Red Cliff Campground Introduce
Are you a local user seeking "camping near me" in the Gallatin Gateway, Montana area, particularly if you're planning a visit to the renowned Big Sky Resort? Red Cliff Campground, located at 41120 US-191, Gallatin Gateway, MT 59730, USA, offers a strategically positioned camping option with certain amenities that cater to both RV and tent campers. You can reach them for inquiries at their toll-free number, (877) 646-1012 or their mobile-friendly number, +1 877-646-1012. While specific promotional information isn't detailed in the provided reviews, the insights from past visitors offer a comprehensive understanding of what this campground provides.
The environment of Red Cliff Campground is frequently praised for its natural beauty. Situated alongside a river that flows between the campground and the adjacent highway, the setting is described as "beautiful" and "extra special." The presence of the river not only enhances the scenic appeal but also contributes to a more tranquil atmosphere, with one reviewer noting that the riverfront sites surprisingly experience less road noise despite their proximity to the highway. This unique positioning offers campers the best of both worlds: convenient access and a picturesque natural backdrop.
In terms of services and features, Red Cliff Campground offers essential amenities that are particularly valuable for RV travelers. A significant advantage mentioned is the availability of "electric" hookups, making it a sought-after location for those needing power for their recreational vehicles, especially as it's noted as the "closest place we could find with electric" for visitors of Big Sky Resort. It's important to note, however, that the electrical service is specifically 30 amp. Campers with higher power demands, such as those needing to run multiple air conditioning units simultaneously, may encounter limitations and potentially trip the breaker, even with an adapter. This "no frills" approach focuses on providing basic necessities rather than extensive luxury amenities.
Water is available on-site in the form of "potable water from a pump," which is a crucial service for refilling tanks and general use. However, it's equally important to note that Red Cliff Campground does not offer "water/sewer hook ups" at individual campsites. This means that RVers will need to be self-contained in terms of wastewater and will need to manage their black and grey water tanks accordingly. For waste disposal, the nearest dump stations are approximately 45 minutes away, with options in West Yellowstone (at a cost of $30) and Bozeman (at a free "town pump" location). This distance to dump stations is a factor that potential campers, especially those with RVs, should consider when planning their stay.
The individual campsites at Red Cliff Campground are described as "okay" but with some potential drawbacks. Reviewers mention that the sites "aren’t terribly level" and can be "a little muddy." Campers, particularly those with larger RVs or those sensitive to uneven ground, should be prepared to level their vehicles and potentially deal with muddy conditions, especially after rain. Despite these minor inconveniences, the overall appeal of the location and the available amenities seem to outweigh these issues for many visitors.
A significant positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the quality of the "camp hosts," who are described as "really nice." Friendly and helpful camp hosts can greatly enhance the camping experience, providing assistance, information, and contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. The overall atmosphere of the campground is described as "friendly" and "laid back," suggesting a relaxed and enjoyable environment for campers.
For those specifically visiting Big Sky Resort, Red Cliff Campground is noted as being "the closest you can bring an RV to Big Sky." This proximity makes it an exceptionally convenient basecamp for exploring the resort and the surrounding area, saving travel time and offering a more accessible camping option compared to locations further away.
A valuable "pro tip" shared by a reviewer is that the campground posts information about "open spots for that night each morning on the bulletin board when you pull-in." This suggests a degree of flexibility in securing a site, even if you haven't made a reservation far in advance. It also indicates that checking the bulletin board upon arrival might be worthwhile for those looking to extend their stay or find a last-minute opening.
In summary, Red Cliff Campground near Gallatin Gateway, Montana, offers a convenient and scenic camping option, particularly for those visiting Big Sky Resort and needing electric hookups for their RVs. Its beautiful setting along the river provides a unique and tranquil environment, despite its proximity to the highway. While it offers potable water and 30-amp electrical service, it lacks on-site water and sewer hookups, requiring campers to plan for waste disposal at nearby locations. The campsites are described as adequate but potentially unlevel and muddy. However, the friendly camp hosts and laid-back atmosphere contribute to a positive camping experience. The campground's proximity to Big Sky and the tip about checking the daily bulletin board for availability make it a practical and appealing choice for local users seeking camping in the area.

Red Cliff Campground Reviews
Perfect stop to visit our son who works at Big Sky Resort. Closest place we could find with electric. There is potable water on site but no water/sewer hook ups. Closest dump stations are West Yellowstone ($30) or Bozeman town pump (free). Each is about 45 minutes away.
Aug 12, 2024 · Amy Yokum4.5/5. For the price (~$30), it is 5 stars. But this is a no frills campground. It only includes 30 amp for power. Your adapter will work but you will blow the breaker if you run all of your ACs.The setting is beautiful and the river between you and the highway makes it extra special. The sites along the river are closer to the highway but actually have less road noise. The sites are okay but aren’t terribly level and can be a little muddy. The camp hosts are really nice. It’s a friendly, laid back atmosphere. I believe it is the closest you can bring an RV to Big Sky.Pro tip: They post open spots for that night each morning on the bulletin board when you pull-in. We were able to snag an extra night this way.
Jul 25, 2023 · Sean BuschPerfect campground between Bozeman and Yellowstone. Has 30 amp electric service but no sewer or dump and water only at gate.
Aug 27, 2024 · Michael HughesGorgeous spot to stop and spend the night! The river is super picturesque. Agree with another review about the superb cleanliness of the bathroom also. The campground hosts were amazing. Very friendly and helpful regarding the area and Yellowstone. Would definitely stay again.
Apr 17, 2022 · Amanda ClausenWas the best part of our trip to Big Sky. It's just a roadside picnic area on a mountain stream. Sunshine, green grass, running water. Beware, the bathroom is pioneer.
