lake Rd, Bishop, CA 93514, firmly places it within a well-known recreational hub. The resort's direct phone number, (760) 873-4177 or +1 760-873-4177, is the primary point of contact for reservations and inquiries. They operate seasonally, typically from mid-April to late-November, so it's essential to check their operating dates before planning a trip.

Promotional information highlights the resort's diverse cabin styles, from rustic to deluxe, accommodating various needs and budgets. While the price range varies by cabin type and season, the value is clear for the unique mountain experience. The convenience of having a general store and restaurant on-site is a significant selling point, making it easier for guests to manage their provisions and dining without needing to drive back to Bishop. The ability to rent boats directly from Parchers for use on South Lake adds another layer of convenience and fun for visitors.

Prospective guests should take note of the valuable customer feedback. While generally positive, some suggestions for improvement, such as the inclusion of a toaster or microwave in all units and addressing minor maintenance issues like a fiddly door lock or broken light, indicate areas where guests might want to confirm specific amenities for their chosen cabin. However, the overarching sentiment is one of enjoyment, coziness, and appreciation for the convenient location.

For those considering Parchers Resort as their "Camping Near Me" choice, especially for multi-day hiking or fishing trips, the resort's proximity to South Lake (a major trailhead and fishing spot) and its services for backpackers make it an excellent logistical base. Even for those debating between a mountain cabin and a hotel in Bishop, Parchers offers a distinct "off the grid mountain cabin experience" that a town hotel cannot replicate, making the 30-minute drive a worthwhile trade-off for many. The positive experiences shared by guests, including helpful staff like Destinee, reinforce the resort's commitment to guest satisfaction. Many guests, like those who visited for Memorial Day weekend, express a strong desire to return, a testament to the resort's enduring appeal.
