City Park Custodian / Riverview Campground Introduce
For local residents in and around Sac City, Iowa, seeking an affordable "camping near me" experience alongside a river, City Park Custodian / Riverview Campground, located at 104 Park Ave, offers a budget-friendly option. This campground, seemingly managed in conjunction with the city park, provides basic amenities at a low cost and boasts a picturesque riverside setting. However, potential visitors should be aware of certain limitations and mixed reviews regarding the facilities, particularly the washrooms.
When searching for "camping near me" on a budget, City Park Custodian / Riverview Campground stands out for its affordability. One reviewer explicitly states, "The campground itself is really cheap and pretty. For only 17 $ you get a nice spot at the river with electricity and water (didn't use the water)." This low price point makes it an attractive option for those looking for an economical camping experience. The inclusion of electricity at the campsites is a significant benefit, allowing campers to power devices and appliances. While one reviewer didn't utilize the water hookup, its presence suggests an additional convenience for campers.
The environment of the campground is a notable positive aspect. Situated alongside a river, the campground offers a scenic and potentially tranquil setting. The mention of a "great little roaring stream that's a pleasure to visit on the south side of the camp, just past the park" further highlights the natural beauty of the location and provides an opportunity for leisurely exploration and enjoyment of the water features. The sound of a nearby stream can also contribute to a relaxing and immersive camping experience. Another reviewer noted that "The night was absolutely quiet," indicating a peaceful atmosphere conducive to a good night's sleep.
The management of the campground appears to be a positive aspect as well. One visitor described the custodian as "friendly and easily accessible," suggesting that help and information are readily available if needed. This can contribute significantly to a positive camping experience, knowing that there is a helpful point of contact on-site. The well-kept nature of the grounds was also mentioned, with a reviewer stating, "Very nicely kept camp grounds." This indicates that the management takes pride in maintaining the area, contributing to a more pleasant stay for visitors.
However, potential campers should be aware of some significant drawbacks based on the reviews. The most prominent issue concerns the condition of the washroom facilities. One reviewer was quite critical, stating, "The washrooms aren't nice at all. The lights were off so you couldn't really use them at night. The showers were unusable, the water coming out was brown like rust. It's fine if things are basic for that price, but they should be clean and working." This feedback raises serious concerns about the functionality and cleanliness of the restroom and shower facilities. The lack of lighting at night and unusable, rusty water in the showers are significant detriments to the overall comfort and convenience of the campground. While the price is low, basic hygiene facilities are generally expected to be in working order.
Another negative experience reported by a reviewer involved "random people" driving through the park in the morning, causing dust to settle on their breakfast. This suggests a potential lack of clear boundaries or traffic control within the park area adjacent to the campground, which could be disruptive to campers seeking a peaceful morning. This issue occurred multiple times for the reviewer, indicating it might not be an isolated incident.
It is crucial for potential visitors to note two important policies mentioned in the reviews: "you can't make a reservation" and "You can only pay cash or with cheque." The lack of a reservation system means that campsites are likely available on a first-come, first-served basis. This requires campers to plan accordingly and be prepared for the possibility that a site might not be immediately available upon arrival, especially during peak seasons or weekends. The cash or cheque only payment policy is also an important consideration, as it means that credit or debit cards are not accepted. Campers will need to ensure they have sufficient cash or a chequebook with them to pay for their stay.
In summary, City Park Custodian / Riverview Campground in Sac City offers a very affordable "camping near me" option with the appealing feature of riverside campsites and the convenience of electricity hookups. The custodian is reported to be friendly, and the grounds are generally well-kept. The quiet nights are also a plus for those seeking a peaceful camping experience. However, potential visitors must be aware of the significant negative feedback regarding the condition of the washroom facilities, including lack of nighttime lighting and unusable, rusty showers. The potential for dust from park traffic in the morning is another factor to consider. Additionally, the campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with cash or cheque only payment.
For local users considering this campground, the low price and riverside location might be attractive, but it is essential to weigh these benefits against the reported issues with the washrooms and the lack of a reservation system. If basic and potentially non-functional hygiene facilities are a concern, or if having a guaranteed campsite is important, this might not be the ideal choice. However, for budget-conscious campers who prioritize a scenic location and are prepared for basic or potentially lacking amenities, City Park Custodian / Riverview Campground could be a viable option. It might be prudent to contact the provided phone number, (712) 662-4295 or +1 712-662-4295, to inquire about the current condition of the facilities and any other relevant information before planning a visit.
In conclusion, City Park Custodian / Riverview Campground in Sac City, Iowa, offers an inexpensive "camping near me" experience in a pretty riverside setting with electricity hookups. The friendly custodian and quiet nights are positives. However, the significantly negative reviews concerning the washroom facilities (lack of lighting and unusable showers) and the potential for dust from park traffic are important drawbacks to consider. The no-reservation and cash/cheque only policies are also key factors for potential campers to be aware of when planning their visit to this budget-friendly local campground.

Apr 22, 2024 · Johannes RolfReasonably quite, clean and very shady spot to throw a tent up. Clean bathhouse and showers. Stayed here 3 times so far while on cross country motorcycle trips and will again in the future
Sep 09, 2021 · Ken VentressJackie campground manager was quite helpful when our slide-out would not go in. Her friend Billy found the problem. A loose screw on slide out motor. Tightened screw. Problem fixed. No RV repair in town. Campground nice city park with level shaded well spaced sites. 50 Amp electric and water $17. Sweet! Will find a way back.
