Situated in a prime location near the renowned Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC), this campground offers a blend of convenience, cleanliness, and access to thrilling outdoor activities. The positive reviews from recent visitors highlight several key aspects that make The HALA Camping and Lodge a compelling choice for your next local camping getaway.
The environment surrounding The HALA Camping and Lodge is a major draw for campers. Its proximity to the Nantahala Outdoor Center signifies immediate access to the Nantahala River, a premier destination for whitewater rafting, kayaking, and other water sports. The reviews explicitly mention the incredible convenience of being able to launch directly into the river from the campground, a unique feature that sets The HALA apart for those planning river-based activities. Beyond the river, the location in Bryson City places the campground within the scenic beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, offering opportunities for hiking, exploring nearby trails, and enjoying the natural landscapes of western North Carolina.
One of the standout features consistently praised by visitors is the cleanliness and quality of the campground's facilities. The availability of "nice and clean bathrooms and showers" is a significant factor for many campers, providing a level of comfort often appreciated after a day of outdoor activities. This attention to hygiene suggests a well-maintained campground focused on providing a pleasant experience for its guests. Additionally, the presence of "nice grills and fire rings" at the campsites enhances the camping experience, allowing for enjoyable outdoor cooking and cozy campfires in the evenings. The availability of firewood for purchase adds to the convenience for campers.
The location of The HALA Camping and Lodge is undeniably a key feature, particularly for those interested in activities at the Nantahala Outdoor Center. Being so close to the NOC means easy access to their various offerings, including guided rafting trips, kayaking instruction, ziplining, and on-site dining and shopping. For local users planning to spend time at the NOC, The HALA provides an incredibly convenient basecamp, eliminating the need for lengthy commutes. The ability to take a "pit stop at our campsite for lunch while running the river" and then "seal launched right from our site back into the Nanty" as described by one reviewer, truly underscores the unparalleled river access offered by this campground.
Beyond its adventure-centric location, The HALA Camping and Lodge also offers a peaceful atmosphere, as noted by a guest who stayed midweek for a work conference. This suggests that while it's close to the action of the NOC, the campground itself maintains a sense of tranquility, allowing campers to relax and unwind after a day of activities. While one reviewer did mention some "road noise," they also noted that it was "easy to ignore watching the river float by," indicating that the serene views and sounds of the river help to mitigate any potential noise disturbances.
The positive interactions with the campground host, "wahoo," are another notable feature. Described as "awesome, kind, and genuine," the host seems to play a significant role in ensuring a positive experience for guests and keeping a "good eye on things," contributing to the overall safety and welcoming atmosphere of the campground. The HALA camping and lodge Reviews
I had a great experience at the Hala campground. Nice and clean bathrooms and showers. Nice grills and fire ring. Can’t beat the location to the Nantahala Outdoor Center. My friends and I made a pit stop at our campsite for lunch while running the river, then seal launched right from our site back into the Nanty. Can’t beat that!

Apr 10, 2025 · Gary SloanGreat time and great campsite! Only campground I know that is right on the water. Bathrooms were clean and they had plenty of firewood available for sale. Nice new charcoal grills and power and water at the sites. If you bring your own boats/rafts can float right to your campsite. Hands down nicest campground at the Nanty.
