Perry South Campground

Montgomery Rd, Culver, OR 97734, USA

Nice place but high traffic. There are two camping sections for the campground: upper and lower. The lower is the main one with water access and where everyone wants to camp. I wish I would have stayed in the upper. I was in site 7, and when anyone wanted to come or leave the campground in all hours of the night, the vehicle headlights lite up my tent like daylight and kept waking me up. You could hear and see the traffic coming and going on the main road also. This would not really happen in the upper campground. Won’t make that mistake again. Nice place though for high desert. - Todd Richardson

Looking for "camping near me" in the Culver, Oregon area? Perry South Campground, located on Montgomery Rd, Culver, OR 97734, USA, with contact number (877) 444-6777 or +1 877-444-6777, offers a lakeside camping experience particularly suited for water sports and relaxation. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground is divided into upper and lower sections, each with its own characteristics. While generally considered a "nice place" situated in the "high desert," potential campers should be aware of traffic considerations, especially in the lower campground.

The environment of Perry South Campground is primarily defined by its access to a lake, making it "great for water sports and relaxing." One reviewer noted that it's "pretty much a boat show," indicating the popularity of boating on this part of the lake. The campground is described as "very secluded." A "nice little creek wanders through a lot of the sites," adding to the natural ambiance. While not ideal for hiking or mountain biking, the area offers other natural attractions. Notably, "Bald eagle nesting pairs can be viewed by following the old / now blocked road to the right past the fish cleaning station," providing an opportunity for wildlife observation. The nearby "Metolius balancing rocks" are also recommended as worth checking out for those interested in local geological formations.

In terms of services, the campsites at Perry South are "well appointed with fire pits and a picnic table." However, reviewers noted that the "spots seem to vary greatly in size," which is an important consideration when choosing a site, especially for RVs. There is a "nice boat ramp and dock available," facilitating access to the lake for boating activities. For anglers, it's crucial to know that "a tribal fishing permit is required to fish this portion of the lake." Basic facilities include "vault toilets" that are reported to be "very clean." The campground is also described as "well taken care of," and the "camp hosts were very nice." Importantly for RV users, there is "no dump station for RVs" within the campground itself. However, a dump station is conveniently located in Culver behind the firehouse. Water access at the lower campground is a significant draw, being "where everyone wants to camp."

The features of Perry South Campground are geared towards lakeside recreation and a relaxed atmosphere. The primary feature is the lake access, ideal for various water sports. The presence of fire pits and picnic tables at each site enhances the camping experience. The creek flowing through many sites adds a natural and potentially soothing element. Wildlife viewing opportunities, such as bald eagles and the mentioned owl, are a bonus for nature enthusiasts. The proximity to the Metolius balancing rocks offers a nearby excursion. The availability of a boat ramp and dock caters to boaters. The division into upper and lower campgrounds provides options based on preference for water access versus potential traffic noise. The clean vault toilets and helpful camp hosts contribute to a positive experience.

Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the positive comments about being "great for water sports and relaxing," the beauty of the high desert setting, the well-maintained facilities, and the nice camp hosts serve as indirect endorsements. For any specific promotions, such as off-season rates or deals for longer stays, it would be best to contact the campground directly through the provided phone numbers or the recreation.gov website, as it is a federal campground (indicated by the 877-444-6777 reservation line).

In summary, Perry South Campground in Culver, OR, offers a "nice place" for "camping near me," particularly if you are interested in water sports and a relaxing lakeside setting. Potential campers should be aware of the two distinct camping sections: the lower campground with direct water access, which can experience higher traffic and associated noise (including vehicle headlights at night, as mentioned by a reviewer in site 7), and the upper campground, which might offer a quieter experience away from the main traffic flow. If you have an RV, considering the varying site sizes using Google Maps satellite view before booking is advisable. Remember to obtain a tribal fishing permit if you plan to fish. While there is no on-site RV dump station, one is available in Culver. For a well-maintained campground with friendly hosts and a focus on lake activities, Perry South is worth considering. To get the most suitable campsite for your needs, especially regarding size and proximity to amenities or traffic, it is recommended to check the campground map on recreation.gov or inquire when making a reservation.
