Solomon Islands Camp Ground E Introduce
If you're a local resident in Maryland searching for "camping near me" and considering a getaway in the scenic Solomons area, Solomon Islands Camp Ground E, situated at the location identified as 8GPJ+RQ, Solomons, MD 20688, USA, offers a range of camping and lodging options within a large military campground setting. While the specific details for "Campground Area E" are not explicitly outlined in the reviews, insights from a stay in "Campground Area A" and general comments provide a valuable overview of what you might expect.
One reviewer who stayed in Campground Area A, which appears to be part of the broader Solomon Islands Camp Ground, highlighted several positive aspects. For those looking for RV or potentially well-spaced tent camping with basic utilities, Area A offered "only electric and water hookups." This suggests that at least some areas of the campground cater to RVs and campers needing these essential connections. A significant advantage noted was that "the sites were far enough apart that you didn't feel cramped in," indicating a spacious and potentially more private camping experience compared to more crowded campgrounds.
The natural environment and available activities seem to be key attractions of Solomon Islands Camp Ground. The reviewer mentioned the presence of "walking trails around the area," providing opportunities for leisurely strolls and enjoying the outdoors. The campground also boasts "beaches," although it's important to note that "no lifeguards" were present, so caution and supervision are necessary, especially for families with children. For those interested in water-based activities, the campground features "a fishing pier" and "boat ramps," making it an appealing destination for anglers and boaters looking to explore the waters around Solomons.
Beyond traditional campsites, Solomon Islands Camp Ground offers a variety of lodging options, indicating its capacity to accommodate different preferences and needs. The reviewer specifically mentioned "cabins, cottages, and yurts to rent," in addition to the standard camping areas. This diverse range of accommodations provides flexibility for those who prefer a more structured lodging experience while still enjoying the campground's amenities and location.
As it is described as "a large military campground," it's possible that certain regulations or access requirements might apply. Local users who are affiliated with the military or have access to military facilities may find this campground particularly convenient. However, it's advisable for all potential visitors to inquire about any specific rules or eligibility criteria when making reservations.
In terms of additional amenities, the campground includes "a swimming pool" and "picnic areas," further enhancing the recreational opportunities available to guests. The swimming pool offers a way to cool off and relax during warmer months, while the picnic areas provide designated spaces for outdoor meals and gatherings.
While the overall experience seems positive in terms of the environment and facilities, one significant point of concern was raised regarding the "lodging office staff." The reviewer recounted an unhelpful interaction with a clerk during check-in. The clerk reportedly "didn't help mark out the best route" to their site, simply handing over a map and offering minimal assistance with navigation. This was particularly problematic because "the campground is separated into several different areas and the roads are maze like." The reviewer described the staff member as "not very friendly at all," highlighting a potential area for improvement in customer service at the lodging office.
Despite this negative interaction with the office staff, the location of Solomon Islands Camp Ground offers additional benefits. The "Solomons town is just down the road," providing easy access to local attractions, restaurants, and shops. Furthermore, the "Naval Air Station is 20-30 minutes across the bridge," and the area around the base offers "a lot of shopping and eating establishments." For those interested in history and naval heritage, there is also a "Naval museum" located nearby, which the reviewer found "interesting." This proximity to both the charming town of Solomons and the amenities around the Naval Air Station adds to the overall appeal of the campground's location.
Another reviewer offered a concise but positive comment, describing the area as an "excellent place to enjoy a walk and breathe the pure air of the place as well as the restaurants and complete security where you can walk calmly and without problems." This reinforces the idea that the location offers a pleasant environment for outdoor activities and a sense of safety for visitors exploring the grounds and surrounding areas.
Given the information available, Solomon Islands Camp Ground E (part of the larger Solomon Islands Camp Ground) appears to be a spacious campground with a variety of camping and lodging options, including sites with electric and water hookups, cabins, cottages, and yurts. Its features include walking trails, beaches (unsupervised), a fishing pier, boat ramps, a swimming pool, and picnic areas. While the natural environment and recreational opportunities seem appealing, potential visitors should be aware of a reported issue with the friendliness and helpfulness of the lodging office staff, particularly regarding navigation within the campground. The proximity to Solomons town and the Naval Air Station area offers additional conveniences and attractions.
For local users considering "camping near me" at Solomon Islands Camp Ground E, it would be advisable to contact the campground directly to inquire about specific details for Area E, including the types of hookups available, site amenities, reservation procedures, and any specific rules or regulations for this military campground. Additionally, it might be helpful to ask for detailed directions or a marked map upon check-in to navigate the different areas of the campground effectively. Despite the reported issue with the office staff, the positive aspects of the location, facilities, and spaciousness could make Solomon Islands Camp Ground E a worthwhile option for a local camping getaway.
