Lake Waveland Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in Indiana, Lake Waveland, situated at 11677 IN-47, Waveland, IN 47989, USA, presents itself as a campground with lake access and some ongoing developments. You can reach them at (765) 435-2073 or their mobile number +1 765-435-2073.
Based on recent feedback, Lake Waveland appears to be a location undergoing changes, with one reviewer expressing excitement about future fishing prospects and "cool stuff" happening at the site in 2025. This suggests potential ongoing efforts to enhance the campground and its amenities.
However, it's important to consider all available feedback to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current state of Lake Waveland. One detailed review paints a less positive picture, raising concerns particularly for families with children. This review describes the campground as "rundown, dirty, and scary," suggesting a state of disrepair. Specific issues mentioned include overflowing dumpsters with metal rubble, caving shelter roofs, rotted picnic tables, a playground with only a frame and unusable equipment, and general junk and trash scattered throughout the area. The camp store is also described as abandoned and closed.
The existence of a "shower house" is questioned in this review, with an unmarked building surrounded by garbage and rusty vehicles being the only potential candidate, which the reviewer felt unsafe to inspect. Furthermore, the review recounts an incident of public urination, contributing to a sense of unease and lack of safety. The reviewer also noted the deteriorated state of what appeared to be former recreational facilities like a putt-putt course and a water slide.
In terms of the campsites themselves, the review points out a lack of labeling, parking spots, or site markings, leading to a somewhat disorganized camping experience where people camp in wooded areas without defined spaces. A significant safety concern highlighted is the presence of large rotting trees with dead branches overhanging the camping areas, prompting the reviewer to move their tents away from the woods. The reviewer also reported instances of people driving and walking through their campsite, as well as loud and disruptive behavior from other campers late into the night, with a perceived lack of DNR patrolling contributing to a feeling of unsafety.
Considering the mixed feedback, potential visitors to Lake Waveland should be aware of the contrasting experiences reported. While some anticipate improvements and highlight the lake and fishing opportunities, others describe a campground in significant disrepair with safety and cleanliness concerns. It would be prudent for prospective campers to directly contact Lake Waveland at the provided phone numbers to inquire about the current conditions, ongoing improvements, and any relevant policies, such as fees for extra occupants or vehicles, which were also points of concern in one review.
As a local user searching for "camping near me," Lake Waveland offers a lakeside setting, which can be appealing. The potential for future enhancements, as suggested by one review, could make it a more attractive destination. However, the detailed negative review raises significant issues regarding the campground's current state of maintenance, safety, and management. Therefore, it is recommended to gather the most up-to-date information directly from the campground before making a decision.
In summary, Lake Waveland offers the following based on the provided information:
- Location near Waveland, Indiana, providing a "camping near me" option for local users.
- Access to a lake, potentially offering fishing and other water-related activities.
- Primitive camping in wooded areas.
- Reports of ongoing developments and anticipated improvements, particularly for fishing in 2025.
- Concerns raised by a recent reviewer regarding the campground's rundown condition, cleanliness, safety, and lack of amenities.
- Allegations of unclear pricing policies, including charges for extra occupants and vehicles.
- Reports of a dilapidated playground, abandoned camp store, and questionable shower facilities.
- Safety concerns related to rotting trees, lack of site markings, and disruptive behavior from other campers.
Given the conflicting perspectives, it is strongly advised to contact Lake Waveland directly to obtain the most current information about the campground's environment, services, and any ongoing improvements before planning a visit. This will help local users make an informed decision based on their individual needs and expectations for a camping experience.

Lake Waveland Reviews
Places is amazing..They're starting to do some really cool stuff there!!! 2025 is gonna be great for this place to Fish!!!Just look!!!!Amazing times!!!!
May 02, 2025 · That Rally Car GuyFamilies with kids, BEWARE! How this place is still open and has 84% positive reviews is beyond me. Most of these reviews must be from people who are related to the owners or are rough locals who don’t care about a clean campground and just want to party. From the moment my family and I pulled in we had a bad experience. Rough looking people running the check-in. We only wanted one site with two tents and they charged us double the price because we had 8 people and they only allow 6 people per site. That is discrimination against families with more than 4 kids. They also charge you a $7 car fee on top of the camping fee fyi. Everything about the campground is rundown, dirty, and scary. It looks abandoned and like it should’ve closed down 20 years ago. This was probably a really neat place in the 90s and it’s sad to see how it has just been left to rot. Huge dumpsters overflowing with metal rubble, the shelter roofs are caving in, picnic tables are rotted, the playground had no swings, just the frame, monkey bars were old, rusted and falling over, junk and trash all over in piles, the camp store is abandoned and closed. We never did see a “shower house,” there was a building unmarked with tons of garbage and old rusty vehicles next to it, but it was unmarked and we were too scared to even check it out. We saw a man with a group of people at a shelter, standing in the grass and peeing in broad daylight. This is not the place for families with children. It seems to be a place for the drugged out locals to get together and party who don’t care about it not being clean and having no amenities. At one time it looks as if they had a small putt putt course and a water slide for the lake, but that is now rusted and falling apart. The campsites themselves are not labeled. No parking spots or site markings. People just drive in the grass to a wooded area and camp wherever. One of our biggest concerns are all of the huge rotting trees with big dead branches hanging over where we were camping and the kids were playing. We had to move all of our tents out of the woods because we were scared of a big limb breaking off and falling at any time. We had people driving and walking through where we were camping which is concerning and unsafe. We had had questionable characters driving by, yelling out and being loud. People camping next to us had cars coming and going all night, they were playing loud music, and partying well past 1:30 in the morning. There is no DNR patrolling this place so there is definitely a sense of unease. My family and I did not feel safe at all and we will not be returning.
Jul 14, 2024 · Abigail AckermannVery large area. Lots of spaces. Shower house was clean. Vault toilets are ok. The reason for the 4 star vs. 5 is that the fire ring was full of ash and burnt cans.
May 16, 2024 · Ann WarnerWe really enjoyed our stay here. The grounds are kept up well. There are many great primitive and rv camp sites. Lots of relaxing spots for picnics. The beach/sand area is kept clean. The main bath house by rv sites need some updating as well as the kids play areas. Quite an issue w wasps on most buildings/shelters but bugs are expected, so just be aware. Definitely will be coming back. Great location.
Jul 18, 2021 · Jennifer DavenportLake Waveland is on a huge property with a place for fishing and a separate area with a dock. There are plenty of restrooms, showers, seating areas, play grounds, store, beach, parking and campgrounds for RVs, campers and trailers. This is an excellent spot.
