Pickerel Lakeside Campground Introduce
Looking for a tranquil lakeside camping experience in your local area? Pickerel Lakeside Campground, located at 12666 N Woodbridge Ave, Bitely, MI 49309, USA, offers a seemingly peaceful retreat right off M37. For those searching within the 'camping near me' category, this campground boasts a convenient location, lake access, and proximity to local attractions, according to recent visitor feedback.
The environment of Pickerel Lakeside Campground is described by one reviewer as a "very quiet little campground," suggesting a serene atmosphere that could be ideal for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle. Its lakeside location on Pickerel Lake provides the added benefit of water access, including a boat launch, making it suitable for campers who enjoy boating and potentially other water-based activities.
One of the notable features mentioned is the campground's immediate proximity to "The Meat Shack," which is located right behind it. This local eatery is highly praised by a reviewer as having "some of the best smoked meat and fish I've ever had," presenting a convenient and potentially delicious dining option for campers.
Another reviewer found the campground to be "nice and clean," indicating that the upkeep of the grounds is satisfactory. They also mentioned a host named Fred who was "very nice," suggesting a welcoming and helpful staff presence. This positive feedback contributes to the overall appeal of the campground.
However, this same reviewer also shared a less positive experience involving an interaction with a seasonal camper. They recounted an incident where their 80-year-old father was unloading his boat and temporarily pulled up on the bank, at which point a seasonal camper from across their lots (5, 6, and 7) approached and verbally abused him with profanity, while the reviewer's two-year-old child was present. This incident, while seemingly isolated, highlights the importance of respectful interactions among campers and suggests that not all interactions within the campground community may be positive.
Considering the 'camping near me' category, Pickerel Lakeside Campground offers a quiet lakeside setting with the convenience of a boat launch. The cleanliness of the campground and the niceness of the host are also positive aspects. The unique bonus of being right behind a highly-rated meat and fish shack adds to its appeal, offering a local culinary experience within easy reach. However, the reported negative interaction with a seasonal camper serves as a reminder that individual experiences can vary.
Based on the available reviews, Pickerel Lakeside Campground features:
- A "very quiet little campground" environment.
- Lakeside access on Pickerel Lake.
- A boat launch.
- Proximity to M37, offering easy access.
- Location right behind "The Meat Shack," known for excellent smoked meat and fish.
- A "nice and clean" campground.
- A "very nice" host named Fred.
Potential visitors should also be aware of the reported negative interaction with a seasonal camper, although this appears to be an isolated incident.
For local users seeking a quiet camping spot by a lake with boating access, and the added perk of being near a highly-regarded local food vendor, Pickerel Lakeside Campground could be a great option. The positive remarks about cleanliness and the host further enhance its appeal. However, it's always wise to be mindful of the community dynamics in any shared camping environment.

Pickerel Lakeside Campground Reviews
Nice place. Very quiet little campground. Boat launch. Right off M37. Bonus it's right behind The Meat Shack. Some of the best smoked meat and fish I've ever had.
Sep 06, 2024 · Kerry WallaceThe campground was nice and clean. Fred was a very nice host. We were on lots 5, 6 and 7. My 80 yr old father unloaded his boat and pull up on bank temporarily and one of the seasonals that camped across from us came up just throwing the f bomb around and cussing him out. My 2 yr old was standing there also
Jun 26, 2022 · PAULA FOLKEMAI didn't have a stay because the staff made it so unpleasant that I felt uncomfortable staying the night. Their 5 mile an hour speed limit is too low for the standard car and being tracked down to my families campsite to be chastised, even after apologizing, completely soured my evening. Then as I was trying to leave yet another person gave me a hassle because I had to accelerate to get around a corner. Camping is supposed to be relaxing but having staff chastise me twice in 4 hours was just ridiculous. I was afraid to step off the campsite for fear of breaking one of the rules I had no idea about. I went there years ago with my family and it was fun but after this most recent experience I will not be back.
Jun 21, 2020 · Kari ZigtermanWe have been coming here since our boys were young, I think our youngest was 5 when we started coming, he's 26 now. It is a great place to spend with family, very quiet off the road beautiful setting. Your still close to town if you need anything. Jones ice cream is in town and is the best. I highly recommend this place to stay,we love it and will continue to come back.
Jun 28, 2017 · Judy RhodaStayed here last year and had a wonderful time. This year we brought our dogs. Everything changed. The seasonals put a target on our back and we were reprimanded twice within the first couple of hours. Worst experience of camping in my life. The owners and host are great people and the campground is pretty cool. We had a long weekend paid for and left this morning without launching my boat. Oh, and don't park in the wrong spot. The seasonals get very upset. They run the roost. Rules seem to be different for short term campers. We're were told and shown where where dogs could go in the water. It is on a path on the end of the property in the woods to get to it. Dogs can't be on the beach. But, a seasonal camper had their dog down there as we were leaving. I guess rules only apply to some.Update: Talked to Fred Sr. on Monday and he welcomed us back. He refunded our money and we had a very good conversation. Maybe we will have to try it again. Just not sure if I will bring my GSP's.
