Pine lake campground Introduce
For local users in and around Sturbridge, Massachusetts, searching within the "camping near me" category, Pine Lake Campground, located at 30 River Rd, Sturbridge, MA 01566, USA, presents itself as a camping destination. The campground can be contacted by phone at (508) 347-9570 or mobile at +1 508-347-9570. Based on recent customer reviews, it's important for potential local campers to be aware of some significant concerns and policy changes that have impacted the experiences of previous visitors.
One long-term seasonal camper, who has stayed at Pine Lake Campground for four years, expressed considerable disappointment due to a recent policy change regarding trailer drop-offs. Previously, seasonal campers could have their trailers delivered in May and picked up in September without needing a vehicle on-site at all times. However, the new rule mandates that a vehicle must be present on the site in case the trailer needs to be moved. This change has particularly affected retired individuals, including a disabled veteran unable to drive, for whom the campground's proximity and convenience were significant factors in their decision to stay there seasonally.
This same reviewer also mentioned a history of fluctuating rules at the campground, such as changes regarding children in the hot tub and issues with unsupervised children running and diving in the pool. Coupled with the new trailer policy, the reviewer stated they would no longer recommend Pine Lake Campground, especially considering it is perceived as "very expensive for what you get." This suggests that the value proposition of the campground might not align with the cost for some visitors.
Another recent visitor who stayed in one of the cabins echoed the sentiment that Pine Lake Campground is "nice but I wouldn’t call it or pay the price of a resort." They found the amenities to be "regular" for a typical campground, including a pool and a few activities, suggesting that it might not offer the upscale experience that the pricing might imply.
The primary issues for this reviewer, however, stemmed from the cabin accommodations. While they appreciated some "nice tiny details" like complimentary coffee, filters, and toiletries, they felt these were overshadowed by more significant shortcomings. A major point of frustration was the absence of a grill at the cabin. The reviewer noted that the lack of a grill was not mentioned on the campground's website, leading to significant inconvenience upon arrival on a Friday night, disrupting their dinner plans for the weekend.
Furthermore, the reviewer experienced "horrid" WiFi, despite it being advertised. This was particularly problematic during consecutive rainy days when the televisions in the cabins were reportedly locked from streaming services. This lack of entertainment options left children with limited activities after exhausting their own games and outdoor play in the rain, highlighting a potential issue for families during inclement weather.
The most severe criticism from this reviewer was regarding the mattresses in the cabins, which were described as "the hardest worst mattresses I’ve experienced anywhere ever." The discomfort was so significant that the reviewer reported not sleeping through the night for three consecutive nights and stated they would not return unless the mattresses are updated. This feedback strongly suggests a critical issue with the comfort and quality of the cabin accommodations.
Considering the environment of Pine Lake Campground, the name implies a setting near a lake, which could offer scenic views and potential water-related activities. The address on River Road in Sturbridge also suggests proximity to a river, further enhancing the natural surroundings. However, the reviews do not provide specific details about the lake or river access or the overall natural beauty of the campground beyond the potential implied by its name and location.
The services at Pine Lake Campground appear to include seasonal campsite rentals, cabin accommodations, a pool, and some organized activities (though the specifics are not detailed). The presence of a hot tub is also mentioned in the context of changing rules regarding children's access. The on-site provision of small amenities in the cabins, such as coffee, filters, and toiletries, suggests an effort to provide some convenience for cabin guests. However, the lack of grills at the cabins and the poor WiFi are significant service shortcomings highlighted by a reviewer.
The features of Pine Lake Campground include seasonal campsites, cabin rentals, a pool, a hot tub, and some unspecified activities. The potential for a lakeside and riverside environment could be considered a feature, though detailed descriptions are lacking. The small complimentary items in the cabins are a minor feature. Conversely, the absence of grills at the cabins and the unreliable WiFi are notable negative features based on customer feedback.
From a promotional perspective, Pine Lake Campground might emphasize its location in Sturbridge, MA, which is a town known for its historical attractions and New England charm. The presence of a lake and river could be highlighted as offering scenic beauty and potential recreational opportunities. However, the recent customer reviews present significant challenges to any positive promotional messaging. The policy change affecting long-term seasonal campers, the perceived high cost relative to the amenities, the lack of grills in cabins, the poor WiFi, and the uncomfortable mattresses are all serious concerns that potential local users should be aware of.
For local users searching for "camping near me" in Sturbridge, MA, Pine Lake Campground warrants careful consideration based on the recent feedback. While the location might be convenient for some, and the presence of a lake and river could be appealing, the negative reviews raise red flags regarding policy changes affecting seasonal campers, the value for money, the amenities in the cabins (specifically the lack of grills and poor WiFi), and the comfort of the accommodations (particularly the mattresses). These issues could significantly impact the overall camping experience.
In conclusion, while Pine Lake Campground in Sturbridge, MA, might offer a convenient location and potential access to natural surroundings, recent customer reviews highlight several significant drawbacks. Local users considering this campground should be aware of the changes affecting seasonal campers, the perceived high cost for the amenities provided, and the specific issues raised about the cabin accommodations, including the lack of grills, poor WiFi, and uncomfortable mattresses. It is advisable for potential visitors to seek more up-to-date information and potentially inquire directly about these concerns before making a booking decision.

Pine lake campground Reviews
I have camped here for 4 years as a seasonal camper. We have our trailer delivered in May and picked up in September. This year we were told that they will not be allowing this drop off anymore. You know have to have a vehicle on site at all times in case it needs to be moved!I have never heard of this in my life. We are retired and my husband is a disabled veteran and is unable to drive anymore. We like it here as it was right down the street from us and it was very convenient for us and our grandchildren.I guess being a camper there for 4 years means nothing to these people. Every year they change the rules from no kids under 18 in hot tub to then they can go in. No supervision with the kids there only selected few running and diving in the pool.No after this I would not recommend this campground on top of this it’s very expensive for what you get.
Apr 26, 2025 · Diana HamiltonThe campground is nice but I wouldn’t call it or pay the price of a resort. The amenities were regular you get at any campground, pool and a few activities. What really brought the score down for me however was the cabin accommodations. The cabin looks nice enough and there’s some nice tiny details like they had a small pack of coffee and filters and little toiletries, but I would prefer skip all of that for the more important details. To start I have never rented a cabin anywhere that did not come with a grill! It doesn’t say anywhere on the site that there are no grills, so arriving later on a Friday night planning to grill some burgers to find we didn’t have anything to grill them on was very aggravating. It also made the rest of the weekends dinner plans difficult as there was no grill available. While yes a lot of people use camping to leave behind electronics, the WiFi was horrid even thought they advertise it. We had rainy days back to back and the tvs in the cabins have been locked from streaming. So yes after my kids had played every game we brought and played in the rain there was no option to just have them sit and watch a movie while being cooped up.Absolute worst of all, was the mattresses! They were the hardest worst mattresses I’ve experienced anywhere ever. I didn’t sleep through the night 3 nights straight. You could punch your hand down and it just stayed hard and even. Unless or until those mattresses are updated I won’t be going back.
Oct 14, 2024 · Katlyn PostWe recently began our camping adventures this year. As avid cyclists, we appreciate the proximity of the campground to the trail. The campground is generally well-maintained, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. We have enjoyed our previous visits immensely. However, we have noticed a concerning trend of rule enforcement laxity, particularly regarding the hot tub. The hot tub was overcrowded with children, leaving insufficient space for adults. It appeared that parents and children disregarded the posted rules. One of the primary reasons for the return of campers is due to the standards. We are optimistic that they will uphold the high standards..
Sep 15, 2024 · Jeana HolmesGreat campground. All sites are full hookups and usually very level. Back in and done. The pool is great but can be super busy on hot days.Fishing in the lake is average but the fish IN the lake are all 2-3 lbs.The bath houses are immaculate and very spacious. The campground is HUGE. We walk every morning and the perimeter of the campground is almost 2 miles.Just be aware that some site are in the FULL sun all day.We are planning a Rally next year with a lot of friends.
