Based on enthusiastic reviews from visitors, Skip A Way Campground & Resort appears to be more than just a typical campground; it's a destination packed with activities and conveniences. One reviewer who frequented the resort with children, even without using the RV park, highlighted the appeal of the "little beach" and the water park area. The presence of nearby tables with umbrellas makes it convenient for families to bring their own picnics and enjoy a day out. The cleanliness of the area, maintained by both visitors and likely the staff, is also noted as a positive aspect.
While swimming in the pond on the property isn't allowed, the Turkey River, with a canoe and inner tube rental place within walking distance, offers opportunities for water-based recreation. Additionally, a nice picnic spot is also within walking distance, providing further options for enjoying the outdoors. For those with an interest in geology and paleontology, the area around the Turkey River is noted as being rich in fossils, agate, and jasper. One lucky visitor even found the skeletonized remains of a hawk or falcon. Given Iowa's status as the "Geode State," rock hounds might also have a chance of finding geodes, although they are reportedly less common here than near Keokuk.

Families with children will be delighted to know that there is a splash pad operating on the weekends. For swimming and water activities, there's a beach, and the lake is available for kayaking and paddleboarding, with rentals conveniently offered on-site.
One reviewer recounted their experience during an "AMAZING 4TH OF JULY weekend," which included fireworks, live music, food, and special festive drinks. The provision of a shuttle service for those who might have overindulged in the celebrations indicates a thoughtful approach to guest safety and enjoyment. This suggests that Skip A Way Campground & Resort hosts special events that can enhance the camping experience.

Skip A Way Campground & Resort Reviews
Okay, I haven’t used the RV park. We’ve gone here many times with our children to play on the little beach and in the water park area. There are tables with umbrellas nearby. We bring our own picnic and toys. From what I’ve seen , the visitors (and probably staff, too) keep the area nice and clean. You can’t swim in the pond, but there’s a canoe/inner tube rental place within walking distance in the Turkey River. It’s also close to a nice picnic spot, also within walking distance. Depending on the season, rock hounds will be happy pretty much all along the river. My grandson found the skeletonized head and upper body of a hawk or falcon there. The entire area is great for fossils. There’s also a lot of agate and jasper. Further, Iowa is the Geode State; there are less here than near Keokuk, but you might get lucky
May 26, 2024 · D Leah LedermanI absolutely love this campgrpund. I travel for work, so I have been staying here for a while already, and this campground makes me want to move this way permanently just to utilize it!They have showers, bathrooms, laundry rooms, a bar and grill open on the weekends, and cheap wood for sale (a wheelbarrow full for 7$!!). They have a splash pad on the weekends for the kiddos, a beach to swim, and the lake to kayak or paddleboard (oh yeah, they rent those too!!)I was here for their AMAZING 4TH OF JULY weekend, with fireworks, live music, food and boozy pineapples, hello shots, and a shuttle if you didn't want to walk, but could not drive 😋 😉I just absolutely love the environment. The owners are great. Nothing but wonderful things about this place. Stay here! You won't regret it! They have permanent spots, too, if you wanna park your camper for good!!
Jul 15, 2023 · Lacey BaileyOur kids had a great time on the playground. The hot water in the showers was plentiful as well. There were undoubtedly many more things to do, such as spending time at the spotless beach. This campground has everything we could possibly need, which is great! a good location for camping.
Sep 21, 2022 · Jane WayansVery well taken care of. Hardly any mosquitoes, nice showers (at the main building, didn’t check out the other showers), lots to do. A nice, family-friendly place. However, I would not recommend it for tent campers. The nearest bathrooms are long way away from the tent sites. It feels like a mile long walk when you wake up at 5AM with an urgent need to go! The tent sites are on the main road, so lots of traffic. They are located under a large, LED street light. We also had to purchase fire wood from the campground — they do not allow you to use your own due to the ashborne bug. Understandable.Lastly, we chose this site because they offer a shuttle service to haul our canoe/kayak up the Turkey River so we could float back down to camp. Asked for a 5-6 hour float, but it ended up only being about 3 hours. We understand that different variables affect the time it takes to float the river, but we thought they would be more familiar with the different access points and timing from each one. We still appreciated the shuttle service.Overall, it was a very nice place to stay. We enjoyed our time!
Jul 28, 2019 · MirandaWe had a blast! Camper was clean and ready to go- fully loaded. Staff was very friendly. They checked in on us to make sure everything was good. There was lots of entertainment. Beach was awesome. They even had a Bloody Mary cart driving around campground delivering drinks! Permanent campers were friendly and inviting. Very quiet campground. We had so much fun we reserved it again for a few more weekends.
