This visit was awesome! The water was warm, lots of weeds in the flow yet no patches to walk through & the current was strong but the water is not very deep; I am 5'7" & even 25 feet from the shore was waist high. The wind gave us a chill & I advise wearing water shoes because there's lots of rocks. All other river goers & the few campers we came in contact with were friendly, dogs on leashes & no one was drinking excessively or being loud. There are restrooms, bbq pits, picnic tables, horseshoe pits (bring your own horseshoes), looked like volleyball or badminton could be played if you brought a net & equipment...and of course camping spaces for a fee, day use is free (that we could discern) Kids enjoyed themselves & now we know for future reference it's here & closer than Jones Beach. Drive safely & enjoy the beautiful scenery 😊 - Rodalev Hael

Tree of Heaven Campground Introduce

Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Yreka, California area? Tree of Heaven Campground, located in Yreka, CA 96097, USA, and reachable by phone at (530) 493-2243 or +1 530-493-2243, offers a camping experience with river access and several amenities. Based on the available online reviews, the campground has both appealing features and some considerations for visitors.

One reviewer described their visit as "awesome!" They noted that the river water was warm, with some weeds in the flow but no patches obstructing walking. They experienced a strong current but found the water not very deep, reaching waist height (for someone 5'7") even 25 feet from the shore. They mentioned a chilly wind and recommended wearing water shoes due to the presence of rocks. This reviewer also highlighted the friendly nature of other river goers and the few campers they encountered, noting that dogs were on leashes and there was no excessive drinking or loud behavior. The amenities they observed included restrooms, BBQ pits, picnic tables, horseshoe pits (with the caveat to bring your own horseshoes), and areas that seemed suitable for volleyball or badminton if one brought a net and equipment. They also confirmed the presence of camping spaces for a fee and mentioned that day use appeared to be free. The reviewer's children enjoyed themselves, and they found the location to be closer than Jones Beach for their needs. They concluded with a safety reminder for driving and encouraged enjoying the scenery.

In contrast, another reviewer had a less enthusiastic opinion, stating, "Not the best campground we've been to." They did acknowledge access to the river from a "small rafting launch," but found other river access to be "rather difficult." A significant point they raised was that "Rattlesnakes are plentiful so be mindful," indicating a potential wildlife hazard. On the positive side, they noted that the restrooms were clean (vault style), and the campgrounds were a "good size, spread out," with water available. However, they expressed a wish for more accessible river entry points without having to navigate through "a bunch of overgrowth, like a jungle." They did find the water at the launch to be nice but with a swift current.

Based on these reviews, the environment of Tree of Heaven Campground offers river access for swimming and a small rafting launch. The river itself has warm water, a strong but not overly deep current, and some weeds. The presence of rocks necessitates water shoes. The campground is situated in an area where rattlesnakes are common, so caution is advised. The campsites are described as a good size and spread out. The surrounding scenery is noted as beautiful by one reviewer.

In terms of services and features, the campground provides restrooms (vault style, reported as clean), BBQ pits, picnic tables, horseshoe pits (BYO horseshoes), and water availability at the campsites. There are designated camping spaces for a fee, and day use seems to be free. The potential for volleyball or badminton exists if visitors bring their own equipment. Access to the river is available via a small rafting launch, but other access points are described as difficult due to overgrowth.

The positive aspects that could be considered promotional include the "awesome" experience of one reviewer, the warm river water, the friendly atmosphere, the availability of amenities like restrooms and picnic tables, and the spacious campsites. The proximity to the river for swimming and rafting is also a key feature. The mention of it being closer than another location for one reviewer suggests a locational advantage for some.

However, potential drawbacks to consider based on the reviews include the abundance of rattlesnakes requiring vigilance, the difficult river access outside of the rafting launch due to overgrowth, and the strong current in the river. One reviewer's overall impression was that it was "not the best campground" they had visited.

For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Yreka area, Tree of Heaven Campground offers a riverside camping experience with some basic amenities. The warm river water and opportunities for swimming and rafting (from the launch) are attractive features. The spacious and spread-out campsites might appeal to those seeking a bit more space. However, the presence of rattlesnakes is a significant safety consideration, and the limited easy access to the river outside the launch might be a drawback for some. The cleanliness of the restrooms is a plus. If you are looking for a campground with river access and are prepared to be mindful of wildlife and potentially challenging river entry points, Tree of Heaven Campground could be an option to consider. Bringing water shoes and being cautious of rattlesnakes are advisable.

To obtain more detailed information about the campground, such as fees, specific rules regarding pets (though one reviewer noted leashed dogs), and the availability of specific services, it would be beneficial to contact Tree of Heaven Campground directly using the provided phone number. This will help you gather all the necessary information to decide if it meets your needs for a "camping near me" experience.
