Point Campground

County Road 46, Bend, OR 97701, USA

4.0
It was a bit more crowded than I was hoping for but everyone was really friendly and helpful. We had our dogs off leash as did everyone else and that was fine. The water was perfect for swimming. We also did kayaking. The ground was pretty rocky so bring water shoes and don't plan on getting a good sandy spot unless you get up to the lake waaaaay early. We got there about 11:30 and it was hard to find a spot. Beautiful view of the mountains and incredibly fun to swim and play in the water. 💙 - Jenna Byrne

Looking for a picturesque lakeside camping experience near you in the Bend, Oregon area? Point Campground, located on County Road 46, Bend, OR 97701, USA, offers a charming retreat right on the shores of Elk Lake. Known for its beautiful views of the mountains and perfect waters for swimming and kayaking, this smaller campground provides a friendly atmosphere. However, potential visitors should be aware that it can get crowded, especially later in the day, and the ground tends to be rocky, requiring some preparation for comfort. If you're seeking a scenic spot for water activities and don't mind a potentially busy environment, Point Campground could be an excellent choice for your next camping adventure.

The environment surrounding Point Campground is frequently described as "picturesque" and offering a "beautiful view of the mountains." Situated right on Elk Lake, the campground provides immediate access to the water, which is noted to be "perfect for swimming." The clear and inviting waters also make it ideal for activities like kayaking, allowing campers to explore the lake and enjoy the scenic surroundings from a different perspective. While the overall setting is beautiful, one reviewer pointed out that the ground is "pretty rocky," suggesting that bringing water shoes is advisable for comfort, especially when near the water. Finding a sandy spot for lounging might be challenging unless you arrive very early in the day. The presence of Elk Lake as the central feature of the environment provides opportunities for various water-based recreation and stunning natural scenery, with the backdrop of the mountains enhancing the overall appeal of the location. The smaller size of the campground likely contributes to a more intimate feel, although it can also lead to crowding during popular times.

Point Campground offers basic services and features that cater to a nature-oriented camping experience. While specific details about amenities like restrooms or water sources are limited in the reviews, one reviewer mentioned that the "vault toilet isn't too bad," indicating the presence of at least this type of restroom facility. The fact that the campground is located directly on Elk Lake provides a significant service in terms of lake access for swimming, kayaking, and potentially fishing (though not explicitly mentioned). The friendly and helpful nature of other campers is also highlighted as a positive aspect of the campground atmosphere. One reviewer noted that it was a place where "everyone was really friendly and helpful," and that dogs were often off-leash (although this might be subject to campground rules and should be verified). The availability of parking spots at the campsites is implied, as visitors were able to arrive with their vehicles. However, the review also mentioned the difficulty of finding a good spot if arriving later in the day (around 11:30 AM), suggesting that the number of campsites might be limited relative to its popularity. The small size of the campground, while contributing to its charm, also means that competition for prime spots, especially those with sandy access to the lake, can be high.

The key features of Point Campground revolve around its stunning location on Elk Lake and the recreational opportunities it affords. The beautiful views of the surrounding mountains create a picturesque backdrop for camping. The lake itself is ideal for swimming and kayaking, making it a prime destination for water enthusiasts. The friendly and helpful atmosphere among campers contributes to a positive social environment. The tolerance for off-leash dogs (as reported by one reviewer, though this should be confirmed with campground rules) might be a significant feature for pet owners. However, potential downsides include the rocky ground, which necessitates bringing appropriate footwear, and the tendency for the campground to become crowded, especially on weekends or during peak season. Arriving early is crucial if you are hoping to secure a spot with sandy access to the lake. Despite its small size, the direct lake access and scenic beauty are major draws for those seeking a "camping near me" experience focused on water activities and mountain views.
