As part of the KOA (Kampgrounds of America) network, Red Lodge KOA Journey aims to provide a consistent standard of quality, welcoming service, and a range of amenities for various camping preferences, from cabin stays to RV parking. Its strategic location near the town of Red Lodge and as a potential stop for those visiting the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park further enhances its appeal within the "camping near me" platform category.
The environment at Red Lodge KOA Journey is consistently praised for its pleasant and well-maintained grounds. One reviewer noted the "grounds are well maintained" and highlighted the presence of "plenty of beautiful flower pots," suggesting an effort to create an attractive and welcoming atmosphere. The campground is described as "smaller" but offers sites that are "wide enough not to be on top of your neighbor," with specific sites (32-37) being angled to provide even more space and privacy between RVs. This thoughtful layout contributes to a more comfortable and less crowded camping experience. The surrounding area offers "nice mountain views," allowing guests to appreciate the scenic beauty of the Red Lodge region directly from the campground.
In terms of services and amenities, Red Lodge KOA Journey appears to offer a comprehensive range to cater to different needs. For those seeking cabin accommodations, the "cabin was clean" and equipped with a heater that worked "fantastic," ensuring a comfortable stay even during cooler evenings. The campground also provides "clean bathrooms" with "great pressure and plenty of hot water" in the showers, which are essential for a refreshing experience. Laundry facilities are available, with three washing machines, although one was reported to be out of order, suggesting this might be an area for improvement. Notably, the laundry machines accept both coins and credit cards, adding to the convenience. The campground also has a store "filled with many cute gifts," offering guests the opportunity to purchase souvenirs or essential items. Firewood is sold on-site and is described as "fabulous," being dry and burning well, enhancing the campfire experience.
A significant aspect of Red Lodge KOA Journey is the welcoming and accommodating nature of its staff. Reviewers consistently mention the friendly service, with comments like "The people the work here (or own it) are very welcoming and accommodating" and "the staff were all so nice." This positive interaction with the staff contributes significantly to the overall positive experience of staying at the campground. The quick response times and courteous professionalism further enhance the welcoming atmosphere.
For recreational activities, Red Lodge KOA Journey offers several on-site options. Guests can rent "cool looking bikes" for exploring the campground or perhaps venturing into the surrounding area. There is also a "mining" activity, which could be particularly engaging for families with children. A "jump pad" provides another fun activity for kids to enjoy. For pet owners, the presence of a "nice big dog park" is a significant advantage, offering a dedicated space for dogs to exercise and socialize safely. While a pool was mentioned, it was noted as being empty in late June by one reviewer, which might be a seasonal issue or an area to inquire about when booking.
The location of Red Lodge KOA Journey is also highly convenient. It is situated just a "7 minute drive away" from the "little town" of Red Lodge, providing easy access to local restaurants, shops, and other amenities. This allows guests to enjoy the tranquility of the campground while still having the convenience of a nearby town. Its proximity to the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park also makes it a perfect stop for travelers heading to or from the park, as well as those exploring the scenic Beartooth Highway.
While the majority of the feedback is positive, one reviewer did mention some areas for potential improvement. They noted that the newer bathroom/shower facility near site 32 was very nice but suggested longer shower curtains and a rubber mat outside the shower to prevent slips. They also reported that the bathrooms were "a mess" one evening around 10 pm, with water on the floor, wet countertops, and unclean toilets, suggesting a need for more frequent evening cleaning. The full trash bins were another minor issue mentioned. Addressing these maintenance concerns could further enhance the guest experience.
There is no specific promotional information explicitly mentioned in the reviews, such as discounts for longer stays, off-season rates, or special packages. However, the strong positive reviews and the reputation of the KOA brand itself serve as a form of promotion, highlighting the quality and reliability that guests can expect. Local users interested in potential promotions should check the official KOA website or contact Red Lodge KOA Journey directly.

Red Lodge KOA Journey Reviews
I am so impressed with this campground. The people the work here (or own it) are very welcoming and accommodating. My cabin was clean and everything was so nice and the heater worked fantastic! The bathrooms are clean. The shower had great pressure and plenty of hot water. It was quiet in the evening. The grounds are well maintained. There are also some activities that are available. You can rent these cool looking bikes, you can mine, there’s a jump pad, and a nice big dog park. The little town is only a 7 minute drive away. I went and grabbed pizza for dinner and ate it on my porch swing. If you’re coming out the north east entrance of Yellowstone and need a place to stay before flying out of Billings, this is the perfect location. I highly recommend!
Jul 03, 2024 · Amy SchmidtCampground is smaller but for the most part, very nice. Sites are wide enough not to be on top of your neighbor and sites 32-37 are angled so that the RV isn’t right next to you. The newer bathroom/shower located near site 32 is very nice, however the showers could use a longer curtain and a rubber mat outside the shower so that no one slips. I went in around 10pm one night and I have to say, the bathrooms were a mess. There was water on the floor, countertop was wet with soap, and the back of the toilet was disgusting. Also, the trash was full. Maybe needs a once over in the evening. My other negative comments are that the pool was empty (in late June) and there are only 3 washing machines, one of which was out of order. Think that might be a priority to repair. I did like that the machines took coins or credit card. That said, the staff were all so nice, the store was filled with many cute gifts, and the grounds had plenty of beautiful flower pots. Oh, and if it matters to you, the firewood they sold was fabulous! It was dry and burned nicely.
Jun 24, 2024 · Vickie ClarkThis is a nice little KOA, sites are clean, pretty spacious for a KOA, and the staff were outgoing and friendly. My only complaint about this campground is that not all of the RV sites have a sewer connection and the dump station is located right on the main entry/exit point which makes checking out a little awkward since there is somewhat of a line. Location is pretty good, but beware entering/exiting as the 2 lane highway it is located on has a speed limit of 70MPH, so it can be a little dangerous leaving, especially if your RV is a little larger.
Sep 03, 2024 · Wayne FiskumWe’ve stayed at this campground a couple years ago. It’s a convenient stop near Red Lodge Montana. Huge dog park that our pup enjoyed. Disappointed that there are not more 50 amp full hookups or we would stay longer. (We don’t plan very far ahead so that’s probably our fault.) Clean laundry and shower areas. Friendly and easy check in. We would probably stay again.
Jul 31, 2024 · Jane JacobsWish I could give this place 10 stars! We had such an amazing stay that we came back a few days later to stay again! This is the cleanest KOA, the owners are SO friendly, and there's a creek running through the property to make it that much more charming! My kids voted this our favorite place on our road trip. Can't wait to come back again one day.
