Like many locations within the Adirondacks, one camper mentioned that "Mosquitoes are a problem but that's true throughout the ADK." This is a common consideration when planning any outdoor activity in the region, and it's advisable to come prepared with insect repellent to ensure a more comfortable stay.
In terms of amenities, one recent visitor reported a positive experience with the facilities, stating, "Our campsite was very clean! The showers are nice, very hot water! The bathrooms were clean." This feedback suggests that the campground takes pride in maintaining clean and functional facilities for its guests, which is always a welcome aspect of any camping experience. The availability of hot showers is often a significant comfort for campers.
The same reviewer also noted the respectful atmosphere among fellow campers, saying, "All the other campers were respectful. Nice quiet campground." A peaceful and considerate camping community can greatly enhance the overall enjoyment of your time outdoors, contributing to a relaxing and tranquil environment.
One specific inquiry from a guest concerned the pet policy regarding the trails around Putnam Pond. They noted a sign stating "no dogs in day use area" and were unsure if this restriction applied to all the trails surrounding the pond or just the beach area. They expressed a desire for clarification on this matter, especially as they were planning a return visit in the fall. While this specific answer isn't provided in the reviews, it highlights the presence of trails and the importance of understanding the campground's regulations regarding pets in different areas.
Overall, Putnam Pond Campground appears to be a well-regarded destination for those seeking "camping near me" in a beautiful natural setting. Its strengths include well-maintained facilities, spacious and shaded campsites, a helpful and friendly staff, and excellent access to hiking trails in the Pharoah Lake Wilderness Area. The peaceful environment, potentially enhanced by limited cell service for some, adds to its appeal as a place to unwind and connect with nature. While the presence of mosquitoes is typical for the region, and a specific question about dog access on trails remains, the overwhelmingly positive feedback suggests a high likelihood of a satisfying camping experience.

Jul 05, 2024 · Steve DowneyI found this campground last minute, it honestly was great! The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Our campsite was very clean! The showers are nice, very hot water! The bathrooms were clean. All the other campers were respectful. Nice quiet campground. My only question was if we could hike the trails surrounding the pond with a dog since the sign said no dogs in day use area? I didn’t know if that was just the beach area or all the trails around the lake? I would love if someone answered this for me. Overall, great trip! We are looking to come back in the fall!
Aug 09, 2023 · Kathy HPutnam Pond Campground is lovely! The facilities are clean, the staff was very friendly, and the pond was easily accessible for canoeing. My only complaint was that, as this campground has so much wetlands, the mosquito situation was OUT OF CONTROL. I left with at least 3 dozen mosquito bites from 2 nights of camping. We left early due to the excessive amount of mosquitoes. We do not like chemical bug-repellants, and our natural product did not work on the number of mosquitoes at this campground. Did I say EXCESSIVE amounts of mosquitoes? Too many.
Aug 16, 2023 · Christine DempseyWe stayed for 10 days and had a blast. It was so nice to be able to access a substantial body of water to explore that was calm enough to take our 7 year old out in her kayak. The fishing was superb and quick access to all the hiking trails was great. Camp staff were very friendly and accommodating. There was great tree cover, which was something we were looking for after staying at Schroon Manor last year which had a lot of open grassy areas. We had site 48 which would be great for a small tent maybe 2 but it sits on a hill that has quite a pitch that is difficult to navigate. The site itself has a drop off on one side, and a giant rock that takes up most the site. The site also has a lot of tree roots which makes it hard to find a good spot to anchor a larger tent. The site does have a trail directly to the bathroom-another camper told me this but I wasn’t able to find it. The bathrooms are adequately cleaned & maintained. Shower stall #1 on the women’s side in building 6 is the best.
Jul 15, 2022 · Gabrielle DessaintHighly recommend!!!! Under rated! Under populated this time of year! Our campsite was fantastic and so quiet! We would 100% come back here. Reminds us of some primitive camping we did in Michigan. Water throughout park, dump station, no electricity. Nice to bike around the park. Again, highly recommend!
