You can reach them at (417) 276-5329 or their mobile number, +1 417-276-5329, for inquiries about reservations and availability. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground within Stockton State Park provides access to excellent trails for hiking and mountain biking, decent phone reception, and a generally clean camping area. However, potential visitors should also be aware of some noted drawbacks, such as the lack of Wi-Fi and occasional issues with inconsiderate pet owners.
The environment surrounding Stockton State Park Campground #1 is undoubtedly a major draw for outdoor enthusiasts. The campground is described as having "connector trails leading to the big trails for mountain biking and hiking," making it an ideal basecamp for those looking to explore the extensive trail system within Stockton State Park. This provides local users with convenient access to invigorating outdoor activities right from their campsite. The proximity to Stockton Lake also suggests opportunities for water-based recreation, although this is not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews for Campground #1 itself. The overall camping area is noted as "very enjoyable" and "very clean," indicating that the park management takes efforts to maintain a pleasant environment for campers.
In terms of services and features, the reviews offer a mixed perspective. One positive aspect mentioned is "decent phone reception," which can be important for staying connected, especially in areas where cellular service can be unreliable. However, a significant drawback noted by a reviewer is the absence of Wi-Fi ("No wifi"). This is a point to consider for those who need or prefer internet access during their camping trips. The availability of other standard campground amenities, such as restrooms, water sources, and potentially picnic tables or fire rings, is not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, so it would be prudent for local users to inquire about these when making reservations.
One reviewer pointed out that there isn't "too much shade" at the campsites, which might be a consideration during the hot summer months for those camping in tents. However, they also noted that "if you're in a camper with air it's not an issue," suggesting that RV campers might be less affected by the lack of shade. This highlights the importance of considering the type of camping you plan to do when choosing a site at Campground #1.
A social aspect mentioned in one review is that "for the most part people are pretty friendly and they will at least wave at you," which contributes to a welcoming community atmosphere within the campground. The reviewer contrasted this positively with other parks where people might not acknowledge each other, suggesting a more sociable environment at Stockton State Park Campground #1.
However, one significant negative experience reported by a reviewer concerns inconsiderate pet owners not cleaning up after their dogs, resulting in unpleasant conditions ("waking up to the fragrance of dog crap"). This is an important issue for potential visitors to be aware of, as it can detract from the overall enjoyment and cleanliness of the campground. While this is not a fault of the park management itself, it reflects the behavior of some campers and can impact the experience of others.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. As a state park campground, pricing is typically standardized and available on the Missouri State Parks website or when making reservations. Local users might want to check the official Missouri State Parks website for any current promotions, discounts for Missouri residents, or information about park entry fees that might apply in addition to camping fees. Booking in advance is generally recommended for state park campgrounds, especially during peak seasons and weekends, to secure a site.
In conclusion, Stockton State Park Campground #1 offers local residents a "camping near me" option with excellent access to hiking and mountain biking trails and decent phone reception within the scenic surroundings of Stockton Lake. The campground is generally clean and enjoys a friendly atmosphere among campers. However, potential visitors should be aware of the lack of Wi-Fi and the potential for issues with inconsiderate pet owners. Tent campers might also need to consider the limited shade at some sites. For those prioritizing outdoor activities and a generally clean environment, Stockton State Park Campground #1 provides a convenient and enjoyable base for exploring the natural beauty of the area. It is recommended to contact the park directly or visit the Missouri State Parks website for the most up-to-date information on amenities, fees, and reservations.

Nice campground with connector trails leading to the big trails for mountain biking and hiking. Decent phone reception.
Mar 25, 2025 · matt fisherThe park is fantastic some of the campers aren't. There's nothing like waking up to the fragrance of dog crap. I don't have animals and I'm not picking up after lazy people that do have them. This is the twenty first century lazy we have plastic AND trash cans. No wifi. Very enjoyable camp area though. Very clean. Not to much shade but if you're in a camper with air it's not an issue. For the most part people are pretty friendly and they will at least wave at you. Other parks I've been to people won't even acknowledge one another kinda scary in my opinion.
Aug 24, 2024 · Sweet PatiteBeautiful campground, quiet, and very clean on a Thursday night stay. Restroom and showers were spotless and like new. They also have cabins. Stayed only one night on way to final destination. Would like to return for a longer stay. We stayed on west side loop. Could not find any water hydrants in RV camping area even though map says there are a couple. Water available at shower house.
Apr 06, 2024 · Patti KellClean bathrooms. Campsites on outer edge have lots of shade. We had power. The water is shared so not at each site. I had Verizon cell service. We did the kayak trail. It was neat to see mile markers on the shore. The beach is nice.
