Sunrise Campgrounds Introduce
For local adventurers seeking a picturesque "camping near me" experience in Iowa, Sunrise Campgrounds, located at 1520 E Lakeshore Dr, Storm Lake, IA 50588, USA, offers a compelling option with its beautiful views of Storm Lake and convenient access to various recreational activities. Integrating seamlessly with platforms that list "camping near me," Sunrise Campgrounds provides a gateway to the natural beauty and aquatic adventures of the Storm Lake region. This introduction aims to provide a detailed and objective overview of the campground based on available customer reviews, highlighting its environment, services, and features to help local users make an informed decision.
The environment of Sunrise Campgrounds is a significant draw, with multiple reviewers emphasizing the "beautiful view of Storm Lake." This scenic backdrop provides a tranquil and visually appealing setting for a camping getaway. Waking up to the sight of the lake and enjoying sunsets over the water can greatly enhance the overall camping experience. The campground's location directly on East Lakeshore Drive ensures easy access to the lake and its surrounding attractions. While one reviewer mentioned the seasonal presence of cotton from cottonwood trees, describing it as feeling like "Christmas in July," this is a natural occurrence that may affect the ambiance during certain times of the year.
In terms of services and facilities, Sunrise Campgrounds appears to offer essential amenities for a comfortable stay. One reviewer specifically praised the "clean" campsites and the shower house, noting that it has "plenty of showers." This is an important aspect for campers looking for well-maintained hygiene facilities. Additionally, the presence of a "laundry room with a nice size table to fold your items" adds convenience, particularly for longer stays or for families needing to take care of laundry during their trip. The recent addition of gravel to the roads indicates ongoing maintenance efforts to improve the infrastructure of the campground.
The layout of the campsites at Sunrise Campgrounds includes both "pull through" and "back in only" options. This variety caters to different types of camping setups and preferences, accommodating both larger RVs that benefit from pull-through sites and other camping vehicles or tents that can utilize back-in sites. The clear marking of the sites and the presence of "small trees that will provide a bit of shade as they grow" suggest an organized and thoughtfully planned campground layout. While the trees are still young, they offer the promise of increased shade in the future, enhancing the comfort of the campsites.
A significant feature of Sunrise Campgrounds is its direct access to Storm Lake, which opens up a range of water-based recreational activities. The campground encourages visitors to "bring a boat, kayak, or paddle board and enjoy the water." This highlights the potential for boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding directly from the campground. For those interested in fishing, one reviewer noted that "the fishing was pretty good depending on what type of fish you like to catch," indicating that Storm Lake offers fishing opportunities for various species.
However, it is important to note a significant change reported by one reviewer: the removal of the playground equipment. The review expresses disappointment over this, stating that only a "sand area and a couple swings left, which were not even close to each other" remained. Furthermore, the area where the equipment was removed was reportedly not cleaned up and had "large holes that were dangerous for little kiddos." This is a crucial piece of information for families with young children who may prioritize playground facilities when choosing a campground. The absence of a well-maintained playground could be a significant drawback for this demographic.
On a more positive note, the existence of a "nice bath house" is mentioned, reinforcing the availability of clean and adequate restroom facilities. Additionally, the presence of a "bike path around the lake" is highlighted as a great amenity, offering opportunities for scenic bike rides and leisurely exploration of the Storm Lake shoreline. The beautiful views of the lake can be enjoyed not only from the campsites but also while utilizing the bike path.
It is also crucial to note a specific policy mentioned in one of the reviews regarding reservations: "Be sure you don't make a mistake when you make a reservation, you can't change it and get your money back." This strict cancellation or modification policy is important for potential campers to be aware of before booking. It underscores the need for careful planning and confirmation of dates before making a reservation at Sunrise Campgrounds.
In summary, Sunrise Campgrounds offers a compelling "camping near me" option for those seeking beautiful lake views and direct access to Storm Lake for boating, kayaking, and fishing. The campground provides clean campsites, a well-equipped shower house, and a convenient laundry room. The presence of both pull-through and back-in sites caters to different camping needs, and the ongoing infrastructure improvements, such as the addition of gravel to the roads, are positive signs. However, the removal of the playground equipment and the reported dangerous condition of that area are significant drawbacks for families with young children. Additionally, the strict reservation policy regarding changes and refunds is an important consideration for all potential campers. Despite these drawbacks, the scenic location, lake access, and essential amenities make Sunrise Campgrounds a noteworthy option for a lakeside camping experience in Iowa. Sunrise Campgrounds Reviews
Such a great campground! The view of Storm Lake is so beautiful, I'll add a few pictures, the sites are clean and shower house has plenty of showers, there is a laundry room with a nice size table to fold your items. The roads have recently had gravel added. The grass was mowed and sites marked clearly. There are small trees that will provide a bit of shade as they grow. Some sites are pull through and some are back in only. Sunrise is an overall nice place to camp. Bring a boat, kayak, or paddle board and enjoy the water. The fishing was pretty good depending on what type of fish you like to catch.

So disappointed they removed the playground equipment, there was only a sand area and a couple swings left, which were not even close to each other. Really felt like Christmas in July with all the cotton flying around from the cottonwood trees. There is a nice bath house, the bike path around the lake is great and the views are beautiful.
Aug 06, 2024 · Tracy TerryWe come here every year and this time was the worse we've ever experienced. Bathrooms were in terrible shape with mold growing along the floor/wall corners, floors were filthy with dirt, toilets stained from explosive diarrhea and sinks were gross. Having a toddler, I chose to use our camper for bathing instead. One host lives out of her van and acts like a dictator while others were MIA until the very busy weekend passed. The other hosts were a very elderly couple and a young family of 4 with toddler and a infant. Then they just sat around and did nothing, even allowing campers to leave because no one was willing to check them in. I entered the access code for the garbage hauler to get in while they sat at their campers and watched. The attached picture is the site(?) occupied by the host living in her van. It's right next to the bathrooms...funny she would go to sites and demand they police up theirs. I enjoy visiting Storm Lake and all there is to do, but I may look for a different campground on our next visit.
Jun 13, 2017 · David FrazierStayed there once yrs ago, the. A month or so back my sister and family booked a spot here. There's no wiggle room in between camp spots, nobody watches their children......kids peeling around on bikes in the road almost getting hot and no parents in site!Owners are a bit "grumpy" from what I hear and only perk is the beautiful scene across the street
Sep 13, 2023 · Kyrie' HarrisWorst camping spot we’ve ever been to. Other than the fact it is right across the street this place has no perks. We called days in advance for a spot and with us telling them we would be paying monthly also that we will have 2 vehicles and a slide on our camper, they got us a spot right away saying it was $750 a month. We get there the lady told us it’s $850 and we have to pay an additional $5.00 a NIGHT to park my car in the grass a good walking distance from the camper. So now we are at $950 a month instead of the original $750 agreed to. The woman also tells us the spot we got put in did not allow slides but that she would let it go for a while…other side notes with it being dog friendly ,that is great, but you will hear constant barking. The camping spots are very narrow to back up into which is funny because they are very strict about keeping off the grass and your water hookups will be 4 way hookups so don’t expect great water pressure when/if it ever becomes a popular place to stay.
