Exciting news for prospective campers! According to recent feedback, Port Crescent State Park Campgrounds is undergoing significant renovations that are nearing completion, and the results are described as "INCREDIBLE!!" This suggests that local users can anticipate updated and enhanced facilities, promising an even more comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. While specific details of all the renovations aren't provided, the enthusiasm in the review indicates substantial improvements across the park.
Adding to the allure, the harbor within Port Crescent State Park is also undergoing modernization. The upcoming installation of a new dock is mentioned, with the expectation that it will become "the most modern harbor in the state." This development is particularly exciting for boating enthusiasts and those interested in waterfront activities. While the review doesn't detail specific harbor amenities for campers, the presence of a modern harbor suggests potential opportunities for boating, fishing, and enjoying the scenic waterfront.
The campsites themselves are lauded as possibly "the best public campsites in Michigan." This is high praise indeed and should be a significant draw for local campers seeking quality accommodations. One specific campsite, number 91, is highlighted for its exceptional location, being just steps away from a sandy crescent beach. Imagine the convenience of a short path through the dunes leading directly to the soft sand and inviting waters of Lake Huron. This prime beachfront access is a rare and valuable feature, perfect for families, sunbathers, and anyone who loves to be by the water.
The review emphasizes the popularity of these campsites, advising potential visitors to "Sign up early as spaces go fast." This suggests high demand, particularly for the most desirable locations like those near the beach. Planning ahead and making reservations well in advance is strongly recommended to secure your preferred spot, especially during peak camping seasons and weekends.
In addition to the coveted beachfront sites, the review mentions that other campsites are situated on a water inlet. This offers a different type of waterfront experience, potentially providing opportunities for calmer waters, different views, and perhaps even fishing or small watercraft launching directly from your site. The variety of campsite locations, from beachfront to water inlet, caters to different preferences among campers.

The emphasis on "all" implies a welcoming environment for families, solo travelers, and groups alike.
The reviewer returns to emphasize the exceptional quality of the beach, stating, "Oh, but that beach !" This reiterates the sandy crescent beach as a standout feature of Port Crescent State Park Campgrounds. The combination of soft sand and the proximity to campsites makes it an incredibly appealing amenity for swimming, sunbathing, beach games, and simply enjoying the beauty of Lake Huron.

You might want to ask about the different types of campsites available (e.g., tent-only, RV sites with hookups), the specific amenities offered at each site, pet policies, any specific rules and regulations, and details about accessing the harbor and any associated fees. For those interested in the renovations, inquiring about the completion timeline and the specifics of the upgrades would be beneficial.
Furthermore, it's advisable to ask about the reservation process and any potential fees associated with camping and harbor usage. Given the high demand mentioned in the review, understanding the booking system and securing your reservation well in advance is crucial. Oct 23, 2023 · Candyce AbbattThis seems to be one of the few campsites near Port Austin. It is right on the lake which is absolutely beautiful. That was definitely the best part. Bathrooms were clean. Staff was nice. If you have a dog, this site is very dog friendly. But the campsite is very close to the highway, so you hear it throughout the night rather than the sounds of nature. Also, the camp sites are right on top of each other, so you can hear anything your neighbors do. When we went to the bathroom in the morning to shower, the water wouldn’t get hot. I think they might turn off hot water during quiet hours, but I am not sure. There’s also no grate for the campfire pit which makes cooking over the fire a little inconvenient.
Sep 16, 2023 · Jessica EllemWe liked how close our sites have been to the water. Several sites looked a bit tight. Overall great park. Nice hiking trails, great access to the lake, dark skies park and beaches.
Oct 04, 2020 · Teresa Gilin MellerOne of our favorite State campgrounds! We stayed on site 28 for the week of July 2-8. Campsites are electric only and each is a different size, but site 28 was large and roomy and right across from the water spigot. It was right next to a set of stairs that took you down to the beach. The grounds keepers keep both the campsites and beach area clean and tidy. And all the staff is friendly and helpful. But we especially want to say thank you to Melanie, Emily and Jeannie. These women were the cleaning angels! Between the partyers on the week of the 4th and the swarms of bugs that descended each night on every surface in the bathrooms, these ladies had a huge job to undertake. They diligently cleaned both bathrooms 2-3 times a day to make sure things were as clean as possible for the campers. Thank you SOOO much!We love the camp beach especially because you can walk down to the mouth of the Pinnebog river from the campground. Swimming is great because it stays shallow enough for a while so everyone can enjoy the water. We were able to walk our dogs on the beach and they loved it. The campground is close enough to Port Austin to walk the breakwater and for great food and shopping, especially the farmer's market on Sat. You can also drive into Caseville for more shopping and fishing.
