Shired Island Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a unique "camping near me" experience along Florida's Gulf Coast, Shired Island Campground presents a compelling option, particularly for those who appreciate natural beauty, exceptional shelling opportunities, and stunning sunset views. Located in Florida, though a specific address beyond the state is not provided, Shired Island offers a coastal camping experience that emphasizes the natural environment. The availability of phone contact at (352) 498-0009 and a mobile number at +1 352-498-0009 suggests the campground is accessible for inquiries and bookings from local users.
Based on visitor feedback, the environment around Shired Island Campground is a significant draw. One reviewer enthusiastically recommends it as a "Great place to visit for some shelling and sunset watching." This highlights the unique coastal features of the area. For local users searching for "camping near me" with an interest in beachcombing and collecting shells, Shired Island appears to be a prime location. The promise of spectacular sunsets further enhances its appeal, offering a picturesque backdrop for a relaxing camping experience. The opportunity to walk the beach and enjoy these natural wonders seems to be a central feature for visitors, even those who did not camp overnight.
Another reviewer notes that Shired Island is a "wonderful place to bring your children" and highlights the "great fishing" opportunities. This suggests that the campground and its surrounding area cater to families looking for outdoor activities. Fishing can be a significant draw for local campers, and the positive feedback indicates that Shired Island delivers in this regard. This aligns with the "camping near me" category, offering a local destination where families can engage in outdoor recreation together.
However, the same reviewer also points out a significant environmental factor to consider: "Not the best for swimming but great fishing. All those rocks and sharp oyster shells will cut you up while you swim." This is crucial information for local users considering Shired Island for "camping near me," especially those with children who enjoy swimming. The presence of rocks and sharp oyster shells along the shoreline makes swimming potentially hazardous. This suggests that while the coastal environment is beautiful and offers other recreational activities, swimming directly off the campground's beach area may not be advisable.
Regarding services and features, the limited information available online focuses primarily on the natural environment and recreational opportunities. The positive comments about shelling, sunset watching, and fishing imply that access to the beach and the coastal waters are key features of Shired Island Campground. However, specific details about campsites (e.g., tent or RV sites), amenities (e.g., picnic tables, fire pits), or facilities (e.g., restrooms, showers) are not extensively described in the provided reviews. The mention of phone numbers suggests that direct contact is the best way for local users to inquire about these specific services and make reservations.
One critical piece of feedback regarding the facilities is the statement: "...only giving 4 stars because the bathrooms and showers are disgusting." This is an important consideration for local users searching for "camping near me" who value clean and well-maintained facilities. This negative feedback suggests a potential area for improvement at the campground. While the natural attractions are highly praised, the condition of the restrooms and showers could impact the overall camping experience for some visitors. It is essential for prospective local campers to be aware of this recent feedback when making their decision.
The final comment from the second reviewer, "The last picture is what all the kids legs and arms looked like after swimming for an hour," visually reinforces the earlier warning about the sharp oyster shells and rocks, making swimming potentially harmful. This further emphasizes that while Shired Island Campground offers a beautiful coastal environment and opportunities for shelling and fishing, swimming directly in the adjacent waters may not be suitable, especially for children. Local families considering "camping near me" at this location should take this into account and plan for alternative swimming options if desired.
In terms of promotional information, the positive reviews themselves act as a form of promotion, highlighting the exceptional shelling and sunset views. The fact that it's considered a "wonderful place to bring your children" for fishing also serves as a positive endorsement for families. However, the negative feedback regarding the bathroom and shower facilities is a crucial piece of information that potential local campers should be aware of. There is no specific promotional offer or discount mentioned in the provided text.
For local users in Florida seeking a "camping near me" experience that prioritizes coastal beauty, exceptional shelling, and great fishing, Shired Island Campground offers a unique opportunity. The stunning sunsets are an added bonus. However, potential visitors should be aware that swimming directly off the beach may be hazardous due to rocks and sharp oyster shells, and recent feedback indicates concerns about the cleanliness of the bathrooms and showers. It is recommended that local campers contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers to inquire about specific amenities, campsite details, and the current condition of the facilities to ensure it meets their needs for their "camping near me" getaway.

Great place to visit for some shelling and sunset watching. Didn't camp here just spent tme walking the beach shelling and then enjoyed a spectacular sunset
Mar 09, 2024 · Scott DiekemaThis is a wonderful place to bring your children. Not the best for swimming but great fishing. All those rocks and sharp oyster shells will cut you up while you swim. It is an awesome place but only giving 4 stars because the bathrooms and showers are disgusting. The last picture is what all the kids legs and arms looked like after swimming for an hour.
Jun 13, 2021 · Melanie MccannAbsolutely gorgeous beach, white sand, and very clean. The water was blackish, brown but it's normal at this time of year.
Aug 08, 2023 · Nick MooreThis place is amazingly beautiful. It’s exactly what I wanted. Water isn’t drinkable and the bathroom aren’t in the best condition, but it is expected. We went during a cold front, so there was no bugs at all. We brought plenty of fire wood as the tenant suggested. So come prepare for your trip.
Dec 22, 2020 · Patricio Medina (Pico)Your experience here will b directly related to how crowded it gets and with what kind of people. Fortunately, for as crowded as it got Friday, Saturday and Sunday, everyone was pretty chill. WE, TH and MO were great. I like the north end best.
