Situated within the expansive Parmalee Bridge State Forest, this campground provides a gateway to the natural beauty of Oscoda County. While it may not boast extensive amenities, its location and surrounding environment cater to specific types of outdoor enthusiasts.
Environment and Location: Parmalee Bridge State Forest Campground is positioned in a picturesque setting characterized by the typical woodlands of a Michigan State Forest. Expect a landscape dominated by diverse tree species, creating shaded campsites and a natural ambiance. The campground's proximity to the Au Sable River system, as indicated by the review mentioning kayaking from Rainbow Bend Campground, suggests opportunities for water-based activities. The area is likely to attract those who appreciate a more natural and less developed camping environment. Luzerne, the nearest town, offers basic conveniences, with at least one store within walking distance from the campground, providing access to essential supplies.
Services and Amenities: Based on the available information, Parmalee Bridge State Forest Campground appears to be geared towards primitive camping. The review highlighting "primitive camp" suggests that campers should anticipate basic or minimal amenities. This typically includes designated campsites, potentially with fire rings and picnic tables, but likely lacking modern conveniences such as electrical hookups, water spigots at each site, or restroom facilities with showers. Campers should be prepared for a self-sufficient camping experience, bringing their own water, portable toilets if needed, and other necessary supplies.
Features and Activities: The primary features of Parmalee Bridge State Forest Campground revolve around its natural setting and access to outdoor recreation. The proximity to the Au Sable River opens doors for kayaking and potentially other water activities like fishing. The surrounding state forest offers opportunities for hiking and exploring the natural trails. For those seeking a quiet retreat immersed in nature, the campground's location within the state forest provides a sense of seclusion. However, potential campers should note the review mentioning noise from semi-truck traffic on a nearby road, which might detract from the peacefulness some seek.
Important Considerations and Potential Drawbacks: The customer reviews provide valuable insights into the potential experience at Parmalee Bridge State Forest Campground. The positive aspect highlighted is the suitability for primitive camping and its strategic location for activities like kayaking on the Au Sable River. The convenience of a nearby store within walking distance is also a plus for resupply needs. However, a significant drawback mentioned is the "very poor cell service, text messages only." This is crucial information for campers who rely on mobile communication or internet access. Additionally, the review noting considerable noise from semi-truck traffic is a significant factor for those prioritizing a quiet and peaceful camping experience. Potential campers should carefully consider this aspect based on their sensitivity to noise.

Parmalee Bridge State Forest Campground Reviews
Nice place to primitive camp, we set up camp here then launched kayaks from rainbow bend campground and floated down to here. A few stores nearby, one within easy walking distance. Very poor cell service, text messages only.
Sep 19, 2021 · Todd HistedBeautiful place to stop, not so much to camp. Semis driving the road will make you think banshees are coming to get you. Anyone who says it's quiet or peaceful hasn't tried to sleep here.
Nov 09, 2023 · Kiki VonshineBe on the lookout for the ramp there is not much notice of it. Easy ramp to pull out on, racks for the boats and very spacious campgrounds. You could easily set up a hundred and fifty tents in the camping area. The fire rings are nice steel and concrete structures. There was some down wood around for us to burn up. The picnic table bench was a bit rotten and broke on us, but the rest of the table was in good shape. The restrooms were good. Beautiful area but some highway noise.
Aug 17, 2022 · Curtis CastoA lovely State Forest campground! Drinkable water from the well's hand pump (it ran right through my filter, also tasted fine beforehand anyways) and refreshingly not pungent vault toilets were treats after nights of dispersed camping. The only downside is sleeping right next to a reasonably busy county road, so the quiet of the river isn't really accessible
