South Holiday Park Introduce
For local users in the Fort Worth area searching for 'camping near me,' South Holiday Park, located at 6000 Pearl Ranch Rd, Fort Worth, TX 76126, USA, and reachable at (817) 292-2400 or +1 817-292-2400, presents a camping option with notable strengths in its natural environment and site spacing, but significant drawbacks in essential amenities and maintenance, according to recent customer reviews.
Exceptional Natural Environment and Great Views:
One reviewer praised the "great views" and "exceptional nature" at South Holiday Park. This suggests that the campground is situated in a location with appealing natural scenery, which could be a significant draw for local users seeking an escape into nature. The specific aspects of the natural environment that make it exceptional are not detailed, but it implies a setting that allows for appreciation of the outdoors, potentially including wildlife, interesting landscapes, or scenic overlooks. For those prioritizing immersion in nature and beautiful views when looking for 'camping near me,' South Holiday Park appears to offer these qualities.
Spacious Campsites and Good Connectivity:
Another positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the "very good" site spacing. This indicates that the campsites are well-separated, offering campers a greater sense of privacy and space compared to more crowded campgrounds. This can enhance the overall camping experience, allowing for more room to set up and enjoy the surroundings without feeling cramped. Additionally, one reviewer noted "5g excellent," suggesting that the park offers good cellular connectivity, which can be important for those who need to stay connected or rely on internet access during their camping trip.
The same reviewer also mentioned "Electric: very good," implying that the electrical hookups available at some or all campsites are reliable. This is a significant benefit for RV campers or those relying on electricity for their camping setup. However, this positive aspect is contrasted by a critical lack of other essential amenities.
Significant Deficiencies in Essential Amenities:
Despite the positives, the reviews also reveal critical shortcomings in essential camping amenities at South Holiday Park. One of the most significant issues raised is the complete lack of water ("Water: none") and showers ("Showers: none"). For any camping trip beyond a very basic overnight stay, the absence of potable water and shower facilities is a major inconvenience and a serious limitation. This lack of essential services significantly restricts the type of camping that is feasible and comfortable at South Holiday Park.
Furthermore, the description of the bathroom facilities is deeply concerning. One reviewer stated that the bathrooms were "distant and literally just a hole in the ground," while another described them as "not stocked" and reported finding "feces all over the toilet seat" in multiple toilets. These accounts paint a picture of extremely unsanitary and inadequate restroom facilities, which is a major deterrent for most campers when considering 'camping near me.' The stark contrast between the positive notes on nature and site spacing and the severely negative descriptions of the bathrooms creates a highly cautionary picture.
Maintenance and Cleanliness Concerns:
The negative review also raises concerns about the overall maintenance and cleanliness of the park. The reviewer, who described themselves as a first-time camper at this location but experienced with state parks in general, stated that South Holiday Park was the "nastiest State Park we have stayed at." The presence of trash and an abandoned sewer hose at the dump station, along with the unmowed and "rough and unkept" appearance of the grounds (except where "they had to" mow), suggests a lack of adequate maintenance and upkeep. This level of neglect can significantly detract from the enjoyment of the natural surroundings and raises questions about the overall management and care of the park.
The reviewer's surprise at the poor condition, given that "State Parks are usually the cleanest parks you can go to," underscores the severity of the issues reported at South Holiday Park. This suggests that the current state of maintenance and cleanliness may be below the standards typically expected of a state-run facility.
Promotional Information and Recommendations:
No promotional information is provided in the given text. Given the significant concerns raised in the customer reviews, particularly regarding the lack of water and showers, and the extremely poor condition of the bathroom facilities, local users searching for 'camping near me' should approach South Holiday Park with extreme caution. While the great views, exceptional nature, good site spacing, and potentially reliable electricity and 5G connectivity might be appealing to a specific type of camper (e.g., those with self-contained RVs who do not rely on park facilities), the lack of basic amenities and the reported unsanitary conditions are major drawbacks.
Local users considering South Holiday Park should be aware that this appears to be a very primitive camping experience with limited to no essential services. It may only be suitable for those who are fully self-sufficient and comfortable with very basic, potentially unsanitary, conditions. It is strongly recommended that potential visitors contact the park directly at (817) 292-2400 or +1 817-292-2400 to inquire about the current status of water availability, bathroom facilities, and overall maintenance before making any plans. It would also be prudent to seek more recent reviews from other sources to get a broader understanding of the current conditions.
A Balanced Overview for Local Campers:
For local users exploring 'camping near me' in Fort Worth, South Holiday Park offers the potential for beautiful natural surroundings, spacious campsites, and possibly good connectivity and electricity. However, these positives are overshadowed by significant negatives, including the lack of water and showers, and extremely poor and unsanitary bathroom facilities. The reported lack of general maintenance also raises concerns about the overall camping experience. Unless you are prepared for a very primitive camping experience with minimal to no amenities and potentially unpleasant conditions, South Holiday Park may not be a suitable choice. It is crucial to gather more up-to-date information and weigh the reported benefits against the significant drawbacks before deciding to camp here.

Nov 17, 2024 · Paul MccollumJust camped for the first time at this park. Hosts were very friendly. However, this is the nastiest State Park we have stayed at. The bathrooms were not stocked and many toilets had feces all over the toilet seat. Dump station had trash and an abandoned nasty sewer hose right on the site. They only mowed where they had to so looked rough and unkept. Def won’t be back. State Parks are usually the cleanest parks you can go to. Don’t know what the issue is with this one.
Apr 28, 2025 · Sheryl YoungThis is a lovely, well maintained campground with numerous wild life sightings. The Gate Attendants were extremely friendly and provided excellent information about the surrounding neighborhoods. If you enjoy daily walks there is an easy to medium walking trail through the wooded areas. I camp in this park whenever I come to visit family and will absolutely return on my next trip back.
Jan 22, 2024 · Maureen GaskinsCamp host is a Vietnam Veteran and wanted to welcome him home. Camp ground very clean and well maintained. The bathrooms and showers need upgrades badly! The photo is one of our neighbors. Loved the ambience but didn't love a spotlight pointed directly at our site.
