For local users seeking "camping near me" in the vicinity of Manson, Iowa, Featherstone County Park, located at 1853-1873 Twin Lakes Rd, Manson, IA 50563, USA, offers a lakeside experience on the shores of Twin Lakes. With contact numbers (712) 297-7131 and +1 712-297-7131 available for inquiries, this county park provides a range of accommodation options, including cabin rentals and campsites, many of which boast direct access to the water. Based on the available reviews, Featherstone County Park presents a blend of appealing features and some considerations for potential visitors.
The environment at Featherstone County Park is predominantly defined by its location on Twin Lakes. The reviews highlight the proximity of accommodations to the water, with one visitor noting that the Walleye cabin was "right there in front of the lake" and had a "dock directly in front of this cabin." This lakefront setting offers scenic views and easy access for various lake-related activities. The campground was described as "quiet in mid-October," suggesting a peaceful atmosphere during the off-season. However, one reviewer mentioned that Twin Lakes is "very flat with very little depth variation or structure," which might be relevant for those planning to fish by boat.
Featherstone County Park offers both cabin rentals and traditional campsites. One review detailed a stay in the "Walleye cabin," describing it as "spacious and clean." The presence of a dock directly in front of this cabin is a significant amenity for those interested in fishing or simply enjoying the lake. However, it's important to note that this particular cabin, and reportedly all cabins at the park, do not have heaters, which could be a consideration for stays during cooler months. Additionally, the cabins at Featherstone County Park do not allow dogs, a crucial piece of information for pet owners seeking "camping near me."
For those opting for traditional camping, Featherstone County Park offers camper sites. A reviewer noted that "most of the camper sites are small and very close together," which could impact privacy and the overall sense of space for campers. However, some of these sites are conveniently located "right on the water," offering the coveted lakefront camping experience. Another camper mentioned that the water and electric hookups at their site were a bit far, requiring an extension for their water hose, indicating that the placement of utilities might vary between sites.
In terms of general services, Featherstone County Park provides a shower house, which was reported to be "clean" by one visitor, a positive aspect for maintaining hygiene during a camping trip. A significant feature for boating enthusiasts is the presence of a "boat ramp in the campground," offering convenient access to Twin Lakes for those wishing to bring their own boats. Fishing appears to be a popular activity, with one reviewer mentioning they "caught tons of bullhead off the dock" but had less success fishing from a boat, possibly due to the lake's structure.
The reviews do not mention specific recreational facilities beyond lake access and the boat ramp. It's unclear if the park offers amenities such as playgrounds, hiking trails, or organized activities. The focus seems to be primarily on enjoying the lake and the peaceful environment. The fact that one reviewer described it as "a good place to stay" for a county campground suggests that it meets basic expectations for a public camping facility, particularly appreciating its proximity to the water.
Currently, there is no promotional information available in the provided reviews for Featherstone County Park. Local users interested in potential discounts, seasonal rates, or any special offers should contact the park directly using the provided phone numbers: (712) 297-7131 or +1 712-297-7131. When calling, it would be beneficial to inquire about cabin availability (especially regarding the lack of heaters and the no-dog policy), campsite sizes and utility hookup locations, lake access details, and any specific regulations or recommendations for fishing on Twin Lakes.
In summary, Featherstone County Park offers a lakeside camping and cabin rental experience on Twin Lakes near Manson, Iowa, making it a relevant option for those searching for "camping near me" with water access. The park provides spacious and clean cabins (though without heaters and not pet-friendly) and campsites, some of which are directly on the water. A clean shower house and a convenient boat ramp are available for visitors. While the campsites are noted to be close together and utility hookups might be somewhat distant on some sites, the peaceful environment, especially during the off-season, and the direct lake access are significant draws. Fishing from the dock seems productive for bullhead, though boating success might be more limited due to the lake's structure. Local users are encouraged to contact Featherstone County Park directly for the most up-to-date information on availability, pricing, and any specific amenities or regulations to ensure it aligns with their camping or cabin rental needs.

Featherstone County Park Reviews
We stayed in the Walleye cabin. It was spacious and clean. The lake is right there in front of the cabin, and there is a dock directly in front of this cabin. This cabin did not have a heater, though, and none of the cabins at this park allow dogs. The campground was quiet in mid-October.The shower house was clean. Most of the camper sites are small and very close together. Some are right on the water. There is a boat ramp in the campground, which was very convenient. We caught tons of bullhead off the dock but had little luck fishing via boat. This lake is very flat with very little depth variation or structure.
Nov 01, 2024 · Dakota TaylorWe stayed here in August of 2021. For being a county campground, it's a good place to stay. I like how it's basically on the water. The sites are close together, so there is not a whole lot of privacy. Wouldn't mind the water & electric hookups to be a tad closer. Our water hose didn't reach but luckily my sister & brother-in-law got us another hose.

May 05, 2018 · Cheryl ChristianssonPlease install a handle on the boat dock. It is impossible for an old man, like me, to get out of the boat at the docj. Hadn't been for a couple of nice ladies that pulled me up, I'd probably still be there. Thank you and I'll be back. The fishing was great...
