Willow Campground is an integral part of the larger Brennan Island campgrounds, suggesting a natural, perhaps island-like, setting typical of the California Delta region. The environment is clearly geared towards outdoor recreation, with a significant emphasis on river access. This is a key feature, as it allows campers to stay cool during warm periods by enjoying the water, as highlighted by a reviewer who noted, "Temp reached over 100, but we stayed cool in the river." This indicates that the campground is well-suited for summer camping, particularly for those who appreciate high temperatures and the immediate relief of water activities.
The atmosphere at Willow Campground appears to be lively and often bustling, especially during peak times. A review mentioning "Today was a busy day. I was only there for fishing but looked like every camp site was occupied" suggests that the campground is a popular choice and can experience high occupancy. This indicates a vibrant, community-oriented environment, perfect for those who enjoy being surrounded by fellow campers and a sense of shared outdoor enjoyment. The presence of ample fishing spots further defines the natural setting, appealing to anglers seeking convenient access to the river's offerings. While specific details on vegetation or terrain are not provided, the context of the Delta suggests a landscape shaped by waterways and potentially some marshy or riparian areas, offering a distinct ecological backdrop for camping.
The primary features and services at Willow Campground revolve around providing a conducive environment for camping and river-based recreation. The availability of numerous "camp sites" is a core service, accommodating a steady stream of visitors. While the exact types of campsites (e.g., tent-only, RV hookups, primitive) are not specified in the provided information, the mention of "every camp site was occupied" during a busy day suggests a robust capacity for campers.
A standout feature of Willow Campground is its reputation as a "great fishing spot." This directly caters to fishing enthusiasts, offering convenient access to the river for angling activities. The positive feedback on the fishing experience suggests that the campground is well-regarded for this particular pursuit. Beyond fishing, the direct access to the river enables other water-based activities that are essential for staying cool during hot weather, such as swimming or simply enjoying the river's edge. This natural amenity serves as a vital cooling mechanism and a source of recreation for campers.
The campground also appears to be highly conducive to group and family gatherings. Reviews highlight successful "whole family" trips and visits with "awesome friends of our family with their children." This indicates that the layout and atmosphere of Willow Campground support communal camping experiences, making it an excellent choice for those looking to enjoy the outdoors with loved ones. While specific amenities like restrooms, showers, or picnic tables are not detailed, the positive feedback on family enjoyment implies that basic necessary facilities are likely in place to support such gatherings.
Willow Campground is strongly promoted by positive word-of-mouth for its suitability for warm-weather camping and its excellent fishing opportunities. It is an ideal destination for those who "enjoy the heat" and seek relief in the river. Families and groups are particularly encouraged to visit, as the campground seems to foster a welcoming and enjoyable environment for shared outdoor adventures. The consistent positive sentiment around "great time" and "awesome trip" underscores its appeal as a reliable spot for memorable getaways.
For individuals searching for "Camping Near Me" with an interest in fishing or spending time on the water during warmer months, Willow Campground should be a top consideration. It offers a straightforward camping experience where the natural environment and river access are the main attractions. Prospective campers should be prepared for potentially high temperatures during their visit, especially in summer, and plan their activities around staying cool by the river. Due to its popularity, especially on busy days, it would be advisable to check availability and potentially make reservations, although specific booking information is not provided. The overall message is clear: Willow Campground is a beloved spot for those who appreciate a lively, warm-weather camping experience centered around the pleasures of the river and good company.

Willow Campground Reviews
Great fishing spot inside Brennan Island campgrounds. Today was a busy day. I was only there for fishing but looked like every camp site was occupied. Great weather for camping if you enjoy the heat!!
Sep 01, 2024 · Roberto ToffolettiWe always have a great time. Whole family came up this time with awesome friends of our family with their children. Awesome trip. Temp reached over 100, but we stayed cool in the river. Nice trip overall.
Sep 16, 2024 · Chavese LoboThis was our first time camping and it was a pleasant experience. There were only about 10 other campsites in use, so although there were no immediate neighbors to our site, I didn't feel too isolated, as I could see the other campers around us. A lot of weeds and foxtails, so I constantly had to check my puppy's paws. The restrooms were adequate and although we didn't use the showers, they looked decent. There are a couple of things I wasn't too keen about which is why I gave it four stars: 1) There are a lot of bugs. Pincher bugs seemed to congregate in one of the restrooms, and 2) Hwy 160 is very close to this recreational area. The noise of the cars going by isn't too bad, but you can definitely hear it when you're trying to get to sleep. On the particular night we stayed, there was some commotion going on that involved a low flying helicopter and sirens. Needless to say, we were a bit concerned about our safety. It eventually subsided and were able to fall back asleep. Overall, it was a good first time camping experience. It was nice having a view of the water. We'll be back again.
May 13, 2024 · Gail AntolinThis is our second time here over the past 2 years. We reserved a few spots for our windsurfing group. It is spacious and clean with plenty of trees scattered about. It’s a little nicer by the river and less nosy; on the street side, the noise of the traffic is non stop. There are 3 or 4 facilities along the campground; during our stay, due to Covid-19, the showers were closed. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Overall, it’s still a lovely place to camp and reasonably priced.
Aug 05, 2020 · Novelette WittI would not recommend. So many dogs and people off leash. There seemed to be no kind of rangers or any staff making themselves present. No one there picked up their dogs poop, ever. The showers by our site did not work, and only had two working toilet and one working sink. The site itself had numerous large holes that could have definitely caused an injury if we had been walking faster or just not paying attention.
