If you're searching for "camping near me" and dreaming of a tranquil escape in the heart of the Catskill Mountains, Sleepy Hollow Campground, located at 5636 NY-28, Phoenicia, NY 12464, USA, might be the perfect destination. Situated on the picturesque bank of the renowned Esopus Creek and just a short one-mile distance from the charming and peaceful town of Phoenicia, this campground offers a unique oasis for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. You can reach them at (845) 688-5471 or their mobile number +1 845-688-5471 for inquiries and reservations.
An Immaculate Riverside Setting
Sleepy Hollow Campground is consistently praised for its exceptional maintenance and cleanliness. According to visitor reviews, the campground is always kept immaculate, and the bathrooms are described as spotless, with frequent attention throughout the day. This dedication to cleanliness ensures a comfortable and pleasant experience for all campers, allowing you to focus on enjoying the natural surroundings without concerns about hygiene.
The campground's prime location along the Esopus Creek offers a unique advantage. The creek is highlighted as a fantastic spot for trout fishing, attracting anglers looking to cast their lines in its flowing waters. Additionally, when the water level is sufficient, the creek becomes a natural swimming hole, providing a refreshing way to cool off during the warmer months. The availability of riverside sites allows campers to fully immerse themselves in the soothing sounds and scenic views of the Esopus Creek.
Variety of Campsite Options
Sleepy Hollow Campground caters to a diverse range of camping preferences with its various site options. They offer seasonal sites for those looking for a longer-term getaway, group sites ideal for families or friends camping together, and highly sought-after available riverside sites that provide direct access and stunning views of the Esopus Creek. This variety ensures that whether you're planning a weekend escape, a longer seasonal stay, or a group adventure, Sleepy Hollow Campground has an option to suit your needs.
Friendly and Accommodating Hosts
Positive feedback consistently mentions the friendly and accommodating nature of the campground owners, Wyatt and his wife. Visitors have described them as always willing to assist with requests and needs, contributing to a welcoming and supportive atmosphere throughout the campground. This personal touch and dedication to guest satisfaction can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, making you feel like a valued guest.
Seasonal Operation and Local Regulations
One aspect to note is that Sleepy Hollow Campground is not open year-round. According to a reviewer, this seasonal operation is due to state and local regulations. While some visitors express a wish for year-round availability, the closure also allows the owners to take a break after the busy summer season. It's advisable to check the campground's operating dates when planning your trip.
A Place for Generations to Enjoy
One heartfelt review mentions a camper who has enjoyed Sleepy Hollow Campground with their children and looks forward to bringing their grandchildren there in the future. This speaks volumes about the lasting appeal and family-friendly nature of the campground, suggesting it's a place where cherished memories can be made across generations.
Important Consideration Regarding Policies
It is important to acknowledge a concerning negative review detailing a difficult experience. This review describes a situation where a camper with tire problems, who had extended their stay and was working remotely, was asked to leave the campground. The reviewer recounts being instructed not to sleep in their converter at night, regardless of safety concerns, weather, or personal circumstances, ultimately leading to a forced departure and significant damage to their vehicle. This account raises serious questions about the campground's policies and how they are applied in specific situations, particularly concerning guest welfare and accommodation during unforeseen circumstances.
While this negative review presents a stark contrast to the positive experiences shared by others regarding cleanliness and host friendliness, it is crucial to consider all available information when making a decision. Potential visitors may want to inquire directly with the campground about their policies regarding extended stays, vehicle issues, and accommodations in unexpected situations to ensure clarity and peace of mind.
Exploring the Charm of Phoenicia and the Surrounding Area
The location of Sleepy Hollow Campground offers the added benefit of being just one mile from the "quaint and quiet little town" of Phoenicia. This proximity allows campers to easily explore the town's local shops, restaurants, and attractions. Phoenicia itself is known for its charming atmosphere and access to the natural beauty of the Catskill region.
Beyond Phoenicia, the area offers numerous opportunities for outdoor adventure, including hiking trails, scenic drives, and other attractions within the Catskill Mountains. The Esopus Creek is also a popular destination for tubing and other water-based activities in the surrounding areas.
Promotional Information and Why Choose Sleepy Hollow Campground
Sleepy Hollow Campground presents itself as an "oasis" for those seeking a clean, well-maintained, and naturally beautiful camping experience along the Esopus Creek. If "camping near me" with access to fishing and swimming in a pristine river is high on your list, this campground offers a significant draw. The availability of different campsite types, including riverside options, caters to various camping needs. Sleepy Hollow Campground Reviews
We camped here for 2 seasons. The campground is always kept immaculate, bathrooms are always spotless and attended to often during the day. Wyatt and his wife were always friendly and accommodating to all our requests and need for assistance.Nestled on the bank of the Esopus Creek and just 1 mile from the quaint and quiet little town of Phoenicia. This campground is like an oasis. There are seasonal sites, group sites, and available riverside sites. The creek is a great spot for trout fishing and swimming when the water is high enough (which is often). The only thing I would change, is for them to be open all year round. But due to state and local regulations they can't. Also everyone needs a break after a busy summer season at Sleepy Hollow. I look forward to the day I can bring my grandkids there to enjoy what I and my children enjoyed.
Jan 03, 2025 · JohnWas there, extended, due to tire problems, while working on that, Wyatt made me leave campground. In converter, Wyatt insisted must sleep outside, at night, irregardless of bears, (just came from a place with a rattlesnake at site), weather, personal preference or threat or recovering from injuries. Attempts were made to reason with Wyatt and Wanda, this forced leaving, at a paid site, and a local for 40 years, neat, clean, organized, working remotely on huge issues, this action caused impedment of reunification with my children, caused such significant damage to my suv, in addition to towings, the suv was totaled. Lost all electrical, no ac/no heat, all blew out from forced "leave now". And a local for 40 years, do the math on age, and injuries, causing disability. So the "leave now" impeded an older, disabled, neat, clean, local (2 states) paying woman, from fixing the tire, to avoid issues. I'm sure an ADA advocate would see the multitude of issues here, at this flawed area.

What's wrong with y'all! In addition there are no cabins in this private campground.Security for campers and their belongings is paramount for all campground owners. If your visiting or exploring any private campground do it in a sensible hr and follow the signs to the office and introduce yourself. It's common sense.Take your loved ones, friends and family camping. Bring your fishing poles and water toys for the Esopus River. Perfect spot. But Please, don't forget your common sense. This review written by a camper and not in any form related to owner.
May 16, 2024 · Stephen JonesWe stayed for the first time and will definitely stay again. Owner is very nice and our site was perfect. We stayed right on the steam so peaceful and relaxing. Bathrooms and showers are super clean
Jul 18, 2024 · Jackie HintzI had a seasonal site for two summers and this was probably the best campground I have ever stayed at. Ken the owner, was always super helpful and his family was always willing to help out with anything you needed. I has a riverfront site (28) and it was so peaceful. The campground is located directly across the street from the Phoenicia diner and only two minutes to the quaint hamlet of Phoenicia. Bathrooms were always clean and comfortable to use. I'm a full timer now and look forward to spending a summer there again.
