Located in Hardin County, this campground has garnered positive feedback regarding its location, the friendliness of its owners, and its accessibility to the Shiloh National Military Park. While one review notes some areas needing improvement, the overall sentiment suggests a welcoming and practical camping experience.
The environment surrounding Battlefield Campground is notably defined by its immediate proximity to the Shiloh National Military Park. As one reviewer points out, it is located directly across the highway from the battlefield, making it an exceptionally convenient base for those interested in exploring this significant historical site. This prime location offers easy access for individuals, families, and groups, such as Scout Troops, who frequently use the campground as a starting point for their hikes and visits to the park. The surrounding area is likely characterized by the natural landscapes of southwestern Tennessee, offering a blend of wooded areas and open fields typical of the region.
In terms of services, Battlefield Campground appears to provide essential amenities for a comfortable stay. One reviewer explicitly mentions the availability of "hot water" and "showers," indicating that these basic necessities are provided for campers. Another review, while noting the need for repair and upgrading of the bathrooms, still acknowledges their presence. This suggests that while the facilities might be somewhat dated, they are functional. The campground is described as "no frills," implying a focus on basic needs rather than extensive amenities. However, the positive experiences shared by multiple reviewers suggest that these basic services are generally adequate for a pleasant camping experience.
Several features contribute to the positive reputation of Battlefield Campground. Its unparalleled location directly across from the Shiloh National Military Park is a major draw, particularly for those visiting the area for its historical significance. The easy access to the battlefield is repeatedly highlighted as a significant advantage. The friendly and accommodating nature of the owners, Bill and Karen, is another frequently praised feature. Reviewers consistently describe them as "very friendly," "easy to get along with," and willing to go the extra mile to ensure guests have what they need. One instance recounts the owner offering his personal phone to a stranger whose cell service was unavailable, showcasing a remarkable level of hospitality and community spirit. This personal touch from the owners seems to create a welcoming and positive atmosphere at the campground.
The spaciousness of the campsites is also mentioned as a positive feature in one review, suggesting that campers have ample room to set up their tents or park their RVs without feeling cramped. This can significantly enhance the comfort and enjoyment of the camping experience, especially for longer stays or for groups with more equipment. The long-standing relationship with a local Scout Troop, who have been returning to Battlefield Campground annually since 2005 (with the exception of the Covid year), speaks volumes about its suitability for group camping and its consistent positive experiences for returning visitors.
While the majority of the feedback is positive, the one critical review points out the need for repair and upgrading of the bathrooms. This is an important consideration for local users who prioritize modern and well-maintained restroom facilities. However, the reviewer still recommends the campground despite this issue, emphasizing the positive aspects such as the friendly owners and the convenient location. This suggests that for many, the pros of staying at Battlefield Campground outweigh this particular con.

Battlefield Campground Reviews
This is a no frills campground. What you bring is what you have. Bathrooms need repair and upgrading badly. For me, this is the ONLY negative part for this campground. Owners are very friendly and easy to get along with. Right across the highway from the battlefield, easy access for Scout Troops to start their hikes. Definitely recommend this place! Our Troop has been there every year since 2005, except one (Covid).
May 13, 2023 · William RidgewayIf you are visiting the area for the Shiloh experience, or just passing through as we were, this is the place to camp. Clean, spacious and so very close to everything. I stopped at the gas station a quarter mile away because my cell was not working. The owner gave me his phone to do what I needed. Complete stranger, did all he could to help. Says a lot about this community. The campground is perfectly placed. Hot water, showers, everything we could want. We had the pleasure of meeting the owners, Bill and Karen. Very nice people. Bill made sure we had everything we needed, had a good camp spot, and everything was going well. We sat and talked a while with Bill. Great guy. If you get the chance to stay near Shiloh Battlefield, this is where you want to camp. Take the time to talk to Bill and Karen, say hello. We didn't have time to visit the battlefield on this trip, and look forward to coming back.
Jan 10, 2021 · P GThe folks who own the place bent over backwards to help me and my family out. They had really low rates too. I was only minutes away from the entrance to Shiloh Battlefield, and I could see the battlegrounds from my campsite. During the weekend we bought homemade pies, jams, soap, and treats from the local Amish folks who set up a stand on the corner. The showers are hot and the views are wonderful. I plan on staying there again.
Apr 06, 2021 · Patrick SchwankoffI had a great experience staying here this past April for the 160th anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh. The owner, Bill and I chatted for a while after I got my tent setup. He is super friendly and helpful, and he even recommended I visit the history museum down the road. The place is very clean and well-maintained. I highly recommend this campground.
Oct 18, 2022 · Derek KeenEven though it is close to the freeway, I am giving this campground 5 stars due to the gentleman who runs it , cleanliness, and pleasant atmosphere. Our main goal was to find a campsite where we could walk the civil war battlegrounds and this was an awesome spot. Our first night the guy who runs it showed up to introduce himself and offer help if we needed anything. The bathrooms and showers were clean and the battleground walk was great. No complaints and we will be going back again. Also our four dogs had a fun time :) for the history buffs- you'll love the museum down the road.
