Red Oak Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Russell, PA area? Red Oak Campground, located at 225 Norman Rd, Russell, PA 16345, offers a variety of accommodation options, including cabins and camper trailers, for those looking to get away. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground presents a mixed experience, with notable positives alongside some significant concerns that potential local users should be aware of.
The environment of Red Oak Campground in Russell, PA, appears to be conducive to a pleasant outdoor experience. One reviewer mentioned that "The campground is nicely laid out," suggesting an organized and potentially scenic setting. Russell, PA, is situated in a region known for its natural landscapes, likely offering a wooded or semi-wooded environment for the campground. This could mean opportunities for enjoying the outdoors, with potential for short walks around the campground and a generally peaceful atmosphere. However, the reviews do not provide extensive details about the natural surroundings beyond the layout of the campground itself. Local users seeking "camping near me" in a potentially natural setting might find Red Oak Campground appealing, but should consider the specific accommodation type they choose.
The services at Red Oak Campground seem to include both cabin rentals and camper trailer rentals. Based on the reviews, we can gather the following about their services:
- Cabin rentals: The campground offers cabins with names like Black Bear, Fox, Deer, and Chipmunk. The Black Bear cabin reportedly had issues with bedbugs. Other cabins (Fox, Deer, Chipmunk) were mentioned as potentially fine, with only a few mice noted in those.
- Camper trailer rentals: One reviewer who stayed in a camper trailer was "pleasantly surprised at how clean it was" and even reserved the same trailer for the following year.
- Restroom and shower facilities: These are described as "newly refurbished and kept clean," which is a significant positive aspect highlighted by one of the reviewers.
- Laundry facilities: When faced with the bedbug issue, the camp manager provided free laundry soap and quarters, indicating the presence of laundry facilities.
- Wi-Fi: The campground advertises Wi-Fi, but one reviewer noted that the factual access was problematic. The Wi-Fi was described as not included with the trailer rental (despite being advertised), and the paid service was not secure.
It's important for local users considering "camping near me" at Red Oak Campground to note the discrepancy regarding Wi-Fi and the reported issues with bedbugs in at least one of the cabins (Black Bear). The prompt and helpful response of the camp manager to the bedbug issue is commendable, but the owner's apparent prior knowledge of the problem is concerning.
The features of Red Oak Campground include the variety of accommodation types (cabins and camper trailers), the newly refurbished and clean restrooms and showers, and the presence of laundry facilities. The layout of the campground is also mentioned positively. However, potential features are overshadowed by the significant issue reported in the Black Bear cabin. While other cabins were noted to be better (with only minor mice issues), and the camper trailers were praised for cleanliness, the severe bedbug infestation in one of the rental units is a major feature that cannot be ignored. The advertised Wi-Fi with its reported shortcomings is another feature to consider.
Regarding promotional information for local users seeking "camping near me," it's challenging to provide a straightforward promotion given the serious bedbug issue reported in the Black Bear cabin. Objectively, we can highlight the positive aspects mentioned by one reviewer: the cleanliness of the camper trailer they rented and the newly refurbished and clean restrooms and showers. If local users are considering renting a camper trailer at Red Oak Campground, the positive review regarding cleanliness is encouraging. For those interested in cabins, the review suggests caution specifically regarding the Black Bear cabin, while other cabins might be acceptable with minor issues like mice. Any promotional messaging should transparently address the reported issues and the campground's response. Potential local users should inquire specifically about the current status and any remediation efforts in the cabins, particularly the Black Bear cabin. Contacting the campground directly at (814) 757-8507 or +1 814-757-8507 would be advisable to get the most up-to-date information.
In conclusion, Red Oak Campground near Russell, PA, offers a range of camping accommodations, including cabins and camper trailers. While one reviewer praised the cleanliness of a camper trailer and the campground's restrooms and showers, another reported a severe bedbug infestation in the Black Bear cabin, raising concerns about the overall condition and management's handling of such issues. Local users searching for "camping near me" should be aware of these contrasting experiences. If considering a stay here, it would be prudent to inquire about the specific accommodation they are interested in and the campground's policies on cleanliness and pest control. The positive feedback on the camper trailers and the restrooms is a plus, but the negative experience in the Black Bear cabin warrants significant caution for potential cabin renters. It would be advisable for local users to weigh these points carefully before making a reservation.

Red Oak Campground Reviews
We reserved the Black Bear cabin for 2 nights. When we arrived, everything seemed wonderful. When we laid down to go to bed, we experienced an absolute nightmare when bedbugs started crawling all over us. I was bitten about 15 times and we had to sleep in our car with no bedding because everything was infested and it was midnight when we noticed the bugs. The camp manager was amazing the next morning and provided free laundry soap and quarters to wash and dry everything we had brought (heat from the dryer is what kills bedbugs). They provided other sleeping accommodations promptly. We received a full refund for that first night. However...When the owner came over to approve our request for another place to stay, she made several comments that indicated she knew this was a problem that they had been dealing with for quite some time. I told her the mattresses on the bunks were ripped and we literally saw bed bugs crawling inside the rips and we know all 4 mattresses in that cabin need to be burned and disposed of... I don't know if she will do that, which is why I still feel inclined to leave a review despite receiving compensation. I should have checked the mattresses before making the beds up for the night, but their housekeeping team that knew of this issue should have noticed it was still an ongoing problem before letting us rent it out and sleep in it. Do NOT stay in the Black Bear cabin or you will get infested with bed bugs. Our family in the other cabins (Fox, Deer, Chipmunk) only had a few mice, no bugs to be seen so I think those cabins are fine. I appreciated the prompt response to our issues, but do not entirely trust that the owner will resolve the situation in that cabin the right way for future guests. We will not be back to this campground.
Jul 28, 2024 · Emilee MerkleRed Oak is a campground that my brother in law selected for a family get-together. We stayed in one of the camper trailers and was pleasantly surprised at how clean it was. The main complaint is advertised wifi versus factual access. We selected the trailer for the wifi it said it came with. It didn't and you have to pay for a service that still isn't secure. The campground is nicely laid out and the restrooms and showers are newly refurbished and kept clean. Can't say enough good about the cleanliness. Overall I recommend this campground to anyone wanting to get away. We reserved the same trailer for next year.
Jul 30, 2024 · Deborah Aylor-PolisotoHad a great stay at the rd oak. So close to so many attractions! It's a very quiet and peaceful Campground. Lots to do for children and adults! There is a small store with tasty baked goods and all the necessary items at reasonable prices! All and all a great stay. I will be returning.
May 15, 2024 · How TGreat staff, beautiful camp grounds. The staff are amazing. I go every year and camp there. You can even stay thur winter mths. At least give it a try. Kids love it there. They make breakfast in morning hrs. IAM headed there in a couple weeks and can’t wait to see everyone. They have a fenced in dog area that stays clean.
May 19, 2024 · elzie cantrellWe rented a spot for our mobile home for a couple of weeks and the staff was very helpful and friendly, would stay there again. Nice little dog park to let your dog off leash.
