Tinkham Campground

Tinkham Rd, North Bend, WA 98045, USA

4.0
Great little campground with everything you need. Made a reservation online and it was super easy. Some sites are closer to others, where in eye sight of neighbors. Site #6 seemed to be a little more secluded than others. The site was backed on two sides by a larger incline, helping block the wind. Fire pit was well established and the picnic table was nice to have. A quick walk around the camp loop and you can see the stream. The road in is ~1mi of unpaved road with lots of potholes. Shouldn’t be an issue for an SUV or truck, but could see pulling a trailer to be a pain. - Alex

Tinkham Campground Introduce

Seeking a "camping near me" experience that blends rustic charm with natural beauty? Tinkham Campground, located off Tinkham Road in North Bend, Washington, offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest with convenient access to a nearby stream and a short nature trail. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground provides a generally positive experience with some factors to consider when planning your visit.

One camper described Tinkham Campground as a "great little campground with everything you need." The ease of online reservations was also highlighted, making the initial planning process straightforward. While some campsites are within closer proximity to neighbors, offering less privacy, the reviewer noted that "Site #6 seemed to be a little more secluded than others," suggesting that certain spots within the campground offer enhanced privacy. The natural topography of some sites, such as being "backed on two sides by a larger incline," can also provide benefits like wind protection, contributing to a more comfortable camping experience. The presence of a "well established" fire pit and a "nice to have" picnic table at each site adds to the convenience and enjoyment of outdoor living.

A significant natural feature of Tinkham Campground is its proximity to a stream, which is accessible via a "quick walk around the camp loop" and from several individual campsites. The soothing sounds of flowing water and the opportunity for streamside relaxation can greatly enhance the camping ambiance. Furthermore, the campground boasts a "short nature trail that leads to a wetland observation deck from the east end of the campground loop." This feature provides an opportunity for easy exploration of the local ecosystem and potential wildlife viewing, adding an educational and engaging element to your "camping near me" adventure.

However, access to Tinkham Campground requires consideration. One reviewer noted that "The road in is ~1mi of unpaved road with lots of potholes." While this might not pose a significant challenge for SUVs or trucks, it "could see pulling a trailer to be a pain." Therefore, those planning to bring trailers or vehicles with lower clearance should be prepared for a bumpy ride and exercise caution while navigating the access road. It's advisable to check current road conditions, especially during the spring when potholes may be more prevalent.

Another crucial factor to be aware of is the potential for noise from Interstate 90. One reviewer pointed out that the campground "experiences constant freeway noise from I-90, which sits on the opposite side of the valley just a few hundred yards away." While the campground offers a natural setting and quick access from the city, the proximity to a major highway means that complete tranquility might be elusive. Light sleepers or those particularly sensitive to noise should consider this when choosing Tinkham Campground for their "camping near me" experience.

Despite the unpaved access road and freeway noise, Tinkham Campground is described as "quite lovely in a rustic sense." The positive aspects include "well spaced" campsites, providing a degree of privacy for most campers. The accessibility of the river from the campground loop and several individual sites is a significant draw for nature enthusiasts. Additionally, the facility is reported to be "well maintained," suggesting that the campground management takes pride in providing a clean and functional environment for visitors.

Regarding accessibility from Interstate 90, it's noted that "the shorter access is from the West (I-90 exit for Tinkham Road is only about two miles, the Denny Creek exit is over 4 miles to access the CG)." This information is helpful for planning your route and choosing the most convenient exit, particularly considering the condition of Tinkham Road itself.

In summary, Tinkham Campground offers a "camping near me" experience characterized by its rustic charm, well-spaced campsites (with some offering more seclusion), direct access to a stream, and a short nature trail leading to a wetland observation deck. The convenience of online reservations adds to its appeal. However, potential visitors should be aware of the approximately one-mile unpaved access road with potholes, which might be challenging for trailers, and the constant freeway noise from nearby I-90. Despite these downsides, the lush forest environment, river access, and quick proximity to the city make Tinkham Campground a worthwhile consideration for those seeking a natural getaway near North Bend, Washington.
