Located at Paskenta, CA 96074, USA, Three Prong Campground provides a back-to-basics camping environment. You can reach them at (530) 934-3316 or their mobile number +1 530-934-3316 for any inquiries. Please note that based on user reviews, this campground offers a 'rough' camping experience, which may not be suitable for all types of campers. However, for those who appreciate a more natural and less developed setting, Three Prong Campground could be an ideal getaway.
Environment and Scenery:
Prepare to be captivated by the natural surroundings of Three Prong Campground. The area boasts a beautiful meadow, offering picturesque views and a tranquil atmosphere. The campground is situated in a region with abundant wildlife, including deer, bears, coyotes, and mountain lions. This makes it a fantastic location for wildlife viewing, providing opportunities to connect with nature in its rawest form. The presence of downed trees suggests a natural, forested environment, offering shade and a rustic feel.
However, potential visitors should be aware that the journey to Three Prong Campground can be challenging. Reviews indicate a 'rough' and 'steep' drive to reach the location. The roads in the area are also frequented by logging trucks and heavy equipment involved in timber maintenance. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure your vehicle is suitable for such terrain and to exercise caution while driving in the area.
Services and Amenities:
Three Prong Campground offers basic amenities, aligning with its 'rough' camping nature. There is one vault toilet located near the entrance of the campground. It is important to note that there are no trash cans provided at the site. Therefore, campers are responsible for packing out all their trash to maintain the cleanliness of this natural area. Some campsites are equipped with fire pits, allowing for campfires and cooking (subject to local regulations and fire safety guidelines).
The campground is described as 'trailer friendly' but without hookups. This means that while you can bring your trailer, you will need to be self-sufficient in terms of water, electricity, and waste disposal. The availability of 'plenty of shade' is a significant advantage, especially during warmer months, offering a comfortable camping experience.
Features and Activities:
Three Prong Campground seems to be particularly popular among quad riders. The surrounding area offers opportunities for off-road adventures, making it an exciting destination for those who enjoy exploring on ATVs. The campground also serves as a convenient base for hunters, especially during deer season. Be aware that this can lead to increased competition for camping spots during these times.
Beyond these specific activities, the campground provides a chance to immerse yourself in nature, enjoy the peace and quiet of a less developed area, and observe local wildlife. The beautiful meadow offers a serene backdrop for relaxation and contemplation.
Important Considerations and Safety:
Given the presence of mountain lions and bears in the area, it is crucial for campers to take necessary precautions for their safety and the safety of their children and pets. This includes proper food storage to avoid attracting wildlife, keeping a close watch on small children and pets, and being aware of your surroundings at all times. Familiarize yourself with local guidelines regarding wildlife encounters.
The campground is loosely maintained by the forest service. However, the reviews highlight a positive aspect: the hunters who frequent the area often contribute to keeping the campgrounds clean. This collaborative effort helps maintain the natural beauty of the site.
Promotional Information (Based on Reviews):
For local residents seeking an adventurous and authentic camping experience, Three Prong Campground offers a unique opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. If you enjoy quad riding, wildlife viewing, and a more rugged, self-sufficient camping style, this could be the perfect destination for your next weekend getaway or even a longer week-long trip. The shade provided by the natural environment makes it a comfortable option even without hookups for trailers. The beautiful meadow and the chance to observe local wildlife create memorable moments in nature.
However, it is essential to come prepared for the 'rough' conditions, including the challenging drive, the lack of trash facilities, and the need for self-sufficiency regarding water and power. Be mindful of the potential presence of logging trucks and heavy equipment on the access roads. During deer season, be prepared for higher occupancy as hunters frequent the area.
In conclusion, Three Prong Campground, while not offering luxurious amenities, provides a genuine connection with nature for those in the local area who appreciate a more primitive camping experience. Its appeal lies in its natural beauty, wildlife viewing opportunities, suitability for quad riding, and the sense of community among its users who help maintain its cleanliness. If you are looking for a 'camping near me' option that takes you off the beaten path and immerses you in the wild, Three Prong Campground might just be the adventure you've been searching for. Remember to prioritize safety regarding wildlife and come fully prepared for a rustic camping experience.

Three Prong Campground Reviews
Nice rough campground. Some fire pits available at sites. One toilet located at the entrance. Great place to go spend the weekend or the entire week and ride quads and take in the wildlife. Trailer friendly with no hook ups, but plenty of shade. Keep in mind that there are mountain lions and bears in this area. There is also no trash cans there either.
Feb 25, 2016 · Jeffrey KeiserThis ain't your tow a teardrop trailer in with your manly crossover SUV kind of campground. It's a rough, steep drive to get here. The roads up in this area are populated with logging trucks and heavy equipment maintaining the timber growth. Be prepared for competition in finding a camping spot during deer season. The campground is loosely maintained by the forest service. Where they fall short, the hunters that come up do the rest. The campgrounds are kept clean, and there are plenty of downed trees around for firewood. There is one vault toilet near the entrance to the campground. Not much else going on, but there is a beautiful meadow to look at and plenty of wildlife that comes for a visit. There are bears, coyotes, and mountain lions in the area so keep an eye on your little dogs and children.
