Westgate Landing Campground Introduce
For those searching for a straightforward and serene "Camping Near Me" experience, Westgate Landing Campground in Lodi, California, provides a rustic and charming option. Located at 15799 Glasscock Rd, Lodi, CA 95242, USA, this regional park campground is nestled along the Mokelumne River, offering a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle. While it may not boast extensive amenities, its natural beauty and quiet atmosphere are often highlighted by visitors seeking a more traditional camping experience.
The environment at Westgate Landing Campground is characterized by its tranquil riverfront setting within the expansive San Joaquin Delta. The campground is situated on a river levee, providing beautiful walking views of farmland and the surrounding natural landscape. The presence of the Mokelumne River offers a scenic backdrop and opportunities for various water-based activities. The sites are generally well-shaded by mature trees, though some, like Site 2, may have limited shade, a factor to consider depending on the time of year. This area is rich in birdlife, with many species making it a haven for bird watchers and those who appreciate the sounds of nature. The overall ambiance is quiet and removed, appealing to campers who prefer solitude and a less developed environment. The road leading to the campground may not be perfect, suggesting a somewhat rural and perhaps unpaved approach.
Westgate Landing Campground offers 14 RV/tent campsites. It's crucial for prospective campers to understand that these sites are "no hook-up" sites, meaning there are no electrical, water, or sewer connections available directly at the campsites. This makes it ideal for self-contained RVs or traditional tent camping where reliance on external utilities is minimal. While water is available in the park, as noted by a reviewer, its color might be off, leading some campers to bring their own bottled water. Each campsite typically includes a picnic table and a fire pit, allowing for traditional outdoor cooking and gatherings. The campground accommodates medium-sized RVs, with ample room available at the sites. A two-night minimum stay is often required, which is a consideration for short trips. The pricing, at around $25 per night, is considered by some to be a bit high given the lack of hookups, but others find it reasonable for the peaceful, riverfront location.
Services at Westgate Landing Campground are basic but functional. Restrooms with flushing toilets are available and are generally described as clean and well-maintained. Reviews mention that they are often power-washed, contributing to a fresh smell. However, it's important to note that the restrooms do not include mirrors or showers, aligning with the more rustic nature of the campground. The presence of friendly and well-behaved camp hosts is a consistent positive point in reviews, adding to a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. They are often accompanied by a well-behaved dog, contributing to the friendly vibe. Reservations for camping are highly recommended, especially during peak seasons, and can be made by calling the San Joaquin County Parks Office. While the park is open year-round, it's always advisable to confirm current conditions and access before visiting, as maintenance closures can occur.
The features and activities at Westgate Landing Campground primarily revolve around its river access and natural surroundings. While there isn't a boat launch directly on-site, the campground is conveniently located within 10 minutes of multiple public boat launches in the surrounding area, making it easy for campers to access the Mokelumne River for boating and water activities. There is an overnight boat docking facility with 24 slips available, allowing campers to moor their boats overnight. The park also boasts a fishing pier, making it an excellent spot for anglers. Bank fishing is also readily available along the half-mile of river frontage. The river is a popular spot for fishing, and a California fishing license is required. Beyond fishing and boating, the levy provides scenic walking views, perfect for leisurely strolls, bird watching, and enjoying the natural landscape. The incredible beauty of the view from the docks at sunset is frequently praised by visitors, making it a highlight of the camping experience. The quietness of the park makes it conducive for those seeking relaxation and a break from urban noise.
Promotional information for Westgate Landing Campground, while not explicitly stated in the reviews, can be inferred from its features and the type of experience it offers. It appeals to those seeking a quiet, natural retreat for "Camping Near Me" that is focused on basic outdoor recreation. The emphasis is on the tranquil river environment, the opportunities for fishing and bird watching, and the sense of seclusion. It's a destination for campers who prioritize peace and nature over extensive amenities and resort-style facilities. The presence of helpful camp hosts contributes to a sense of community and support for visitors. The fact that "no one's here" is a highly valued aspect for some campers, highlighting its appeal to those who prefer less crowded environments. While the lack of hookups and showers might deter some, it serves as a self-selection for campers who appreciate a more traditional and self-sufficient outdoor experience. The proximity to Lodi and other small port towns offers opportunities for exploring the local area, though the primary draw remains the campground itself. Westgate Landing is thus promoted as a true getaway into the heart of the San Joaquin Delta, offering a simple yet deeply satisfying connection with nature.

Westgate Landing Campground Reviews
We had a great experience. We stayed for 4 days. Site 2 has limited shade, but most of them are shaded well. Both camp hosts were extremely nice and they had a well behaved and happy dog that accompanied them. Another camper said the water was potable, I didn't clarify with the hosts, but the color was off, so we brought jugs of water. Bathrooms were as expected, flushing toilets, no mirrors, no showers, no complaints. Seemed as though they got power washed often enough cause they smelled very clean. It's really close to the water, no boat launch but within 10 mins of multiple launches. The view was incredibly beautiful from the docks at sunset.
Aug 20, 2023 · BayLee KelleyNo one's here. How much better can it get? There are no amenities. Right on river levy with beautiful walking views of farmland, many species of birds, and small port towns around it. The road isn't perfect. Price is high for no hookups with a two night minimum. There is plenty of room for medium-sized RV.
Feb 16, 2025 · Marcus SorlieLike Boondocking, this campground is out in the "Boonies". This is Dry Camping, no RV hookups. The grounds are well maintained. The Host Sue keeps a watchful eye throughout the campgrounds. She was very helpful. The gates are closed at night. Bathrooms in the Dayuse area well lit and clean. All RV sites are drive through. NO campfires. Awesome Fishing Pond with multi Piers.
Sep 27, 2024 · Stardust BarronWas supposed to stay for a full week here, but left thee days early! While this CG may work for some, it didn't work for me at all. I like to fish, and the fishing wasn't so good - didn't catch a thing. The other thing I like to do is hike with my dogs. Well, this CG is surrounded by private farmland, and as I was walking up the levee I was approached by someone who kicked me off the levee. The total distance I could walk my dogs was about 1/4 mile. Also, I forgot my 5 gallon water jug at home, and the water coming out of the CG pipes was greenish brown, but ironically had a very strong smell of chlorine. I have a fine particle water filter, but I didn't trust the water, or the water in the river. My 25' RV barely fit into a "pull through" spot, and I even had some tires on the grass, even though each site has a sign saying Don't Park On The Grass. If you go here, bring lots of water and a small vehicle. And lots of entertainment, because otherwise this has to be one of the most boring CG's I've ever visited.
Jan 22, 2024 · Glen San MarcosI have enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and the campground is well maintained and feels safe! For a novice camper with small children it has been the ideal place to "get our feet wet"! So far everyone we have met has been kind to my children and no one seems put out when they play and run, this has made the trip even more stress free!!! This is one happy adventuring mom!
