Robin's Nest Family Campground Introduce
For local users in the Harrod, Ohio area searching for "camping near me," Robin's Nest Family Campground, located at 2370 Napoleon Rd, presents a camping option with a history in the community. Reviews offer contrasting perspectives, with one providing a historical recollection alongside a negative personal experience with the owner, while another describes a recent positive family outing. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on the available feedback, allowing local users to consider these different viewpoints when making their decision.
An Environment with Enduring Features: The Environment
One long-time local resident shared memories of Robin's Nest Family Campground dating back to childhood, recalling "swimming in its murky water" and enjoying the "same water slide that is there now, even 30 years later." This indicates that the campground features at least one enduring recreational amenity – a water slide – which may still be a draw for families. The mention of "murky water" in the past, however, might raise questions about the current water quality of any swimming areas.
The reviewer also described the "stoney drives" within the campground and a specific incident of struggling for traction on a "muddy, stoney, rain soaked stop at an intersection." This suggests that the internal roads or parking areas may have a gravel or stone surface that can become challenging to navigate in wet conditions, potentially leading to issues with traction for vehicles, particularly those that are not four-wheel drive.
In contrast, a more recent review from a parent highlights a positive experience, stating, "...it's plenty of space for them to run around and play..." This suggests that the campground offers open areas suitable for children's activities, which is a significant environmental factor for families with young kids.
The presence of a "park" where children played also indicates that the campground provides dedicated play areas for younger guests, enhancing its appeal as a "Family Campground."
The mention of "sleeping outside in our tent" confirms that tent camping is an option at Robin's Nest Family Campground, suggesting that the environment includes suitable areas for pitching tents.
Overall, the environment appears to offer some enduring recreational features like a water slide and open spaces for children, but potential visitors should be aware of the reported muddy and stoney driving surfaces and consider the past description of "murky water" when assessing the swimming facilities.
Varied Perspectives on Services and Management
One of the most striking aspects of the provided reviews is the stark contrast in experiences with the campground owner. The long-time local resident recounts a negative encounter approximately 20 years ago, where the owner "sternly instruct me that he didn't want to see me there again" following a minor incident with their car on a rainy day. This abrupt and seemingly unwarranted dismissal raises concerns about the owner's temperament and potential interactions with guests. The reviewer's advice to be "mindful of the owner's temperament" serves as a significant caution for prospective visitors.
In contrast, the more recent review from a parent focuses on the positive aspects of their family's experience, with no mention of any issues with the owner or staff. This suggests that the management style or the overall atmosphere may have evolved, or that different visitors may have different interactions.
Regarding other services, the historical review mentions the existence of a water slide, implying some form of water-based recreational amenity. The recent review confirms this with the mention of "swimming," presumably in the same area or another water feature within the campground.
The presence of a "park" indicates a playground area for children, which is a valuable service for families.
The fact that the family "slept outside in our tent" confirms the availability of tent camping sites.
However, specific details about other essential campground services, such as the cleanliness and condition of restrooms and showers, the availability of hookups for RVs (if any), water sources, waste disposal, or other recreational amenities, are not provided in the reviews. Potential visitors will need to seek this information elsewhere.
Enduring Recreation and Potential Management Concerns: Features
A key feature of Robin's Nest Family Campground appears to be the enduring "water slide," which has been a part of the campground for at least 30 years, suggesting a long-standing recreational attraction.
The presence of a "park" or playground area is another feature catering to families with children.
The availability of "plenty of space for them to run around and play" indicates that the campground offers open areas suitable for children's activities.
The option for "sleeping outside in our tent" confirms that tent camping is a viable feature.
However, a significant potential negative feature, based on one detailed personal account, is the unpredictable and potentially unwelcoming temperament of the owner. This past experience serves as a cautionary note for prospective visitors regarding potential interactions with management.
The "murky water" recalled from the past might still be a feature of any swimming areas, which could be a drawback for some visitors.
The "stoney drives" that become muddy in the rain could also be considered a less desirable feature, potentially impacting vehicle access and cleanliness.
The lack of information about other common campground features, such as fire pits, picnic tables, RV hookups, or other recreational facilities, makes it difficult to provide a comprehensive overview of what the campground offers.
No Mention of Promotions: Promotional Information
The provided reviews do not contain any information about current promotional offers or discounts for Robin's Nest Family Campground. Local users interested in potential deals or special rates will need to contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers: (419) 649-2267 or +1 419-649-2267. Inquiring about seasonal rates, family packages, or any other current promotions would be advisable when making a reservation.
It would also be prudent to ask about the current condition of the water slide and any swimming areas, the state of the internal roads, the amenities available at campsites, and the campground's policies. Given the mixed feedback, direct communication with the campground management is crucial to obtain the most up-to-date information and to assess whether the current offerings meet your family's needs and expectations.
A Campground with a History and Mixed Recent Feedback: In Conclusion
For local users searching for "camping near me" near Harrod, OH, Robin's Nest Family Campground at 2370 Napoleon Rd presents a location with a history in the community, featuring a long-standing water slide and ample space for children to play. A recent family experience highlights the fun had at the park and during swimming, with tent camping being a viable option. However, a detailed personal account from the past raises concerns about the owner's temperament and the potential for negative interactions. Additionally, past issues with "murky water" and "stoney drives" that become muddy in the rain should be considered. As the provided reviews offer a limited and somewhat contrasting view of the campground, local users are strongly encouraged to contact Robin's Nest Family Campground directly to inquire about the current conditions of the facilities, the amenities offered, and any current policies. Understanding these aspects, alongside the historical context and the contrasting personal experiences, will be crucial in making an informed decision about whether Robin's Nest Family Campground is the right choice for your family's camping needs.

Robin's Nest Family Campground Reviews
While driving past this campground, just down the street from where I grew up, I found myself thinking about my history with it. As a child, I recall swimming in its murky water, going down the same water slide that is there now, even 30 years later. When I was older, my siblings and I visited my father when he was camping there at one point. In my high school years, there were a few times that I would meet the friends of friends who were staying there for a holiday weekend. The campground, admittedly, was never outstanding, but it was there.About 20 years ago, a vivid memory was etched in my mind. It was a rainy day, and I was navigating the stoney drives in my first car, a manual. When starting from a muddy, stoney, rain soaked stop at an intersection, I remember struggling for traction. Being a novice driver, I hadn't mastered the technique of starting my manual car in second gear, which might have been more suitable given the muddy conditions, and the poor quality of the driveways there. To any observant onlooker, it would have been evident that I wasn't attempting any reckless driving. However, that day marked a turning point. Shortly after gaining traction, the campground owner confronted me, sternly instructing me that he didn't want to see me there again. His abrupt dismissal was surprising and unwarranted, considering the circumstances. Since then, me and mine have respected his wishes and never revisited. For those who choose to visit, it may offer a camping experience that suits you. However, be mindful of the owner's temperament. You might just find yourself being unexpectedly told to 'get off his lawn', metaphorically speaking, without much reason.
Dec 18, 2023 · Steve SteinerMe and my kiddos had so much fun ... they played at the park, went swimming, we slept outside in our tent ... it's plenty of space for them to run around and play... definitely going back soon.
Jun 12, 2023 · Aaliyah WilsonnThey have confederate flags all over the place. Most sites are dumpy and run down. There are a few nice trailers, but mostly trashy. The shower house....I couldn't stand within 30 ft. Of it without smelling human waste. Never went inside it because of the foul odor. We wanted to stay at Ottawa Metro Park but they are first come/first serve and we got there too late on a holiday weekend. This place was the only campground near Lima we could get into and I now know why!! We ended up leaving early even though we had paid for another night. One night was one too many!! Gave it 1 star because giving it a 0 star rating was not an option. Yuck!
Jul 20, 2018 · Joy ShererGiving 3 stars as folks were friendly. Escorted to the choice of 3 unlevel grass sites that were small and difficult to get into. No info given, just here's your choice. 2 nights $60 cash ( probably to avoid taxes like the man of choice in this neck of the woods, #45) Didn't notice the Trump/ Pence sign at the entrance until later. This place is full of permanent seasonal sites. Has a swimming pond and fishing pond too. Activities for kids. Golf carts rolling around everywhere and so were confederate flags. Not my choice next trip. Thanks
Sep 23, 2021 · Cheri StinnettBathrooms are filthy and full of black flies. Swimming area run down and pond is only good for fishing. Playground is run down. The "Camp Store" was never open. The place really should be shut down.
