The Big Moose Introduce
For local users exploring "camping near me" options, particularly those seeking a larger cabin for groups or families in the Gatlinburg, TN area, The Big Moose, located at 756 Yona Trail Way, Gatlinburg, TN 37738, USA, warrants careful consideration based on recent customer feedback. While the cabin may have offered a pleasant experience when newer, recent reviews paint a concerning picture regarding its current condition, maintenance, and service.
Based on the provided reviews, the environment surrounding The Big Moose, while located in the scenic Gatlinburg area, may not fully align with expectations set by older photographs. One reviewer explicitly states that the "pictures are from when the cabin was new" and that there is "not a view from the 2 porch just tall trees, that are blocking any view." This suggests that potential guests should not rely on older images when assessing the current environment and scenic appeal of the cabin. The natural surroundings are likely still characterized by the wooded landscape typical of the Gatlinburg area, but the absence of a view from at least one of the porches could be a significant disappointment for those seeking mountain vistas.
The services and features at The Big Moose have been a significant source of dissatisfaction for recent guests. One review highlights a concerning lack of responsiveness from housekeeping, noting multiple calls and a significant delay in receiving essential items like towels and sheets for the pullout sofa beds, which finally arrived late at night. This indicates potential issues with the efficiency and availability of housekeeping services. Furthermore, technical issues with amenities such as the DVD player, which was not properly hooked up and required multiple calls and visits over several days to partially resolve, raise concerns about the maintenance and functionality of in-cabin entertainment. The broken arcade game is another example of an amenity that is not being properly maintained.
The features of The Big Moose, as described by recent reviewers, present several areas of concern:
- Outdated Visual Representation: The online pictures are reportedly not representative of the cabin's current state.
- Obstructed Views: At least one porch lacks the view suggested by older images due to overgrown trees.
- Slow Housekeeping Response: Guests have experienced significant delays in receiving essential items and addressing issues.
- Missing Amenities: Lack of basic supplies like towels and sheets upon arrival.
- Malfunctioning Entertainment: Issues with the DVD player and arcade game.
- Poor Condition of Furnishings: The mattresses on the pullout sofa beds are described as "very old and worn," making them unusable. The general furniture is also noted as needing replacement.
- Maintenance Issues: A leaking hot tub with water dripping to the lower floor poses a potential safety hazard and indicates a lack of proper maintenance. Holes in the walls and disgusting carpets further contribute to the impression of a run-down property.
- Broken Amenities: A stool to the hot tub broke, exposing rusty nails, creating a safety risk, especially for children. A non-functional coffee pot was also reported.
These detailed accounts from recent guests paint a picture of a cabin that is currently facing significant challenges in terms of upkeep and service quality.
Regarding promotional information, the provided reviews do not mention any current deals or special offers. However, given the significant negative feedback concerning the cabin's condition, local users should be particularly cautious of any pricing that does not reflect the reported disrepair and lack of service. It would be prudent to inquire specifically about the current condition of the cabin, request recent photographs, and thoroughly understand the cancellation policies before making any booking. Potential guests might also want to check if the rental company has addressed the issues raised in the reviews and what steps are being taken to rectify them.
Based on the overwhelmingly negative experiences shared by recent guests, local users searching for "camping near me" in the Gatlinburg area should exercise extreme caution when considering The Big Moose. The consistent themes of disrepair, cleanliness issues, malfunctioning amenities, and slow service raise serious concerns about the quality of stay and the value for money. While the cabin may have once been a "very nice cabin" when new, its current state appears to be far from satisfactory, with multiple safety hazards reported. The rental company's response to complaints, as described in one review, was limited to an apology and a repair of a broken stool, without any offer of compensation for the significant inconveniences and substandard conditions.
In conclusion, while The Big Moose is located in the popular Gatlinburg area and may have the capacity to accommodate larger groups, recent reviews strongly suggest that local users seeking "camping near me" should be very wary of this particular cabin in its current state. The reported issues with obstructed views, slow housekeeping, malfunctioning amenities, poor condition of furniture, maintenance problems like a leaking hot tub, and safety hazards such as broken furniture with exposed rusty nails paint a concerning picture. Potential guests are strongly advised to seek recent, updated photographs of the property, inquire in detail about the current condition and maintenance status, and carefully consider the negative feedback before making a booking. Exploring alternative cabin rentals in the Gatlinburg area might be a more prudent choice to ensure a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable "camping near me" experience.

The Big Moose Reviews
New updated pictures should be posted!!!!!! The pictures are from when the cabin was new. There isn't a view from the 2 porch just tall trees , that are blocking any view. Housekeeping doesn't respond in a timely manner. There were no towels and sheets for the pullout sofa beds. We checked in and called housekeeping but had to call two more times before they finally came at 11:45 pm. The DVD wasn't hooked up because there weren't cables and one of them was broken. This also took many calls before they came to hook up but didn't hook up the DVD downstairs. We checked in on Thursday but they didn't come to hook up until Saturday afternoon. The cabin needs a thorough cleaning and some new furniture. We were unable to sleep on the sofa beds because the mattress was very old and worn. You could feel every spring and cable under you. So we slept on the sofa not on the pull out bed. The hot tub has a leak and the water drips from the first floor to down stairs. One arcade the shotgun was broken and didn't operate very well. Needs to be fixed or replaced. We made do with the cabin as it is but would not recommend staying at the BIG MOOSE cabin. I know for sure we will not. This was a very nice cabin I am sure when it was new!!!
Jun 19, 2023 · JIM BOURDon't waste your money! We were extremely displeased with the condition of this cabin. Very run down, holes in the wall, carpet was disgusting, multiple things in disrepair, coffee pot didn't work and was not what you would expect for paying as much as we did for the cabin. The stool to the hot tub broke when my 5 year old stepped on it exposing rusty nails. When I called the rental company about the issues they apologized but would not offer any money back and sent a handyman to repair the stool. We have stayed in many different cabins in the Gatlinburg area and have never seen any cabin like this in such disrepair.
Nov 03, 2022 · Josephine EdwardsThis cabin was… atrocious, to say the least. There was a thick layer of dust over everything in the cabin, the walls had holes in them, the hot tub was leaking onto the lower deck, the carpet was stained and ripped, there were cabinet doors missing in the kitchen, there was no view from the deck whatsoever, the beds were dirty and stained, there were cobwebs everywhere, and many more faults that I have not yet stated.
