Sandy Beach County Park Introduce
Welcome to Sandy Beach County Park, a public campground operated by Solano County, located at 2333 Beach Dr, Rio Vista, CA 94571, USA. This park offers a distinctive camping experience along the scenic Sacramento River Delta, providing a tranquil escape for those seeking a blend of relaxation and outdoor activity. For inquiries and further information, the park can be reached at (707) 374-2097 or +1 707-374-2097.
Sandy Beach County Park is uniquely situated directly on the Sacramento River Delta, offering immediate access to one of California's most extensive inland waterways. The park's namesake "Sandy Beach" provides a charming waterfront area where visitors can enjoy the river. The natural environment is characterized by the flat, open landscapes typical of the Delta, with the expansive river offering picturesque views and a sense of calm. The location in Rio Vista, a quaint Delta town, provides a peaceful setting away from the hustle and bustle of larger urban centers, yet within reasonable driving distance of services. The park is nestled amidst lush greenery and mature trees, offering some shade, especially for picnic areas, which can be particularly inviting during warmer months. The presence of the river makes it an excellent spot for observing local wildlife, particularly waterfowl, and enjoying the serene sounds of the Delta. The park's design allows for easy access to the water, catering to those who wish to engage in river-based activities. It's an environment that encourages unwinding, whether it's through watching boats pass by, enjoying a riverside picnic, or simply soaking in the natural beauty of the Delta. The overall atmosphere can be quite relaxing, offering a respite from daily life, particularly for those who appreciate the gentle pace of river life.
Sandy Beach County Park is equipped to accommodate RVs, offering essential services to ensure a comfortable stay. All sites within the park are pull-through, providing convenience for larger rigs. These sites come with full hookups, which typically include 30 or 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. However, it's worth noting that some past visitors have reported that the hookups are located on the "wrong side" of the pad, which may require campers to use longer hoses or cords. The pads themselves are described as narrow, suggesting that maneuvering larger RVs might require some care. Despite these potential minor inconveniences, the availability of full hookups is a significant advantage for RV campers.
Beyond the individual campsites, the park provides public restrooms and shower facilities for the convenience of all guests. These amenities are crucial for a comfortable camping experience. The park also features a day-use area, separate from the camping section, which includes picnic tables and barbecues, ideal for day visitors or campers looking for a change of scenery for their meals. Given its riverside location, there's likely a boat launch or easy river access for water activities, though specific details on a boat launch weren't provided. The presence of a sandy beach area further enhances the recreational opportunities, allowing for swimming, sunbathing, or simply enjoying the riverside ambiance. For those who enjoy social gatherings around a fire, the park allows campfires, which are a quintessential part of the camping experience and were noted as a highlight by some visitors. The park is also known to be pet-friendly, allowing campers to bring their furry companions, though specific rules regarding leashing and waste disposal would apply to ensure a pleasant experience for all guests.
The primary feature of Sandy Beach County Park is its direct access to the Sacramento River Delta and its emphasis on a relaxing, waterfront camping experience. It serves as an excellent base for various water-based activities. The "Camping Near Me" category benefits from this park's unique Delta location, offering a tranquil alternative to mountain or forest campgrounds. Key features include:
- River Access: Ideal for fishing, boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding directly from the park. The sandy beach provides a gentle entry point to the water.
- Full Hookup RV Sites: Convenience for RV travelers with all necessary connections.
- Relaxing Atmosphere: Many visitors find the park to be a very relaxing place to unwind, particularly away from the noise of city life.
- Proximity to Rio Vista: Easy access to the charm of a small Delta town, with local restaurants and shops like Foster's and The Point for dining out, as mentioned by a past visitor.
- Pet-Friendly: Allows for the inclusion of pets, making it a suitable choice for pet owners.
For promotional purposes, Sandy Beach County Park can highlight its serene riverfront setting as a prime destination for a peaceful getaway. It's ideal for those looking to escape the everyday, enjoy simple pleasures like campfires, and engage in Delta leisure activities. The park can promote itself as a budget-friendly option for RV camping with full hookups, offering excellent value for its riverside location. Marketing could focus on the tranquility and natural beauty, emphasizing opportunities for fishing, boating, and enjoying stunning sunsets over the water. It’s also positioned as a great spot for an easy weekend escape or a longer, laid-back vacation for families and individuals. The park's consistent maintenance, as noted by some positive reviews, can be a strong selling point for campers who prioritize cleanliness and upkeep.
It is crucial for prospective visitors to Sandy Beach County Park to be aware of the booking policies. The park strictly enforces a reservation system, requiring bookings at least 14 days in advance. Drop-ins are generally not permitted, which means spontaneous visits are not an option. Despite this, some past visitors have observed that the park may be under-occupied at times, with only 25% occupancy noted in one instance. This strict reservation policy, coupled with observed low occupancy, can sometimes lead to frustration for those who are unable to plan far in advance or who arrive early for their reserved slot, as highlighted by one customer's experience with a park ranger regarding early arrival. The check-in time is strictly enforced, with arrivals before 2 PM not allowed, which can be a point of contention for some guests.
In terms of pricing, the daily rate of $47 (as mentioned in a past review) is considered by some to be on the higher side for a municipal campground. While the park is generally described as clean and well-maintained by some, other reviews indicate concerns regarding maintenance, specifically mentioning old, worn-down asphalt roads with ruts, potholes, and overgrown weeds. Furthermore, some visitors have reported issues with staff demeanor, describing them as rude. These points suggest that while the park offers a relaxing environment and essential amenities, visitors should manage their expectations regarding staff interactions and the condition of some park infrastructure. It is highly recommended to call ahead to confirm current rates, availability, and specific policies, and to make reservations well in advance to avoid disappointment. Despite some challenges, for those who value a quiet, riverside location and are prepared to adhere to the park's reservation and arrival policies, Sandy Beach County Park can still offer a pleasant Delta camping experience.

Sandy Beach County Park Reviews
The park is so relaxing, but don't arrive before 2 pm. We had lunch one day at Foster's and dinner another at The Point, and four great campfires! It's clean, and we'll maintained.
Mar 31, 2025 · Linda MillerNot a great campground. You must reserve at least 14 days in advance, no drop ins. Place was only 25% occupied when we were here. All sites are pull thru but hookups all on wrong side. Pads are narrow. Road is old worn down asphalt filled with ruts, potholes, and with grass and weeds in every Crack. Maintenance is lacking. Staff is rude. We arrived 39 minutes early and Ranger Ponytail chased us out, said we had to leave til 2pm. Then 17 minutes later walked over to us in the day use parking and gave us our window tag and said we could go in any time we wanted.😠 He did it only because he could. And at $47 a night it is on the high side for a municipal campground.
Oct 25, 2024 · chris mBeach is nice , clean and maintained. Water feels nice and is clear. Great place to bring family for the day or to camp out at .y You'll have a nice day out and some fun memories to share Boat dock near by. Bathrooms not to far from beach. Spots fill up pretty quick so get there early , plus when they hit capacity they close gates and don't allow anymore entry until people leave.
Aug 11, 2024 · RoccoWe have been coming here for almost 20 years, we love it here and have had great memories. Staff is great, very friendlyCampground is clean and well maintainedWe came in last minute with no reservation and got a perfect spot facing the delta.
Dec 19, 2024 · Mike CastilloSandy Beach is a pretty and small beach. It is very clean and well maintained. Plenty of parking. Nice views. My only complaint... no real privacy to the bathrooms! NO DOOR for in and out!!! Just 2 stalls with small doors! A weird couple kept hanging out at the bathroom door! Not to use it, but just hanging out when anyone went in or out. I left the area because of that. I went back and so did they.
