Turkey Run Canoe & Camping Introduce
For those in search of "camping near me" that combines convenient access to natural attractions with on-site recreational activities, Turkey Run Canoe & Camping in Bloomingdale, Indiana, presents a compelling option. Located at 870 IN-47, Bloomingdale, IN 47832, USA, this campground has garnered positive feedback, particularly for its proximity to Turkey Run State Park and its enjoyable float trips. While some aspects, such as the bathhouse, have received less favorable reviews, the overall experience seems to be a positive one for many campers, offering a blend of adventure and convenience.
One of the primary advantages of Turkey Run Canoe & Camping is its "perfect" location for accessing Turkey Run State Park. This renowned state park is known for its stunning natural beauty, including deep sandstone gorges, hemlock-lined ravines, and scenic hiking trails. Staying at this campground provides a convenient basecamp for exploring the park's numerous attractions, making it an ideal choice for nature enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers looking to immerse themselves in the area's natural wonders. The close proximity eliminates the need for long drives, allowing visitors to maximize their time enjoying the park.
A significant feature of Turkey Run Canoe & Camping is the availability of float trips directly through the campground. This offers a unique and enjoyable recreational activity for families and individuals alike. One reviewer specifically mentioned the 3-hour float trip as being "perfect" for their family. The option to pay for an extra tube to carry a cooler with drinks and lunch adds to the convenience and enjoyment of the river adventure, allowing for a leisurely and refreshing experience on the water. The fact that the float trip runs through the campground adds to the ease of access and eliminates the need for separate transportation arrangements.
In terms of campsite amenities, the campground offers electric hookups, which is a significant convenience for those traveling with campers or RVs, allowing them to power appliances and electronic devices. However, it's important to note that water hookups were not available at least at some sites, as mentioned by one reviewer. This suggests that campers should come prepared with a full water tank if they plan to use their onboard facilities for showers and toilet use. This information is crucial for ensuring a comfortable and self-sufficient stay.
The cleanliness of the grounds is another aspect that received positive feedback, with one reviewer noting that the grounds were "kept very clean and tidy." This contributes to a more pleasant camping environment and suggests that the management prioritizes maintaining the overall appearance and hygiene of the campground. The reviewer also appreciated the quiet atmosphere, noting that other campers were not engaged in loud or disruptive behavior, which is conducive to a relaxing stay.
The general store on-site is highlighted as being "very helpful." General stores at campgrounds often provide essential supplies, snacks, and other conveniences that can enhance the camping experience. The presence of a helpful store can be particularly valuable for campers who may have forgotten certain items or who wish to purchase local goods or souvenirs. Additionally, the mention of an "ice cream parlor so to speak inside the general store" adds a delightful touch, offering a sweet treat option for guests, especially enjoyable during warmer weather.
For those planning to have campfires, Turkey Run Canoe & Camping offers firewood for purchase on-site. This eliminates the need to source firewood elsewhere and transport it to the campground, adding to the convenience for campers who enjoy the ambiance and warmth of a campfire for cooking or relaxation.
While the majority of the staff is described as "very kind," one reviewer did mention an instance where a staff member exhibited "a decent amount of attitude" when their group had questions about the float trip. It's important to acknowledge this feedback, as staff interactions can significantly impact the overall guest experience. However, the positive comments about the kindness of the majority of the staff suggest that this may have been an isolated incident.
One of the more significant drawbacks mentioned in the reviews is the condition of the bathhouse. One reviewer rated it as "fairly low" in terms of cleanliness, suggesting that this is an area where the campground could potentially improve. Another reviewer specifically mentioned their dislike for the "showers with the pull string" and noted that the "pooper stalls" in the toilets were too small. These comments indicate that the bathhouse facilities may not meet the expectations of all campers in terms of comfort and hygiene. Therefore, as suggested by one reviewer, campers traveling with their own water tanks might prefer to utilize their onboard facilities for showering and toilet use to avoid potential dissatisfaction with the communal bathhouse.
Despite the concerns raised about the bathhouse, the overall sentiment in the reviews suggests that many visitors have an enjoyable experience at Turkey Run Canoe & Camping, primarily due to its prime location near Turkey Run State Park and the fun float trips offered. The clean grounds, the helpful general store, and the availability of electric hookups and on-site firewood are also positive aspects. The potential for a quieter camping environment is an added bonus for those seeking a peaceful retreat.
The provided information does not include any specific promotional offers or discounts for Turkey Run Canoe & Camping. To inquire about current rates, seasonal specials, or any packages that might include the float trip or other amenities, it is best to contact the campground directly at (765) 597-2029 or their mobile number, +1 765-597-2029. Direct communication will provide the most accurate and up-to-date information for potential campers looking to plan their stay.
In conclusion, Turkey Run Canoe & Camping offers a strategically located campground for exploring the natural beauty of Turkey Run State Park, with the added bonus of enjoyable float trips directly accessible from the grounds. While the cleanliness and comfort of the bathhouse appear to be areas of concern for some visitors, the clean grounds, helpful general store, availability of electric hookups, and on-site firewood contribute to a convenient camping experience. For families and outdoor enthusiasts looking for "camping near me" that combines park access with river adventures, Turkey Run Canoe & Camping is a worthwhile consideration. However, potential guests should be aware of the feedback regarding the bathhouse and plan accordingly. Contacting the campground directly for the latest information on amenities, rates, and any special offers is recommended.

Turkey Run Canoe & Camping Reviews
Hey there! Turkey Run Canoe & Camping was a great place for our family to pull our camper to. The location to the park is perfect! We did the float trip through the campground and it was a blast as well. We did the 3 hour float which was perfect for our family. You can pay for an extra tube and take a cooler with drinks and lunch if you like. We had electric hook up, but no water hookup. This worked fine for us for the time we were there. The bathhouse was less than desirable. We have been to many campground with various bathhouse cleanliness. Unfortunately, I would rate this one as fairly low. I would recommend taking your camper with the water tank full and use as needed for showers and toilet use. The rest of the campground was good. The general store is very helpful. The majority of the staff is very kind. We did have one staff member seem to give a decent amount of attitude when our group was confused on a few things regarding the float trip, but otherwise it was good. They have firewood on site for purchase as well as a little ice cream parlor so to speak inside the general store. We will likely return to this campground in the future! Enjoy your time in the Turkey Run State Park area.
Jul 25, 2024 · Ashley SchneiderIt was a nice weekend stay and our first time trying this location. The grounds were kept very clean and tidy. the other people weren't having loud or crazy parties going on, which was nice. It's funny; it seemed like all the other campers enjoyed sleeping in because i woke up at 8AM and stepped out of the camper and everyone else looked to still be sleeping. I wasn't a fan of the showers with the pull string but i understand why they use them. On the other hand, the pooper stalls are way to small, and I am not a big guy, but when I sit on the throne and my feet hang out of the stall door (Houston, we have a problem), all in all we enjoyed our stay and may even come back sometime. Thank you for a great time.
Sep 16, 2024 · johnnyraesThe staff was amazing. All very friendly and willing to help. If you have not had an opportunity to go tubing or to take a kayak down Sugar Creek thru the beautiful Turkey Run State Park, you are truly missing out! It was so beautiful that I had to remind myself that I was in Indiana. It is a must-see! Beautiful, safe, clean, and fun for all ages! I'm so thankful that i was able to make this trip! I only wish I would have taken more pictures!
Jun 17, 2024 · B-riAs someone who has spent their whole live going to Turkey Run it's amazing it took me all these years to discover this place. It is way better than camping at Turkey Run and best of all they offer a better tubing experience than Sugar Valley. For $25 per day you can go as many times as you want and if you rent a site you get 10% off. That means have as much as you would like to drink and they take you home nobody has to DD it's an awesome experience. And it's huge, my takeaway is on your first trip walk the whole place and see the different site options. There are some that are really tucked away if you like the primitive feel there are electric sites that have that same feel backed up to wooded areas. Also the best camp store I've ever went to, they clean the bathrooms everyday, it was amazing.
Jun 12, 2024 · William BurdineThe camping experience was fun, we went to the state park near by and went walking and ride horses. But i will say the camping place was fine. The restrooms were not good at all there is only 3 stalls and 3 showers for the whole campground. The showers were flooded and packed, you have to hold a string while showering. Ive been to better campgrounds.
