This is possibly my favorite Missouri State Park, but the winter rates are still higher than they should be, in my opinion. Both camping loops have beautiful spacious campsites with lake access. During the winter months, there are no showers available, and campsites with electric are $14.00. ( which is only slightly less than prices during the regular season when water & showers are available). If you need a campsite with electricity in this area during the months of December, January, or February.. this is your cheapest option, and it really is a beautiful campground on a beautiful part of the lake.I believe the website says reservations required, but I went without a reservation, drove through both loops, picked out my campsite ( no one else was there other than the campground host ), and then paid online. There are signs posted saying you can call, pay online, or pay the camp host. It was very easy and, to my surprise, no reservation fee. $14.00 ( $2 discount for disabled )I loved the easy walk to the lake and how the campsites were staggered and spaced apart. The hiking trails were nicely manicured as well.My only complaint is the price. $14.00 ..The Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Stockton Lake only charge $10 ( $5 with the America the beautiful pass) for campsites with electric during the off-season .. unfortunately, though, they do not offer campsites with electric in December or January. It's just hard to go from paying $5 per night to $14 .. when the amenities are the same. It would be nice if the showers were available at the State Park in the winter.. perhaps more people would be able to winter in Missouri and would stay at the state park if water or showers were available. It would also justify the price. .. in my opinion. Beautiful.. but needs showers all year or needs to make winter rates lower. - Rebecca Lents

Stockton State Park Campground/RV Introduce

For local users seeking "camping near me" in the vicinity of Stockton Lake, Missouri, the Stockton State Park Campground/RV offers a compelling option. Located in Madison Township, MO 65785, this state park campground is frequently praised for its beautiful and spacious campsites, many of which boast direct access to the picturesque Stockton Lake. Whether you prefer the convenience of RV camping or the more traditional tent camping experience, this campground caters to both, providing a gateway to the natural beauty of the area.

According to visitor reviews, Stockton State Park is considered a favorite among Missouri State Parks, largely due to its scenic location and well-maintained facilities. The campground features two distinct camping loops, both offering generously sized campsites that allow for comfortable setup and a sense of privacy. A significant highlight for many campers is the easy access to Stockton Lake from numerous campsites, providing opportunities for fishing, boating, and simply enjoying the waterfront. Additionally, visitors have commended the nicely manicured hiking trails within the park, suggesting that outdoor enthusiasts will find ample opportunities for exploration and enjoying the natural landscape.

However, it's important for potential visitors to be aware of seasonal variations in amenities and pricing. One reviewer noted that during the winter months (December, January, February), the showers within the campground are not available. Despite this reduction in amenities, the price for campsites with electric hookups remains at $14.00, which some visitors feel is only slightly less than the regular season rates when water and showers are provided. For those requiring electric hookups during the off-season in this area, Stockton State Park Campground/RV is mentioned as the cheapest option available. The reviewer also pointed out that while the park's website might indicate that reservations are required, their personal experience involved driving through both loops, selecting an unoccupied campsite (during a less busy time with only the campground host present), and then paying online. They also noted that signs at the campground indicate payment options include calling, paying online, or paying the camp host, and they were pleasantly surprised that no reservation fee was applied. A $2 discount is reportedly available for disabled campers.

A point of comparison raised by a visitor is the pricing of nearby Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Stockton Lake, which reportedly charge $10 ($5 with the America the Beautiful pass) for campsites with electric during the off-season. However, these Corps of Engineers campgrounds apparently do not offer electric campsites during December and January. This price difference, coupled with the lack of showers at the state park during winter, led one reviewer to suggest either lowering the winter rates or providing year-round shower facilities to better justify the cost and potentially attract more winter campers to the state park.

For those interested in a more rustic experience, Stockton State Park Campground/RV also offers walk-in camping options. There are reportedly five walk-in campsites available, which require a short walk from the parking area to the site. While a few wheelbarrows were mentioned as being available, one visitor noted that they were not accessible upon their arrival. The walk-in path is described as adequate but slopes downhill to all sites, which might require a bit more effort when packing up to leave. Specific details were provided about the layout of the walk-in sites. Sites 1, 3, and 5 are connected by a golf cart path, offering decent privacy while still being close enough for communication between them, potentially making them suitable for groups of family or friends camping together. These three sites primarily face east, with site #5 offering a more expansive view of the water due to its location on a tip. Sites 2 and 4 are described as not being connected to any other site and are located more to the north.

All walk-in campsites feature a designated level square area for tents, a picnic table with a post and hooks for hanging items, and a fire ring. The amount of shade varies between the sites. Importantly, each walk-in site has its own private path leading down to the water. For basic amenities, there is an outhouse located near the parking area for the walk-in sites, and a water spigot is available across the camping street where the RV sites are located, with a designated sidewalk leading to it. The camp hosts, identified as Susan and Nahiya (spelling uncertain), were mentioned as being very nice by one visitor who stayed at walk-in site #1 and enjoyed the trails and beautiful sunrises. Photos shared by this visitor were taken from walk-in site #1, showcasing the scenic environment.

In summary, Stockton State Park Campground/RV presents a beautiful lakeside camping destination for local users. It offers spacious campsites suitable for both RVs and tents, with many providing easy access to Stockton Lake. The park boasts well-maintained hiking trails and generally positive feedback regarding the scenic environment. However, potential visitors should be aware of the seasonal limitations, particularly the lack of showers during the winter months, and consider the pricing in comparison to nearby alternatives. The walk-in camping area provides a more secluded option with direct water access, although the sloping paths might require extra effort. It is advisable for those planning a visit to check the official Missouri State Parks website for the most current information on reservations, rates, and amenities, and to consider the experiences shared by previous visitors to make an informed decision based on their individual needs and preferences for "camping near me."
