Sports Unlimited Campground Introduce
For local residents in and around Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, searching within the "camping near me" category for a campground with recreational amenities, Sports Unlimited Campground, located at 32750 Co Rd K, Prairie du Chien, WI 53821, presents a potential option. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground offers a mix of features, including a pool and an on-site restaurant, but also highlights some areas that may need attention, particularly regarding certain campsites during flooding conditions and the state of "weekender" sites.
Environment: Sports Unlimited Campground is located near Prairie du Chien, which lies in the scenic Driftless Area of Wisconsin, close to the Mississippi River. The environment of the campground is influenced by its proximity to the river, as indicated by the review mentioning Mississippi River flooding. This suggests that the campground might offer some sites with river access or views, although this can also pose challenges during high water levels. The presence of both "seasonal sites" and "weekender sites" implies a division within the campground, potentially with different environments or levels of upkeep. The seasonal sites are described as "beautiful but very tight," suggesting a well-maintained area that might prioritize a sense of community among longer-term residents, possibly with less space between individual sites. In contrast, the weekender sites are noted as being "in dire need of work," indicating a potentially less appealing or well-maintained environment in that section of the campground.
One reviewer mentioned that a nearby train did not bother them, suggesting the potential presence of railway tracks in the vicinity. While this was not a negative for that particular camper, it's something to be aware of for those sensitive to train noise.
Despite the proximity to the Mississippi River and the surrounding natural beauty of the Driftless Area, the immediate environment of some campsites, particularly the weekender sites during wet conditions, may detract from the overall experience. Prospective campers should inquire about the condition of their specific site, especially if there has been recent heavy rainfall or flooding in the region.
Services and Features: Based on the customer reviews, Sports Unlimited Campground offers a range of services and features, catering to different needs and preferences:
- Swimming Pool: A significant highlight is the presence of a "nice" and "so fun" pool, which is clearly a popular amenity among guests. One reviewer mentioned enjoying riding bikes with friends at the pool, suggesting a family-friendly and recreational atmosphere around this facility.
- Barn Restaurant: The on-site "Barn restaurant" is described as "fantastic," providing a convenient dining option for campers. This could be a major draw, offering a place to enjoy meals without having to leave the campground. The positive feedback suggests good quality food and service at the restaurant.
- Seasonal Sites: The availability of seasonal sites indicates that the campground caters to longer-term stays, potentially offering a more established community for those who reside there for an extended period. These sites are noted as being beautiful but tight.
- Weekender Sites: The campground also offers sites for shorter stays ("weekender sites"), but a reviewer noted that these are "in dire need of work," suggesting potential issues with the condition, such as uneven ground, poor drainage, or lack of maintenance.
- Reserved Campsites: The fact that a reviewer had three campsites reserved for four nights shows that the campground allows for reservations, which is crucial for planning a camping trip, especially during peak seasons.
While not explicitly mentioned in the reviews, typical campgrounds often provide other essential services and features, such as:
- Restroom Facilities: These could range from basic porta-potties to more permanent structures with flush toilets and showers. The cleanliness and availability of these facilities are not mentioned in the provided reviews.
- Water Hookups: Availability of water hookups at campsites might vary, with seasonal sites potentially having more comprehensive hookups than weekender sites.
- Electrical Hookups: Similar to water hookups, electrical service for RVs might be available at some or all sites.
- Sewer Hookups: Full hookup sites with sewer connections might be available, particularly in the seasonal area.
- Fire Pits or Rings: Designated areas for campfires at individual sites or communal areas.
- Picnic Tables: Likely provided at most campsites.
- Trash Disposal: Facilities for campers to dispose of their garbage.
- Potable Water Sources: Access to drinking water throughout the campground.
Prospective campers should inquire about the specific amenities available at the type of site they are interested in (weekender or seasonal, if applicable) when making a reservation.
Promotional Information: The provided information does not contain any specific promotional details such as discounts, seasonal rates, or special packages. For local users interested in camping at Sports Unlimited Campground, the best course of action would be to contact them directly using the provided phone numbers, (608) 326-2141 or +1 608-326-2141, to inquire about:
- Site Availability: Check the availability of both weekender and seasonal sites, specifying the dates of your intended stay.
- Rates: Inquire about the cost per night for different types of campsites.
- Condition of Weekender Sites: Given the negative review, it would be prudent to ask about the current condition of the weekender sites, especially if there has been recent flooding.
- Amenities at Specific Sites: Clarify what hookups (water, electric, sewer) are available at the sites you are considering.
- Pool Hours and Rules: If the pool is a primary reason for your visit, confirm its operating hours and any rules for use.
- Restaurant Hours and Menu: If you plan to dine at the Barn restaurant, inquire about its hours of operation and the type of food offered.
- Seasonal Offers or Discounts: Ask if there are any special rates or discounts available during your intended travel dates.
- Reservation Policies: Understand the campground's reservation and cancellation policies.
Given the feedback about the flooding affecting campsites, it would also be wise to inquire about the campground's policies regarding cancellations or refunds due to adverse weather conditions or site unavailability.
Recommendations for Local Users: For those in the Prairie du Chien area searching for "camping near me" with a desire for a pool and on-site dining, Sports Unlimited Campground offers these appealing features. The "fantastic" Barn restaurant and the "fun" pool are definite positives highlighted by reviewers. However, potential campers should be aware of the reported issues with the weekender sites, particularly regarding wet conditions due to Mississippi River flooding and the general need for maintenance. If considering a weekender site, it is strongly recommended to inquire about the current condition and request a site that is well-drained and comfortable. The seasonal sites are described as beautiful but tight, which might be a consideration for those seeking more spacious accommodations. Contacting the campground directly is crucial to get the most up-to-date information on site availability, conditions, rates, and amenities to ensure a satisfactory camping experience.
In conclusion, Sports Unlimited Campground near Prairie du Chien offers a mix of recreational amenities, including a pool and a well-regarded restaurant, making it a potentially attractive option for local campers. However, the condition of the weekender campsites, especially in relation to flooding, is a concern raised by a reviewer. Prospective guests should carefully consider their needs and preferences, inquire specifically about the type of site they are booking and its current condition, and gather all necessary information by contacting the campground directly to make an informed decision about their "camping near me" experience.

Sports Unlimited Campground Reviews
We had 3 campsites reserved for 4 nights. Granted, the Mississippi was flooding. Our reservations should have been canceled by the campground. Our site was so wet we couldn't sit or be by it at all. The weekender sites r in dire need of work. The seasonal sites are beautiful but very tight. Train didn't bother us at all and the Barn restaurant was fantastic. Pool was nice also. Need to fix and spend some $$ on the weekender sites.

May 04, 2025 · Greyson HannaI was alerted by office staff and explained that there was a mouse problem in the caboose and they had been working on it. We stayed the three days scheduled. Bunk bed had mouse droppings as did the towels in the bathroom. Lots of mouse droppings in the window ails. The came in to clean and washed the towels. Would have expected a partial refund or something. Was told there manager would call. Still waiting. Really disappointed!!
Jul 18, 2024 · Kimberly Van HoofHad a nice weekend getaway with friends. Sites had full hookup. Bathhouse was REALLY nice, hot water and clean. Yes, there is a train and it is clearly visible on the map when picking your site. The kids thought it was cool. Bring ear plugs. Plenty of room to keep a boat there for the weekend and the launch was right across the road, very handy. The sites are all gravel without any grass which was not great but I understand the reasoning behind it. We had a camping rug thing so we survived. Seasonal sites have grass but no one is pulling heavy campers in and out of those every couple of days. Dog friendly. Nice pool, playground, and volleyball/basketball courts. We didn't have a problem with loud people. Everyone respected the quiet time. We will be visiting again!
May 31, 2022 · Chelsea LeeThis is a campground NOT A HOTEL. The sites were packed gravel firm and level. The sites have water , sewer and electrical hookups. There is a train track that passes by but the noise is not that bad and does not last to long. There is a pool and a golf course on site. We will be making plans for next year to stay there.
