Sundew Campground Introduce
For local campers seeking a meticulously maintained and welcoming "camping near me" experience in Northern California, Sundew Campground, located on Bucklin Rd in Meadow Valley, CA 95956, stands out based on glowing customer reviews. This campground is repeatedly praised for its exceptional cleanliness, friendly and hardworking camp hosts, and lovely environment, making it a highly recommended destination for those looking to escape into nature. For individuals and families browsing the "camping near me" category, Sundew Campground offers a compelling combination of natural beauty and attentive management.
The environment surrounding Sundew Campground, while having experienced some impact from a fire, still retains significant natural beauty. One reviewer notes that "The area around the campground is burned, sadly. But the campground itself is lovely and has beautiful (unburned) trees!" This suggests a contrast between the recovering landscape in the broader area and the well-preserved and appealing environment within the campground itself. The presence of "beautiful (unburned) trees" indicates that campers can still enjoy the shade and aesthetic benefits of a forested setting within the campground, despite the surrounding changes.
A standout feature of Sundew Campground is the exceptional level of cleanliness and maintenance. One reviewer exclaims, "This is the cleanest I have ever seen this campground and they even rake before people check in." This level of attention to detail, including raking campsites before new arrivals, demonstrates a commitment to providing a pleasant and well-cared-for environment for campers. Additionally, the "grounds bushes have been trimmed up nicely as well," indicating ongoing efforts to maintain the overall appearance and usability of the campground.
The cleanliness extends to the facilities, with reviewers noting that "The restrooms were clean." While one comment mentions "the smell of pine helps to mask the sewage," this suggests that while there might be typical campground odors, the cleanliness is still commendable, and the natural surroundings contribute to mitigating any potential unpleasantness. This focus on hygiene is a significant plus for many campers when considering "camping near me" options.
Another highly praised aspect of Sundew Campground is the exceptional quality of the camp hosts. Reviewers consistently highlight their friendliness, helpfulness, and hard work. Comments like "The camp hosts were the absolute best! Thank you Mike and Jeni for a great experience! So nice and helpful and hard working. Best place to camp 100%!" and "Really love this year's camp host. She is absolutely lovely, and welcomes you with such a big smile!" underscore the positive impact of the campground staff on the overall visitor experience. Friendly and helpful hosts can provide valuable information, assistance, and create a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for all campers.
Sundew Campground also offers the appealing feature of "sites on the water." This suggests that some campsites are located adjacent to a body of water, potentially offering scenic views and easy access for water-related activities. However, one reviewer notes that these waterfront sites are "albeit on a slope." This is important information for local users to consider when choosing a campsite, as sloped sites might require more careful setup for tents or RVs and could impact accessibility. Despite this, the allure of camping directly by the water is a significant draw for many seeking a "camping near me" experience.
The positive and enthusiastic tone of the reviews, with one stating "Best place to camp 100%! Love this place!", serves as a strong endorsement for Sundew Campground. Such high praise from multiple visitors indicates a consistent level of satisfaction and suggests that the campground offers a high-quality camping experience that exceeds expectations.
While the provided information does not include specific details about the number of campsites, reservation procedures, or the availability of amenities such as water sources, fire pits, and picnic tables, the positive reviews suggest that the basic necessities are likely well-maintained and contribute to the overall positive experience. Local users interested in camping at Sundew Campground might want to seek additional information from online camping directories or local authorities to gather these details.
There is no explicit promotional information in the reviews. However, the recurring themes of exceptional cleanliness, outstanding camp hosts, and beautiful (despite some surrounding fire impact) environment act as strong implicit promotions for Sundew Campground. For local residents searching for a "camping near me" option where they can expect a well-cared-for site, friendly service, and a pleasant natural setting, Sundew Campground appears to be an excellent choice. The fact that visitors consistently rate it highly speaks volumes about the quality of the camping experience offered.
To obtain more specific information about Sundew Campground, such as the number of sites, availability, reservation policies, fees (if any), and the types of amenities offered, local users could try to find listings on popular camping websites or contact the local Meadow Valley or Plumas County authorities that manage campgrounds in the area. In conclusion, Sundew Campground near Meadow Valley, California, offers a highly recommended "camping near me" experience characterized by exceptional cleanliness, incredibly friendly and helpful camp hosts, and a lovely environment with beautiful unburned trees and waterfront campsites (some on a slope), despite some fire impact in the surrounding area. The consistently positive reviews highlight its commitment to maintenance and visitor satisfaction, making it a top choice for local campers seeking a well-cared-for and enjoyable outdoor getaway.

Jul 29, 2022 · SamanthaI visited Sundew Campground on 6-8-2019 to look for a place to tent camp later in the summer. Because of the late spring snow, the campground was not yet open for the season and no one was there. The one-way road loops through camp like a figure-eight. All campsites have a paved parking spur, but because the campground is nestled on a hillside, most are narrow and not level front to rear (I have a 19 ft. trailer and would probably not bring it here). The campsites by the water have some flat spaces, but at most sites I had to really look to find a clear, level area for setting a tent. The amenities are standard USFS: wooden tables, fire rings and “bear boxes” for food storage at each site. There are two concrete double restroom buildings for the camp and water faucets here and there along the road. There is a reserved space by the entrance for a camp host. All sites are first-come, first-served, with the “iron ranger” fee deposit pipe by the bulletin board. There are plenty of trees throughout the campground, but a lot of manzanita and buck brush in the northern part around the restroom that leaves me thinking that this section of the campground was never fully developed. Except for the view of the lake, I was not too impressed with Sundew. I give it a star for being on a lake, a star for the view and a star for looking clean.
