Recent reviews from campers offer insights into the campground experience itself. One visitor, who was trying out their camper for the first time, highlighted the "great location" as being close to home yet feeling like a true getaway. They also noted the affordability of the campground and the kindness of the staff during check-in. Despite the campground being fully booked, their overall camping experience was positive, indicating its popularity among local campers. The only minor surprise mentioned was that the sites were not mowed for a busy weekend, suggesting that while generally well-maintained, there might be occasional minor oversights during peak times.
Another camper who had experience with other Indiana campgrounds rated Turkey Run as the better of the two. They specifically praised the cleanliness of the facilities, including the shower and bathroom areas. The friendly atmosphere among fellow campers also contributed to their positive experience. Regarding their specific site, number 22, they mentioned needing to use levelers for their camper, indicating that some sites might have slight unevenness, which is not uncommon in natural terrain. The reviewer also appreciated the quiet environment of the campground, noting the absence of traffic noise, allowing for a more peaceful and immersive natural experience.
An interesting anecdote shared by this camper involved an encounter with a raccoon at the dumpster, which was attributed to a previously left-open trash slide. This serves as a reminder to all campers to be mindful when disposing of trash to avoid attracting wildlife. However, the reviewer's reaction was calm, and the raccoon simply left after a look, suggesting that while wildlife is present, it generally keeps to itself if precautions are taken.
The overall sentiment from these reviews is that Turkey Run State Park Campground offers a clean, affordable, and enjoyable camping experience within a beautiful natural setting. The proximity to the park's trails and attractions is a significant advantage for those looking to immerse themselves in nature. The positive feedback regarding the cleanliness of the facilities and the friendly atmosphere suggests that the campground is well-managed and fosters a welcoming environment for visitors.

The affordability makes it accessible for families and individuals alike, while the location within a state park ensures access to a wide range of outdoor activities and scenic views. While one review mentioned unmowed sites during a fully booked weekend, this seems to be an isolated observation and did not significantly detract from the overall positive experience. It's always a good idea to inquire about site conditions when making a reservation, especially during peak seasons.

Turkey Run State Park Campground Reviews
Took our newly purchased “used” camper out for the first time since we purchased. Great location, close to home but far enough away. Affordable. Kind young man checked us in Friday. Campground was full. Great camping experience. Only thing that surprised me was the sites were not mowed for a fully booked weekend. Definitely will be back again.
Apr 27, 2025 · Christine AndersonWe have camped in two ind camp grounds. This was the better of those two. Everything is clean. The shower/ bathroom is very clean. Nice people camp here. Our site was number 22. we did have to use the levelers on our spot, but not much height was needed on the left side. The park is quiet. We did not have any traffic noise. I met a racoon at the back dumpster. it was just hungry since the slide to the trash was previously left open. It just gave me a look and scurried into the woods. Be aware when you dump the trash to pay attention. I would not hesitate to stay here again. the trails and area is beautiful
Apr 30, 2025 · Sharon CruseWas there to camp and enjoy nature. Instead got the experience of awe and it brought out the child in me. Trails are challenging and yet just beautiful. So, much to see and experience. Camp sites have power, but no water. You have to carry your own in your rig or fill gallon jugs, but the water is good. The shower house is a hard mist with small stalls, but still very much doable. 2 spots to dump your tanks with a tank flush hook up. Gift store is quaint. There are horse rides available of which I didn't get to par take in, but there's always next time. If you enjoy canoes there not far from the at all from the park. I'll definitely be returning.
Jul 30, 2024 · Maranda TaylorMy review probably isn't representative of the normal camper, since I went in February. However, I was shocked to see there was someone on staff, and one of the plumbed bathrooms was open and heated. I was able to get a great spot and get a large fire going to keep me warm. I will definitely be returning for more winter camping.
Feb 20, 2025 · Jess BurdenI selected a pull through site out of convenience at the campground. The sites are numbered on the electrical boxes as well as on the parent- though the pavement is very faded and hard to see. I relied on the paper map & the electric box to find it.I arrived on a weekend and it was very packed with people. During Sunday people started leaving and it was a quieter experience. The washrooms and showers were located near by and were very clean. The showers were a bit older with some mould but I had shower sandals and really didn’t care. Good water temp and pressure. There are dump sites and water sites available. At check in staff was very friendly. You pay an extra park fee to stay here on top of the camp fee but it allows you access to the park itself.Trail access is off the camp loop I stayed at which was nice. Though it does add a few miles/kms to the suspension bridge and the hikes thereafter. Also of note- the hikes are certainly not a walk in the park and more moderate to challenging in nature. Wear supportive footwear that’s as non slip as possible.Paved sites at the campground that are fairly level. It would be a decent place during the week unless crowds are your thing. Photos don’t do it justice and while there’s many sites in the wide open sun, the ones tucked into the trees are gorgeous and shaded.Would recommend and would return.
