Suwannee Plantation Introduce
For local users in Old Town, Florida (zip code 32680) and the surrounding areas who are searching for "camping near me," Suwannee Plantation, located at U.S. 19 & Suwannee St, Old Town, FL, offers a unique opportunity for a riverside camping experience directly on the banks of the Suwannee River. Based on customer reviews, this campground is characterized by its tranquil atmosphere, direct river access, and helpful management. If you're seeking a peaceful natural retreat with the chance to fish right from your campsite, Suwannee Plantation might be an ideal choice, keeping in mind its specific amenities.
Environment: Suwannee Plantation's most significant environmental feature is its location directly on the Suwannee River. The Suwannee River is a historic and scenic waterway that flows through North Florida, known for its dark, tannin-rich waters, diverse wildlife, and lush riverbanks. Camping right on the river offers an immersive natural experience, with opportunities to enjoy the sights and sounds of the flowing water, observe local flora and fauna, and potentially engage in river-based activities. The area around Old Town is typically characterized by a mix of forests, wetlands, and the riverine environment, providing a natural and potentially shaded camping setting. The reviews emphasize the quiet nature of the location, suggesting a peaceful escape from more crowded areas.
Services and Features: Based on the available customer reviews, Suwannee Plantation appears to be a more rustic campground with a focus on the natural environment and a relaxed atmosphere. The reviews explicitly mention the following:
- Riverside Camping: A primary feature is the direct access to the Suwannee River. Campers can set up their tents very close to the riverbank, allowing for immediate enjoyment of the water and the surrounding scenery.
- Fishing from Campsite: One reviewer notes the ability to "throw a line out from your tent," highlighting the convenience for anglers who can fish directly from their camping spot.
- Campfires Allowed: The allowance of campfires adds to the traditional camping experience, providing a gathering place for warmth, cooking, and enjoying the outdoors in the evening.
- Helpful Management: Both reviews commend the person running the campground, with one describing him as "top notch" and willing to help in any way possible. Another review mentions Alvin and Ken as "super nice people," indicating friendly and accommodating hosts.
- Quiet and Relaxing Atmosphere: The campground is described as a "quiet place" and a good destination to "go and relax," making it appealing for those seeking a peaceful getaway.
- No Hookups or Dump Station: It is explicitly mentioned that there are no hookups or a dump station available at Suwannee Plantation. This is crucial information for RV owners and indicates that the campground likely caters more to tent campers or RVers who are self-contained and do not require these services.
Given the limited amenities mentioned, it's likely that Suwannee Plantation offers a more primitive or semi-primitive camping experience. Campers should be prepared to be self-sufficient in terms of power, water, and waste disposal. Basic amenities such as portable toilets and possibly a communal water source might be available, but this is not explicitly stated in the reviews. The focus seems to be on the natural setting and the direct access to the river, appealing to those who prioritize these aspects over extensive facilities.
Promotional Information and Local Attractions: Suwannee Plantation's primary promotion seems to be its unique location right on the Suwannee River and the peaceful atmosphere it offers. The positive reviews, emphasizing the helpfulness of the management and the relaxing environment, serve as strong word-of-mouth recommendations for local users seeking a "camping near me" experience focused on nature and tranquility.
For local residents of Old Town and the surrounding areas (zip code 32680), Suwannee Plantation provides convenient access to the natural beauty and recreational opportunities associated with the Suwannee River:

Suwannee Plantation Reviews
Great place to spend some time. Right on the river. Throw a line out from your tent if you like. The guy running the place is top notch! Helped us in any way he could. The bridge is high! Don't jump off of it! 😂
