Scaroon Manor Campground Introduce
For local users in the Adirondack region of New York or those searching within the "camping near me" category for a serene and picturesque camping experience on Schroon Lake, Scaroon Manor Campground in Pottersville, NY 12860, USA, offers a compelling option. Based on customer reviews, this New York State campground is particularly renowned for its stunning landscape and tranquil atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for those who appreciate a quieter, more nature-immersive camping experience, especially those favoring tent camping and a more traditional outdoor adventure.
The environment of Scaroon Manor Campground is a significant highlight, with reviewers consistently praising its beauty. Situated directly on the shores of Schroon Lake, campers can expect breathtaking lake views and easy access to the water. The campground features a beach area, providing opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and simply enjoying the lakeside scenery. Beyond the lake, the campground is nestled within the Adirondack Park, known for its vast wilderness, lush forests, and rolling mountains. The landscape is described as "stunning," suggesting a visually appealing natural setting perfect for relaxation and exploration. Even during the off-season, visitors can enjoy the grounds, including the beach and the intriguing old ruins of an amphitheater, hinting at a rich history and unique features within the campground.
While specific details about all services are not exhaustively listed in the reviews, we can glean some insights. As a New York State campground, Scaroon Manor likely offers well-maintained campsites, as one reviewer noted the sites were "very well maintained." The availability of a beach indicates access to swimming and potentially other water-related activities. The mention of polite staff suggests a welcoming and helpful service orientation. While not directly a service, the proximity to the quaint small town of Pottersville is a significant advantage, offering a charming glimpse of small-town America and local businesses. For essential supplies, a Dollar General is conveniently located about 10 minutes away, with a Walmart about a 40-minute drive for more extensive needs. It is important to note that specific amenities like full RV hookups are not explicitly mentioned in a positive light for "real camping" enthusiasts, suggesting a focus that might lean more towards traditional camping.
The features of Scaroon Manor Campground contribute to its unique appeal, particularly for those seeking a peaceful retreat. The direct access to Schroon Lake and the presence of a beach are significant features for water lovers. The old ruins of an amphitheater add a touch of historical intrigue and offer a unique area to explore. The campground's location away from large population centers contributes to its quiet and tranquil atmosphere, making it a "hidden gem" for those seeking an escape from the noise and crowds. The friendly local atmosphere, where "everyone knows each other's name," adds a welcoming and community-oriented feel. However, it is crucial to note a significant feature highlighted in the reviews: Scaroon Manor Campground is explicitly "not recommended for children" by a reviewer who observed complaints about a lack of activities for kids. This suggests that the campground's features are geared more towards adults who enjoy a more self-directed camping experience focused on relaxation, nature, and the quiet beauty of the surroundings rather than organized activities or specific children's amenities.
Promotional information is not directly available in the provided reviews. As a New York State campground, any potential promotions or discounts, such as off-season rates or multi-night stay discounts, would likely be advertised through the New York State Parks website or official publications. The reviewer who enjoys visiting in the off-season by parking outside the gate implies that there might be different rules or accessibility during these times, which could potentially offer a quieter and perhaps more budget-friendly way to enjoy the grounds, although overnight camping outside designated sites is likely prohibited. Local users should check the official NYS Parks website for any current promotions, seasonal rates, and reservation information for Scaroon Manor Campground.
For local users in the Adirondack region seeking a "camping near me" experience that prioritizes natural beauty, tranquility, and a connection with Schroon Lake, Scaroon Manor Campground is a highly recommended option, particularly for adults and those who prefer a more traditional, self-sufficient camping style. The stunning landscape, lake access with a beach, and the unique historical ruins offer a rich and rewarding environment. The proximity to the charming town of Pottersville and the availability of nearby essential stores provide convenience without detracting from the campground's peaceful ambiance. However, families with young children should take note of the feedback regarding the limited activities for kids and consider whether the campground's quiet and nature-focused atmosphere aligns with their family's preferences.
The positive reviews from those who appreciate "real camping" with tents and seek to avoid crowded or overly developed campgrounds further emphasize the appeal of Scaroon Manor for a specific type of camper. The recommendation of specific sites like #60 and #55 for tent campers suggests that certain areas of the campground may offer a particularly enjoyable and authentic experience. Local users who value peace, quiet, and the beauty of the Adirondacks will likely find Scaroon Manor Campground to be a "hidden gem" worth exploring, especially during the less crowded off-peak seasons.
In conclusion, Scaroon Manor Campground offers local users a beautiful and tranquil camping experience on the shores of Schroon Lake in the Adirondacks. Its stunning landscape, lake access, and historic charm make it a desirable destination for adults and those who appreciate a quieter, more nature-focused getaway. While it may not be the ideal choice for families with young children seeking extensive activities, its appeal to those who enjoy "real camping" and the serenity of the Adirondacks is undeniable. Local users are encouraged to visit the New York State Parks website for reservation information, seasonal details, and any potential promotions to plan their peaceful escape to Scaroon Manor Campground.

Scaroon Manor Campground Reviews
Very busy during the peak season as it is a lovely NYS campground on Schroon Lake. I like to go in the off season, park outside the gate & enjoy the grounds which include the beach & the old ruins of the amphitheater
Sep 16, 2024 · Nathan JuneI came here for a mini-vacation to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday in early September. We stayed here for 2 nights at site #60 and we had an absolutely amazing experience. The staff were some of the most polite I've met, the landscape is stunning, and the sites were very well maintained. The town this campground is set in is one of the most beautiful examples of quaint small town America I've seen. It's one of those places where everyone knows each other's name and everyone is super friendly. I loved going in to the small "main street" area and going to all the small businesses along the street. This campground is far from any large population center, but there are several stores such as Dollar General about 10 minutes down the road which has everything you would need for camping inside it. The closest walmart is also about a 40 minute drive if you absolutely need it.I absolutely do not recommend this campground for children, I see many complaints on other reviews saying "my kids didn't enjoy it here" and "there wasn't anything fun to do here." There are very few activities available at this campground, so you have to be the type of person who enjoys making their own adventure and prefers to go off the beaten path to enjoy your stay here.All-in-all this is the most beautiful and quiet campground I have ever had the pleasure of staying at. It is a absolute hidden gem. For every camper who wants to do some REAL camping with a tent and despises those "glampers" and their cushy RV's I highly recommend sites #60 and #55. Thank you!
Sep 15, 2020 · M PNever stayed overnight but often stopped there with the boat. They have often let us use the bathroom stopping in without charging us to use dock space etc. There is also a really nice area that you can pull up to and hang out that's a natural beach.
Jul 09, 2024 · Martin DaleWe really enjoyed this camp ground. At first I was a bit worried with the openness that I would not like it but we stayed on a good note which had lots of privacy. The entire campground is really clean and nice to walk through. We did not even put on bug spray because they where non-existent. The beach here is a bit small for a lake so big but overall it's a great campground. You can purchase wood right outside the gates for 5 dollars a bundle. There is also a cool old ampitheater that you can explore. Def would recommend and I will be going back
Jul 02, 2018 · Jordan RakoskeThis is an unusual State campground in the Adirondacks because of its spacious open grassy areas. Most Adirondack campgrounds operated by the State have no grass cover and are heavily treed with dead leaves and pine needles only. This is a relatively new campground and was the site of a former upscale resort hotel with a rich history. The aforementioned grassy areas were the resort’s golf course. The beach is tiny but adequate. If you desire shade and trees, choose sites in the Amphitheater Loop. Be prepared for mortal combat with black flies and gnats. The hamlet of Schroon Lake is a ten minute drive and has everything you will need for provisions as well as dining.
