Thousand Trails Turtle Beach

703 Williamson Rd, Manteca, CA 95337, USA

4.0
This is an RV and camping area alongside a river. Folks come to tent camp, fish in the river, and enjoy the calming sounds of running river water. Our stay was initially disappointing due to the unavailability of a space with any RV hook-ups. However, we were able to park next to the river and let the dogs romp in the water. The staff went out of their way to accommodate our needs to the absolute best of their abilities. We did cut our planned 2-day stay short to 1-day but it was an enjoyable night's stay. - Sue Vetter

Thousand Trails Turtle Beach Introduce

For those seeking a relaxing and activity-rich outdoor experience in California's Central Valley, Thousand Trails Turtle Beach offers a compelling destination. Located at 703 Williamson Rd, Manteca, CA 95337, this RV and camping resort, part of the extensive Thousand Trails network, provides a unique blend of riverside serenity and convenient amenities for anyone searching for "Camping Near Me" in the Manteca area.

Environment: A Serene Riverside Setting

Thousand Trails Turtle Beach boasts a picturesque environment, characterized by its prime location alongside the San Joaquin River. This riverside setting is a major draw, offering "calming sounds of running river water" and opportunities for visitors to "tent camp, fish in the river, and enjoy the calming sounds." Many sites, particularly those near the river, offer scenic views and a tranquil atmosphere. While some riverside spots might be without hookups, the ability to "park next to the river and let the dogs romp in the water" is a cherished aspect for many campers.

The park is described as "Super neat and tidy" and "so well kept," with "Magic Mike is always mowing, keeping things so trim," indicating a strong commitment to maintaining a clean and aesthetically pleasing environment. The campsites are generally spacious, with "lots of room to roam for people & pets." While some reviews mention noise from nearby highways and occasional train horns, many appreciate the peaceful moments, especially by the water. There are trees throughout the park, providing some shade, though some sites may be more exposed. The property also features a "lovely lake on the premises," adding another water feature for recreation and enjoyment. Despite its tranquil setting, the resort is conveniently located, being "just minutes from downtown shopping and amenities" in Manteca, and within an hour's drive of San Francisco and Sacramento, and 90 minutes of Yosemite and Historic Gold Country.

Services and Features: A Blend of Comfort and Recreation

Thousand Trails Turtle Beach offers a comprehensive range of services and features catering to both RV and tent campers, reflecting its status as a Thousand Trails resort. The park provides various types of sites:

  • RV Sites: A mix of 30-amp and 50-amp hookups for electricity and water are available. Some sites also offer sewer hookups, providing full-service options for RVers. While not all sites are full hookup, a dump station is available on-site for convenience. Sites are often gravel pads with surrounding grass.
  • Tent Camping: Dedicated shady tent camping areas are available close to the river.

A consistent highlight from reviews is the exceptional staff. Lyra, Pam, and other staff members are frequently praised for being "very active around the park and sweet as pie," "welcoming and very helpful," and going "out of their way to accommodate our needs to the absolute best of their abilities." This friendly and attentive management significantly enhances the visitor experience, even during booking challenges where "you can count on Pam!"

Key amenities and features include:

  • Restrooms and Showers: While some reviews suggest the facilities might be older or in portable units, they are generally described as "clean" and "decent."
  • Bear Boxes: Although not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, as a camping area, it's typical for such parks to have facilities for food storage, especially if there's a risk of wildlife interaction, though bears are not a commonly reported issue here.
  • Picnic Tables and Fire Rings: Each site typically has a picnic table and a fire ring (some sources indicate campers may need to bring their own above-ground, contained fire pits for propane or charcoal, as wood fires might be restricted, so checking current fire policies is advised).
  • Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is often available around the clubhouse or office area, with park-wide Wi-Fi available for a fee through a third-party provider.
  • Recreation: The park's location on the San Joaquin River makes it a prime spot for fishing, particularly for largemouth and striped bass. There's a boat ramp and a fish-cleaning station on site. Other water-based activities like jet skiing and general boating are popular. While extensive organized activities are not detailed, mentions of "Great activities when appropriate" suggest some programming, potentially including potluck dinners mentioned by other sources. A game room with billiards and cards, and a library, are also available.
  • Pet-Friendly: The park welcomes pets, with two pets allowed per site. There may be a pet fee for rental units.
  • Laundry Facilities: Often available in Thousand Trails parks, providing a convenient service for longer stays.
  • RV Storage: Secure RV storage is available for a monthly fee.
  • Self-Service RV Wash.
