SeaMist Camping Resort Introduce
For local residents exploring "camping near me" along the North Carolina coast, SeaMist Camping Resort, located at 4616 Devane Rd SW, Shallotte, NC 28470, USA, presents itself as a potential option. However, recent feedback from long-term campers provides important insights that local users should consider when evaluating this campground for their needs.
Based on the available reviews, the environment of SeaMist Camping Resort appears to have aspects that were initially appealing, particularly for those seeking a longer-term or potentially waterfront experience. The mention of "waterfront lots" suggests a location that may offer scenic views and access to water, which can be a significant draw for local campers wanting to be near the coast. However, it's crucial to note that the recent reviews paint a picture of a campground where the environment and overall quality may be declining.
In terms of services and features, the reviews touch upon several aspects, some positive in the past but currently raising concerns. The fact that some families have been on permanent spots for over two years indicates that SeaMist Camping Resort has catered to long-term residents. Amenities mentioned, though critically assessed in the reviews, include a pool area and Wi-Fi. However, recent experiences suggest potential shortcomings in the upkeep and functionality of these services. The pool area is described as "not very clean" with a lack of chairs and restrictions on floats. Wi-Fi is reported to be "horrible" unless located close to the office, with promised improvements not yet realized. The presence of dirt roads with "huge potholes" also impacts the overall comfort and accessibility within the campground.
One significant feature that seems to be causing considerable concern among long-term residents is the management policies and their impact on costs and regulations. Rent increases have occurred multiple times, with another increase starting in May 2025. This escalating cost is a crucial factor for local users considering a seasonal or longer-term stay. Furthermore, promised improvements, such as the fixing of potholes and the upgrade of Wi-Fi with wider broadband, have reportedly not materialized despite the rent increases. This discrepancy between rising costs and the lack of promised improvements is a significant point of contention for current residents.
Another critical issue raised in the reviews concerns decks built by long-term residents. These decks, costing "thousands of dollars" and reportedly built according to plans drawn and approved by SeaMist staff, are now being questioned. Residents are being told to remove them or obtain county permits, despite the decks being in place for a significant amount of time. This situation highlights potential inconsistencies in management or communication regarding regulations, which could be a major concern for any local user planning to invest in site improvements for a longer stay.
The lack of promised infrastructure upgrades, such as the "50 amp breakers" that have been awaited for over a year, further suggests potential issues with the campground's management fulfilling its commitments. This could impact the convenience and functionality of the campsites for those relying on higher power capacity.
A particularly noteworthy feature, and a significant negative aspect according to the reviews, is the overpopulation of cats within the park. The reviews state that the cats "just keep breeding and nothing has been done about it." This has led to issues with trash being destroyed, cats entering campers, and restrictions on pet dogs due to excessive barking at the free-roaming feline population. For local users who are pet owners, the inability to bring dogs or the potential for issues caused by a large number of cats is a crucial factor to consider.
Considering the platform category "camping near me," local users often prioritize factors such as cost, amenities, cleanliness, and overall management. The recent reviews for SeaMist Camping Resort raise serious concerns in several of these areas. The repeated rent increases without corresponding improvements, the issues with pool cleanliness and usability, the unreliable Wi-Fi, the deteriorating road conditions, and the problem with stray cats all suggest a decline in the quality of the camping experience. The uncertainty surrounding previously approved structures like decks adds another layer of concern for potential long-term local campers.
There is no promotional information provided in the reviews. Instead, the feedback serves as a cautionary note for anyone considering SeaMist Camping Resort, particularly for long-term or seasonal stays. The reviewers strongly advise potential tenants to be aware of the current conditions and management policies before signing a lease. The sentiment expressed is one of disappointment with the direction the campground has taken over the past year, coupled with dissatisfaction with the treatment of tenants.
For local users specifically looking for "camping near me" for short-term stays, it is still advisable to consider the issues raised by long-term residents. While some of these issues might be less impactful for a brief visit, concerns about cleanliness, amenities (like the pool and Wi-Fi), and the general upkeep of the campground (such as the roads) could still affect the overall experience. The presence of a large cat population might also be a consideration for those with allergies or aversions.
Given the strong negative feedback regarding recent management practices, rent increases without improvements, unresolved infrastructure issues, and the problem with stray cats, local users searching for "camping near me" in Shallotte, NC, should approach SeaMist Camping Resort with caution. It would be prudent to conduct thorough due diligence, perhaps by visiting the campground in person, speaking directly with current residents (if possible), and clearly understanding all current policies and costs before making a decision. The experiences shared in the reviews suggest that the reality of SeaMist Camping Resort in May 2025 may not align with the expectations of a "nice campground for their family to enjoy," as one reviewer initially hoped.

SeaMist Camping Resort Reviews
For anyone looking into a nice campground for their family to enjoy, this is not the place to go. My Family has beenon a permanent spot for over two years, they have raised the rent three times and another one starting in May 2025 with promises of improvements that have never been made. Decks that we have spent thousands of dollars on which were drawn and approved by staff of Seamist campground, which is what we were told to do. We are now being told have to be taken off the campers or we have to go to the county to get a permit —these decks have been up for a long time. If that was the county ordinance it should’ve been done in the beginning or they should’ve done it as our plans were turned into the Seamist office. Promised 50 amp breakers for over a year and nothing has been done, pool area not very clean no Chairs to sit in, and you are not allowed floats in the Pool. The dirt road continues to have huge potholes which they have promised to fix, And the Wi-Fi is horrible unless you are located close to the office which we have been told would be fixed with a wider broadband over a year. Park is also over Ran by cats. They just keep breeding and nothing has been done about it. Your trash gets destroyed they get up in your camper not to mention you can’t take your dogs because all they do is bark at all the cats running around free. Due to all the circumstances, we will be leaving the campground to a better place. The reasoning for my review is so that anyone knows what is really going on before they sign A lease in a place that has went downhill over the last year dramatically not to mention the treatment the tenants have received. Thank you all.
Mar 23, 2025 · BrandyI’m sure all the Five Star reviews will change their mind with the new owner/management policies. Rent has gone up every season. Waterfront lots are now $1275 per month. Decks are now under question by the County. No paved roads. Residence living has been allowed and overlooked by current management even though not up to code. Many sites show neglect. Move on to next campsite. Definitely not worth the money!!
Mar 23, 2025 · Vone McdanielStayed here for 3 nights and the people are very friendly and helpful. Our main goal was to visit Holden and Myrtle Beach which we did. The campsite is nice. There are no firepits and a bit disappointed that we couldn't really just walk down to dip our toes in the water. But love the area.
Oct 01, 2024 · Jamie MeyerIt's beautiful piece full yet many things to do and the resort does many things for the guests they allow you to have plants in a reasonable container of course It's just a awesome place to be and the staff I have met where just super nice and very professional, you will be lucky if you can stay here it's just awesome!!!
Jun 09, 2024 · Tamara FincannonFrom the moment I made my reservation and spoke to Ms. Missie I couldn't wait to meet her because of her polite and friendly voice. Now if you looking for excitement and upscale amenities this is not the campsite for you but if you looking for peace, friendly people, and a private pier and beach access where you can just sit and enjoy the Good Lord's creation; then this is the place for you. The wifi is also awesome that includes 4g and 5g network and the spaces are wide. I would definitely visit again.
