The things I liked. The staff is friendly and they are always visible on their carts. I noticed that at the last Thousand trails campground that I stayed at. It gives a sense of security and the impression that they care. It’s also in a peaceful area. I do believe this place could be great with a little updating and rule enforcement. The pond was cool. What I didn’t like is. The sites are very small and the campers are on top of each other. My site wasn’t bad but everyone else in my area had no room on their sides. I positioned my camper so when my slide was out it would be about a foot from the line. The campers on my side put their camper in the middle and had no room for the picnic table. The picnic table was right on the line so my slide out was almost even with their picnic table. If I had to check my utility area I had to go around their picnic table on their side. Because of this I probably wouldn’t go back. I have to drive too far and I would be afraid that once there I wouldn’t fit. I know campgrounds need to be profitable just like any other business and that is why the sites are small, so they can fit more in. I am part of the thousands trails membership. I wouldn’t have a problem paying twice the monthly fee for larger site and better kept grounds.Another thing that I didn’t like was many of the seasonal are old and have a lot of junk stored on their lots. It just gives a bad impression of the campground. One of these sites is a water front site and from what I can tell belongs to an employee or at least his family. Put aside the condition and junk on the site, but they have a very aggressive dog. The dog maybe harmless but they leave it tied out side and when anyone with a dog walks by it is barking and trying to get loose. It’s at the end of its lead and knocking things over trying to get at whoever is walking by. My first night there I walked by with my dogs and I could hear him barking and banging off the walls trying to get out. The owners have put a bunch of containers and tarps around the bottom of their camper as skirting and I am sure part of this is to block the sight of the dog. Yesterday a woman was a few sites down and was yelling to the dog to stop and shut up. I have to say it’s not a safe or comfortable feeling walking by their site. I’m a dog lover and I don’t blame the dog. The owners shouldn’t leave him tied out all day and probably shouldn’t keep him there. I would be completely shocked if this is the first time there has been a complaint. Maybe the complaints are staying at the campground and since I believe this dog and camper belong to an employee or his family that it isn’t getting to corporate. I hate leaving bad reviews. I usually just wouldn’t leave one, But as I said I think this could be a great camp ground and that dog is going to be a liability. - Brian Macey

Thousand Trails Sturbridge Introduce

Looking for "camping near me" in the Sturbridge, Massachusetts area? Thousand Trails Sturbridge, located at 19 Mashapaug Rd, Sturbridge, MA 01566, USA, offers a rustic camping experience with a family-friendly atmosphere. You can contact them at (508) 347-7156 or their mobile number +1 508-347-7156 for inquiries. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground has both positive and negative aspects that local users might want to consider.

On the positive side, several reviewers praised the staff. One camper noted that the staff is "friendly" and "always visible on their carts," which creates a sense of security and gives the impression of care. Another reviewer described the staff as "helpful" and "friendly," mentioning they were greeted with an information folder and escorted to their full hook-up RV site. This suggests that the staff at Thousand Trails Sturbridge is generally well-regarded for their helpfulness and visibility within the campground.

The location of Thousand Trails Sturbridge is also appreciated, with one reviewer mentioning it's in a "peaceful area." The presence of a pond was also noted as a positive feature. Furthermore, one review highlighted a "vibrant family atmosphere" with people enjoying their camping experience. This suggests that the campground can be a lively and engaging place, particularly for families looking for a "camping near me" destination with a community feel.

Another positive aspect mentioned was the cleanliness of the "bathrooms/showers." This is an important factor for many campers, and the positive feedback indicates that these facilities are generally well-maintained. The same reviewer also noted that laundry facilities were present, although they were not working at the time of their visit.

However, some significant concerns were raised in other reviews. One camper found the campsites to be "very small," leading to a feeling of being "on top of each other." While their specific site wasn't the worst, they observed that many others in their area had very little space. This lack of space made maneuvering and setting up challenging for some, potentially impacting the overall comfort of the camping experience. Due to this issue, the reviewer stated they would probably not return, especially given the distance they had to travel, fearing they might not fit comfortably.

Another point of dissatisfaction was the condition of some seasonal sites, which were described as "old" with "a lot of junk stored on their lots," giving a "bad impression of the campground." Specifically mentioned was a waterfront site, allegedly belonging to an employee or their family, which was not only cluttered but also had a "very aggressive dog" that was often tied outside. This reviewer recounted feeling unsafe and uncomfortable walking by this site due to the dog's behavior (barking and trying to get loose). They expressed concern about this potentially being a recurring issue that might not be addressed if it involves someone connected to the campground staff.

Considering these mixed reviews, local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh the positive aspects (friendly and visible staff, peaceful location, family atmosphere, clean bathrooms) against the potential drawbacks (small sites, cluttered seasonal areas, and concerns about a possibly aggressive dog on a long-term site). The term "rustic style campground" used by one reviewer might also imply a more basic level of amenities and a less manicured environment compared to more modern campgrounds.

To make an informed decision, local users might want to contact Thousand Trails Sturbridge directly to inquire about:

  • The typical size of their campsites, especially if you have a larger RV or prefer more space.
  • The current condition and upkeep of seasonal sites.
  • Policies regarding pets and any measures in place to ensure the safety and comfort of all guests concerning animal behavior.
  • The status of the laundry facilities.
  • Any specific amenities or activities offered at the campground.

While no specific promotional information was included in the provided reviews, the mention of a "vibrant family atmosphere" and "activities scheduled" suggests that Thousand Trails Sturbridge aims to provide an engaging experience for families. If you are looking for a campground with a community feel and organized activities, this might be appealing.

In summary, Thousand Trails Sturbridge offers a campground with a friendly and visible staff, a peaceful setting, and a family-oriented vibe. The presence of a pond and generally clean bathrooms are also positives. However, potential visitors should be aware of reports regarding small campsite sizes and the condition of some long-term sites, including concerns about a dog. For local users seeking "camping near me," it would be beneficial to gather more current information directly from the campground to determine if it aligns with your expectations and needs.
