Camp Buckskin Introduce
For local families in New York searching within the "camping near me" category, Camp Buckskin, located at 40 Curtis Read Rd, Brant Lake, NY 12815, offers a distinctive camping experience primarily centered around youth development and outdoor adventure, particularly within the context of a Boy Scout camp. While the reviews provided come from parents whose children attended the camp, they offer valuable insights into the environment, services, and features that might be of interest to those considering similar programs for their children or potentially related family camping opportunities if available.
One parent recounts their first experience attending a Boy Scout camp as an adult accompanying their 11-year-old son. The review overwhelmingly highlights the positive impact of Camp Buckskin on their child. Notably, the son was so engaged with the camp activities and social interactions that he did not use or ask for his cell phone for the entire seven-day duration of their stay. This digital detachment underscores the immersive and engaging nature of the camp environment. Furthermore, even after returning home, the child showed a continued preference for real-world activities over video games, repeatedly expressing a desire to go back to camp. This speaks volumes about the lasting positive impression Camp Buckskin made.
The parent specifically mentions their son's enjoyment of the freedom and camaraderie with his friends. A particular highlight was the archery range, where he had the opportunity to earn a badge and learn how to shoot a longbow. This detail illustrates the structured learning and skill-building activities offered at Camp Buckskin, which contribute to the campers' personal growth and sense of accomplishment.
Another review from a parent emphasizes the helpfulness and friendliness of the camp staff. This is a crucial aspect of any youth-focused program, as supportive and approachable staff can significantly enhance the campers' experience and well-being. The reviewer also praised the quality of the food provided at the camp. The only minor issue noted was the seating arrangement in the dining hall, where the benches were perceived as being a bit too close together for adults, especially when individuals had backpacks or other items that took up space. This suggests that while the core experience is positive, there might be minor logistical considerations for accompanying adults.
The weather during the reviewed week was also favorable, with only a few light showers on one day and beautiful weather for the remainder of the time. Positive weather conditions naturally contribute to a more enjoyable outdoor experience. The reviewer concluded by expressing hope for a return visit in the coming years, indicating overall satisfaction with their experience at Camp Buckskin.
Based on these reviews, the environment of Camp Buckskin is situated in the Adirondacks near Brant Lake, NY, suggesting a beautiful natural setting conducive to outdoor activities. The fact that campers are "nestled back in the woods" implies a sense of immersion in nature, providing a backdrop for various camp programs. The proximity to Brant Lake itself is not explicitly mentioned in these reviews, but the region is known for its lakes and forests, offering opportunities for exploration and outdoor adventures.
The services and features of Camp Buckskin, as gleaned from the reviews, include structured activities such as an archery range where campers can learn new skills and earn badges. The provision of food in a dining hall is also a key service, catering to the nutritional needs of the campers. The helpful and friendly staff contribute significantly to the overall positive experience. While not detailed, it can be inferred that the camp offers a range of other outdoor and educational programs typical of a Boy Scout camp, designed to foster teamwork, leadership, and personal growth in a safe and supervised environment.
The primary feature of Camp Buckskin appears to be its focus on providing a positive and engaging summer camp experience for young people, particularly within the framework of the Boy Scout program. The emphasis on activities that promote learning, skill development (like archery), independence, and social interaction is evident in the positive outcomes reported by the parents. The digital detox experienced by the child in the first review highlights the camp's ability to captivate the campers' attention and provide fulfilling alternatives to screen time.

Camp Buckskin Reviews
My first time attending a Boy Scout camp, and yes I was an adult for my first visit. My son (11) absolutely loved it! He did not use or ask for his cell phone once for the entire 7 days we were there. Also we have been home for 3 days and he still hasn't turned on his video games once, he just keeps telling us he wants to go back to camp. He loved the freedom and hanging out with his friends but his favorite was the archery range where he earned a badge and got to learn how to shoot a long bow.
Aug 05, 2019 · Matt MartoccioStaff was very helpful and friendly. The food was great the only minor problem was seating at the dinning hall. The benches were a bit close together for adults especially if people were wearing backpacks or had them anywhere but under the tables. The weather was even better we only had a few light showers one day the rest of the week was beautiful. Hopefully we will get a chance to return again in the next few years.
