Schroon Lake Camps Introduce
For local residents and travelers seeking an authentic Adirondack camping experience within the "camping near me" category, Schroon Lake Camps, located at 1341 US-9, Schroon Lake, NY 12870, presents a campground nestled in the woods with convenient access to both natural attractions and local amenities. You can reach them at (518) 532-9999 or their mobile number +1 518-532-9999 for inquiries and reservations. Recent customer reviews offer contrasting perspectives on the campground's environment, services, and overall experience.
One reviewer enthusiastically describes Schroon Lake Camps as providing a "real Adirondack experience," emphasizing its wooded setting with ample space for campers. This suggests an environment where visitors can feel immersed in the natural beauty of the Adirondack region. A significant advantage highlighted is its proximity to both the High Peaks Wilderness area and the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness, making it an excellent basecamp for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore these renowned natural areas. Furthermore, the campground's location directly across from Schroon Lake offers potential lake access, although the specifics of this access (e.g., swimming, boating) are not detailed.
Adding to its appeal, Schroon Lake Camps is conveniently located within walking distance of nearby restaurants, a grocery store, a bar, and other basic necessities. This blend of a natural, secluded feel with easy access to essential services is a notable feature, offering campers the best of both worlds. The same reviewer also commends the owner and employees of the campground for being "very accommodating" and "some of the nicest people" they have met. They report a willingness to work with guests and provide assistance in any way possible, suggesting a positive and helpful staff culture. This reviewer highly recommends the campground for those with campers, provided they have an available spot, and notes its convenient driving distance (approximately 30 minutes) from both Lake George and Lake Placid, expanding the range of nearby attractions.
However, another, more critical review presents a contrasting experience, focusing on issues related to management and communication. This reviewer recounts receiving a reminder about the campground's closing date and the need to move their camper by a specific deadline to avoid storage fees and limited access until spring. The core of their negative experience stemmed from a power outage on their lot, which they reported to the manager, assuming that would suffice. They were later held responsible for not contacting the owner directly and felt they were treated disrespectfully. This reviewer also mentioned conversations with neighbors suggesting that similar communication and responsibility issues had occurred with other campers.
This negative review raises concerns about the internal communication within the campground management and the way issues are addressed with guests. The reviewer, who had no intention of leaving their camper over the winter due to the presence of trees, stated unequivocally that they would "never again even think of going there again" based on this negative interaction.
Considering these two reviews, the environment of Schroon Lake Camps seems to genuinely offer an "Adirondack experience" with a wooded setting and proximity to significant natural attractions like the High Peaks and Pharaoh Lake Wilderness, as well as Schroon Lake itself. The convenience of being within walking distance of local amenities is a significant feature that enhances its appeal. The positive review strongly highlights the accommodating and friendly nature of the owner and employees.
However, the negative review points to potential shortcomings in the campground's management, particularly concerning communication with guests regarding important matters and the handling of reported issues. The discrepancy in expectations between the guest and the management regarding who to contact for problems, and the subsequent interaction, are serious points of consideration for prospective campers.
For local users searching within the "camping near me" category, Schroon Lake Camps offers a compelling combination of a natural Adirondack setting and convenient access to both outdoor adventures and local services. The positive feedback regarding the staff's helpfulness is a significant plus. However, the reported issues with management communication and the handling of problems should not be overlooked. Potential campers may want to inquire about the campground's policies and procedures regarding maintenance requests and communication protocols when making a reservation.
Without specific promotional offers mentioned in the reviews, the primary promotion for Schroon Lake Camps is its location, the described "real Adirondack experience," the proximity to hiking and lakes, and the convenience of nearby amenities. The positive endorsement of the staff further enhances its appeal. However, the negative experience shared by one reviewer serves as a cautionary note regarding potential management challenges.
In conclusion, Schroon Lake Camps near Schroon Lake, NY, offers a promising base for exploring the Adirondacks, with a natural wooded environment and the advantage of being close to both wilderness areas and local conveniences. The friendly and accommodating staff, as reported by one reviewer, can significantly enhance the camping experience. However, the concerns raised by another reviewer regarding management communication and issue resolution should prompt potential local campers to seek more information and perhaps inquire directly about these aspects before booking a stay. Weighing the positive aspects of location and staff against the potential management issues will be key for local users to determine if Schroon Lake Camps is the right fit for their Adirondack camping needs.

Schroon Lake Camps Reviews
A real Adirondack experience, you are nestled back in the woods with a lot of space. Very close to the high peaks and pharaoh lake wilderness. It’s directly across from the lake and walking distance to nearby restaurants, grocery store, bar and the basic necessities. The owner and employees of the camp ground are very accommodating and some of the nicest people I’ve met, they will work with you and help you out anyway they can. If you have a camper and they have a spot open I fully recommend this campground. 30 min from lake George and 30 min from lake placid
Mar 07, 2024 · Beef Garbachio. I went from a reminder the campground was closing Monday and if I was moving my camper it had to be done by Monday, otherwise I would need to make other arrangements to if I didn't get it out I would have to pay to have it stored and not be able to get it until spring. There was an issue with no power on my lot, I reported it to the manager I thought that was enough. No, I should have called the owner to and I am the irresponsible one. I really don't care to be talked to that way and as an owner you should know what is going on in your campground from your managers. And from conversations I had with the neighbors, I was not the only one that this happened to. I had no plans to leave the camper there over winter with all of the trees but I will say this I would never again even think of going there again.
Oct 10, 2021 · sue williamsWas a camper at Schroon Lake Campgrounds for 20+ years. Camps are nestled amongst gorgeous pine trees giving each and every camper the true Adirondack experience. Only one mile to the beach and lovely town; drive down or enjoy the walk! Being an avid hiker, I appreciated how close Schroon Lake Campgrounds are to the High Peaks and the hundreds of other spectacular hiking locations. I HIGHLY recommend this campground!
