Greenhorn Campground Introduce
For those seeking a memorable camping experience and exploring options under "Camping Near Me" in the Grass Valley, California area, Greenhorn Campground presents itself as a popular and often-frequented destination. Located at 15000 Greenhorn Access Rd, Grass Valley, CA 95945, USA, this campground offers a blend of natural beauty, recreational activities, and essential amenities that cater to a wide range of campers, from those seeking lively entertainment to those preferring a more tranquil escape by the water.
Greenhorn Campground is ideally situated by Greenhorn Creek, providing a scenic lakeside environment that serves as the backdrop for most camping activities. The presence of water offers opportunities for boating and enjoying the natural surroundings. Campers who book "lake front sites" are particularly well-positioned to appreciate the immediate access and views of the water. The natural setting means visitors are immersed in an outdoor environment, with trees providing shade and a sense of being away from urban bustle.
However, navigating the campground, especially with larger vehicles like campers, requires some attention. One reviewer noted difficulty backing in their camper due to the road being "lined with boat trailers," indicating that space can be a premium, particularly during peak seasons. Furthermore, a specific warning is issued about a "tree that hangs just over the corner," which unfortunately caused damage to a camper's canopy. These practical considerations highlight the need for careful driving and awareness of surroundings within the campground. Despite these minor navigational challenges, the overall appeal of the lakeside environment remains a strong draw for those looking for "Camping Near Me" with water access.
Greenhorn Campground provides a set of core services that significantly enhance the camping experience, focusing on comfort and convenience. A standout feature, consistently praised by campers, is the quality of the restroom facilities. Reviews highlight that "Showers were nice!" and "Bathrooms are really pretty good," including "flush-able toilets nearby for our tent campers in the family." The availability of hot water in showers is a particular luxury in a campground setting, contributing significantly to guest satisfaction.
The human element of service also receives positive mention. The "lady at the gate was REALLY nice," indicating a welcoming first impression. Furthermore, "Tom, the camp host, does a wonderful job keeping everyone up to date on current lake levels and is very helpful with questions." A dedicated and helpful camp host is an invaluable asset, providing on-site assistance, local knowledge, and ensuring a smoother experience for all campers. While the campground's website was criticized for being "TERRIBLE, outdated, and why is it a bright yellow font??" this feedback pertains to the digital information portal rather than the on-ground services, which appear to be well-managed and appreciated by visitors. The presence of a marina store also implies the availability of basic supplies and potentially boat-related services.
Greenhorn Campground offers a variety of features that cater to different camping preferences. For those seeking a quieter experience, particularly tent campers or those with smaller setups, booking "sites farther away from the marina store" is a suggested strategy. This allows for a more peaceful retreat, away from the potential hubbub of activities. However, for campers who enjoy a more lively atmosphere, being closer to the marina offers significant advantages. The campground occasionally hosts "huge campfire movie night and live music... on the weekends," providing communal entertainment that fosters a fun and engaging environment. This dual nature—offering both tranquility and entertainment—makes Greenhorn a versatile choice for "Camping Near Me" searches.
The campground also clearly defines its "quiet hours from 10pm-8am." While one reviewer noted that the 10 pm start time for quiet hours could be "loose," it indicates an effort to maintain a respectful environment for all campers. The restriction on generator use before 8 am is also mentioned, impacting those who might want to start their day earlier with powered conveniences. The park's longstanding popularity, with campers having visited "for years," highlights its consistent appeal and the strong sense of loyalty it inspires. Its proximity to home for many locals ("grateful to have this place so close to home") further reinforces its accessibility and convenience as a regular camping destination. The availability of lakefront sites is a key feature, allowing campers to directly engage with water activities.
The most effective promotional message for Greenhorn Campground comes from the authentic testimonials of its returning visitors. The consistent sentiment of appreciation, such as "We have been camping here for years" and "We camp several times throughout the summer months and are grateful to have this place so close to home," speaks volumes about the campground's enduring popularity and its ability to provide consistently enjoyable experiences. This strong local following is a testament to its value as a recreational hub for the community and surrounding areas.
For prospective campers, Greenhorn Campground can be reached via phone at (530) 388-0328 or mobile phone at +1 530-388-0328. The address, 15000 Greenhorn Access Rd, Grass Valley, CA 95945, USA, ensures easy navigation to the site. While acknowledging the outdated website, the direct phone contact and the overwhelmingly positive on-site experiences reported by campers provide a reliable basis for considering Greenhorn as a camping destination. The practical tips offered by reviewers—such as being mindful of vehicle size, avoiding the problematic tree, considering site location based on desired quietness versus proximity to entertainment, and understanding quiet hours and generator rules—are invaluable for first-time visitors planning their trip. Overall, Greenhorn Campground offers a robust and enjoyable camping experience, making it a compelling option for anyone searching "Camping Near Me" in the Grass Valley region.

Greenhorn Campground Reviews
The lady at the gate was REALLY nice. Their website is TERRIBLE, outdated, and why is it a bright yellow font?? Couldn't back the camper in as the road was lined with boat trailers. The quiet hours from 10pm-8am, the 10pm was loose, but man, I really wanted to start the generator earlier than 8. Showers were nice! Bathrooms are really pretty good. Be careful when pulling a camper. There's a tree that hangs just over the corner, and it ripped our entire canopy and damaged the whole corner of the camper.
Aug 27, 2024 · Alicia KarrickWe have been camping here for years, we book the lake front sites and enjoy having showers and flush-able toilets nearby for our tent campers in the family. Tom, the camp host does a wonderful job keeping everyone up to date on current lake levels and is very helpful with questions. If you are looking for a more quiet camp experience I would suggest booking sites farther away from the marina store, as they have huge campfire movie night and live music occasionally on the weekends. Personally I like being close to the fun... :)We camp several times throughout the summer months and are grateful to have this place so close to home.
Jul 17, 2024 · Verinia ZamoraVery, very gorgeous lake and surrounding terrain. Huge trees surrounding the other side of the lake, while semi barren lands on the side of the campground so you have space to pitch a tent or have an rv parked. Fire circle, standing fire grill, and picnic bench at every camp ground. We camped at rocky point #2 and had our own entrence to the lake along with pretty decent isolation from the rest of the campers. Only gave it 4 stars because the other campers were very, very loud playing music which they stopped by 9:30, but definitely don’t come here if you want peace and quiet. (We came on a Thursday) also, around $50 for one nights stay for the bare minimum of a camp site is pretty pricey for me. But overall, very nice campsite, lake to swim in, and view.
Jul 21, 2023 · syrusBeautiful lakeside campground with many spots for camping. We made the mistake of driving up on Memorial Day weekend without a reservation, but the incredibly nice campsite hostess squeezed us into spot "Pine and Three Quarters". The site is dog friendly and there is a local malamute that roams this campsite and the other nearby site. He is great and everyone seems to love being visited by him. There is easy access to the lake as a short walk to the shore where you can swim and kayak. There is a large general store on site. Definitely recommended.
Jun 06, 2023 · Jamie BI will not be returning to camp side. Too dry. Our camp side was on a hill. No flat area to set our tents or tables.
