Based on recent customer reviews, Pickwick Landing State Park Campground offers a generally positive experience, particularly for those seeking spacious campsites and access to Pickwick Lake. One reviewer enjoying a two-week stay on site 24 described it as "extremely spacious and pretty much private," highlighting the generous size of some campsites. This suggests that campers can expect ample room to set up their equipment and enjoy a degree of seclusion. The availability of electricity and water hookups on some sites, as mentioned by the same reviewer, adds to the convenience for RV campers. A centrally located bathhouse with showers is also provided, catering to the basic hygiene needs of campers.
The environment surrounding Pickwick Landing State Park Campground is a significant draw. Being situated within a state park on the shores of Pickwick Lake, campers can anticipate beautiful lake views and opportunities for water-based activities. The presence of a marina and a boat ramp directly associated with the park indicates easy access for boating, fishing, and other aquatic adventures. Pickwick Lake is known for its scenic beauty and is a popular destination for recreation in the region. The availability of cabins for rent within the park offers an alternative lodging option for those who prefer not to camp in tents or RVs but still wish to enjoy the park's environment and amenities.
However, potential visitors should be aware of some challenges mentioned in the reviews. One recurring issue is the incline of many campsites, which can make leveling campers difficult. One reviewer on site 24 noted a significant incline, requiring their trailer tongue to sit on the ground even without being fully level. Another reviewer on site 13 also mentioned a back-in decline and observed that most sites appeared to be downhill, posing a leveling challenge. If you are camping with an RV, be prepared to potentially encounter uneven terrain and bring appropriate leveling equipment.
Another minor inconvenience mentioned was the unusual placement of the water connection on one site, which was at the door of the camper, making it awkward to use the awning and place a mat. While this seems to be site-specific, it's a reminder that campsite layouts can vary. The positive aspect noted by one reviewer was the quiet atmosphere during their stay and the absence of odor from a nearby pulpwood plant, suggesting that while there might be industrial activity in the vicinity, it did not negatively impact their immediate camping experience.
In terms of services and features, Pickwick Landing State Park Campground appears to offer a range of amenities beyond just campsites. The mention of a primitive campground suggests options for those seeking a more rustic camping experience without hookups. The marina and boat ramp are significant features for those interested in boating and lake access. The availability of cabins provides an alternative lodging choice within the park. Additionally, the presence of an inn and restaurant located just past the marina offers convenient dining options for campers who may not want to cook all their meals at their campsite.
One notable limitation mentioned in the reviews is the lack of extensive trails directly accessible from the campground. One reviewer stated, "Not much for trails," which might be a disappointment for those primarily interested in hiking. While Pickwick Landing State Park itself may offer some trails, they might not be as abundant or directly connected to the campground as some visitors might expect. If hiking is a primary focus of your "camping near me" search, you may want to inquire further about the availability and accessibility of trails within the park.
For promotional purposes, Pickwick Landing State Park Campground can highlight its prime location on Pickwick Lake, offering opportunities for boating, fishing, and enjoying scenic water views. The spaciousness and relative privacy of some campsites, as noted in the reviews, can be a significant draw for campers seeking a comfortable and secluded experience. The availability of both RV sites with hookups and primitive camping caters to a range of camping preferences. The presence of cabins and nearby inn/restaurant provides additional lodging and dining options, making it a versatile destination for various types of travelers.
To attract local users searching for "camping near me," Pickwick Landing State Park Campground should emphasize its accessibility and the variety of recreational activities available, including lake access via the marina and boat ramp. While acknowledging the potential challenges with campsite leveling, highlighting the spaciousness and privacy of many sites, along with the convenience of hookups and bathhouse facilities, can be appealing. Promoting the availability of cabins and the nearby inn and restaurant can also attract a broader range of visitors looking for a lakeside getaway. It would be beneficial for the campground to provide more detailed information online regarding the specific features of each campsite, including their levelness, and to offer information about the trail system within the state park to better cater to hikers.
In conclusion, Pickwick Landing State Park Campground offers a compelling option for those seeking "camping near me" in a beautiful lakeside setting in Tennessee. The spacious campsites, availability of hookups, marina access, and nearby amenities like cabins and a restaurant are significant advantages. However, potential campers should be aware of the reported issues with campsite leveling and the limited trail system directly associated with the campground. By providing transparent information and highlighting its strengths, Pickwick Landing State Park Campground can continue to attract visitors looking for a relaxing and activity-filled lakeside camping experience.

Pickwick Landing State Park Campground Reviews
We have a 2wk stay here, and so far, it's been lovely! We are on site 24, it's extremely spacious and pretty much private. We are sitting on quite the incline. Our tongue is sitting on the ground, and we're still not level. There isn't a host in this part, which is fine with us. We have electricity and water hookup. There's a bath house that is centrally located with showers. There's a primitive campground, marina, boat ramp, and cabins available. I see that there is also an inn and restaurant just past the marina as well. Not much for trails.
Oct 20, 2023 · Jemry MarieWe're in site #13 with a back-in decline. The pad is asphalt what's left of it. We can see that most sites are downhill making it difficult to level a camper. Never had the water connection at the door of the camper, but we made it work. Just awkward trying to put out my mat under the awning. So far it's been pretty quiet. The wind must be blowing away from the campground because we don't smell the pulpwood plant up the road. 🤗
Mar 11, 2024 · Tona MorganWe drove thru the campground for possible future camping there. It's an outdated, not very cared for park. The sites are uneven, breaking apart and very slopey. We will not be considering this stare park. It's a shame that it's a state park and in such disarray.
Apr 29, 2025 · Jeannette RagsdaleReally nice campground nice restrooms good fishing all around nice place beautiful sunset
Oct 11, 2024 · Bean EllisonWell-maintained campsites with plenty of space between. Great beginner level easy to walk trails with unexpected surprises such as a marked cistern, friendly small wildlife, and even a geocache site scattered along the well-marked paths. Clean, heated, bathrooms and showers. Friendly staff who cheerfully went out of their way to see that we were settled in well. Thank you!
