Saranac Lake Islands Campground - Registration Booth Introduce
Are you a local adventurer seeking an extraordinary "camping near me" experience? Look no further than Saranac Lake Islands Campground - Registration Booth, located at 4468 State Rte 3, Saranac Lake, NY 12983, USA. This unique campground offers an unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Adirondacks by camping on pristine islands scattered across Saranac Lake. If you're looking for a departure from traditional campgrounds and crave a more secluded and adventurous outdoor experience, Saranac Lake Islands Campground might be the perfect destination for you.
The very nature of Saranac Lake Islands Campground sets it apart. As the name suggests, the campsites are located on various islands within Saranac Lake. This provides a sense of unparalleled privacy and immersion in nature. Imagine being surrounded by the tranquil waters of the lake, with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The "camping near me" platform truly highlights the distinctiveness of this campground, appealing to those who seek a more remote and adventurous camping style.
The environment is undoubtedly one of the campground's greatest assets. Reviews consistently praise the "beautiful and peaceful" lake and the "unbelievable" views of the mountains. The crystal-clear waters of Saranac Lake invite exploration by boat, kayak, or canoe. The surrounding Adirondack wilderness teems with natural beauty, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. For those who appreciate waking up to the sounds of nature and being surrounded by stunning vistas, Saranac Lake Islands Campground promises an unforgettable experience.
Access to the island campsites is primarily by watercraft. One reviewer noted that while you can bring your own boat, rentals are available at the nearby Saranac Lake Marina. This convenience makes the island camping experience accessible even if you don't own a boat. However, it's crucial to consider the distances to the campsites. The same reviewer "highly recommend getting a motor boat as most campsites are too far to paddle to in my opinion," sharing their personal experience of a "15 minutes canoe from the marina to our campsite on Eagle Island." This highlights the importance of planning your transportation to and from your chosen island carefully, taking into account the size of the lake and the location of your site.
In terms of facilities, Saranac Lake Islands Campground adopts a more rustic approach. One review explicitly states, "The Campground does not have much for facilities. You will have to go somewhere else for a shower if you don’t want to wash in the lake." This is a significant point for potential visitors to consider. If access to showers and standard restroom facilities is a priority, you'll need to make alternative arrangements. The reviewer helpfully suggests that "Meadowbrook campground has some showers and is about 6 miles down the road on the other side of town." This information is crucial for planning and highlights the need for self-sufficiency and potentially traveling off-site for certain amenities.
Safety is always a concern in the outdoors, and one review raises an important issue: "Beware of dead trees at the campsites. Almost every birch tree I saw on Eagle Island was dead and one fell on our tent, missing my nephew’s head by a foot." This is a serious hazard to be aware of. It is advisable to carefully assess your chosen campsite upon arrival for any potential hazards, including dead or leaning trees, and to exercise caution during your stay. Reporting any such concerns to the registration booth might also be prudent.
Despite the limited facilities and the potential hazard of dead trees, many visitors have had overwhelmingly positive experiences. One reviewer exclaimed, "This place was amazing! The views of the mountains and lake were unbelievable. Not to mention the sites are spread out so you truly feel like you are in your own space regardless of what site you book." This feedback underscores the unique appeal of the campground – the sense of privacy and immersion in nature that comes with island camping.
Another reviewer enthusiastically recommends the campground "if you are an avid fisher or kayaker, and a true outdoorsman/woman." This highlights the campground's suitability for those who are comfortable with a more rugged camping experience and who are primarily interested in enjoying the lake and its associated activities. The pristine waters offer excellent opportunities for fishing, and the numerous islands and coves are perfect for exploration by kayak or canoe.

The opportunity to camp on your own island, surrounded by the beauty of Saranac Lake and the Adirondack mountains, is a significant draw. However, it's crucial to be prepared for the limited facilities and the need for water-based transportation.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided text. However, the unique nature of island camping itself serves as a significant attraction. Potential promotions could focus on highlighting the pristine natural environment, the opportunities for water sports and fishing, or partnerships with local rental companies to offer package deals including boat rentals and camping permits.
To fully enjoy your experience at Saranac Lake Islands Campground, it is highly recommended to:
- Plan your transportation carefully: Consider the distance to your chosen island and whether a motorboat is necessary. Arrange for boat rental well in advance if needed.
- Be prepared for limited facilities: Bring all necessary supplies, including toiletries and potentially a portable camping shower if desired. Plan for off-site shower access if this is important to you.
- Assess your campsite for hazards: Upon arrival, carefully check for any dead or unstable trees and choose your tent location accordingly.
- Pack appropriately for a rustic environment: Be prepared for varying weather conditions and bring gear suitable for island camping and water activities.

Sep 23, 2023 · John EppigWe have been staying at different sites on Middle Saranac Lake for 25 years. We canoe camp and like to put in at South Creek. Each site has a fire pit, table and outhouse. Some sites have a lean-too. We stayed at site 87 for six days in August. It rained every day, so we swam every day in the rain.
Sep 08, 2022 · Steve LockeWhat an awesome place to camp. People like me won't appreciate the restroom situation there but hey, you are going to the woods, you can't expect a fully functional toilet over there. You need to go to your camping sites using a boat. 1 day charge for a 4 people motorboat would be 150$. I would say worth it. Overall It was a experience of a lifetime.
Jun 18, 2019 · akhilesh malgeOne of the Most Beautiful Places in America. Have camped on both Eagle and Halfway Islands, and would highly recommend the campground. Rent a canoe, grill on the island, listen to the loon calls...as tranquil as it gets.
